Did you work in a team?
Solo project

Was the resolution a challenge?
Certainly. It's my first time dealing with such resolution. I had to cut down on some gameplay features and reduce the tile size to improve visual clarity and overview of the level. It helps that what normally would be considered programmer's art, in 64x64 environment is a viable artistic choice.

What did you learn?
It's my first jam experience and the most complete game I've ever did. I prefer to work on gameplay systems rather than actual games, so this was an interesting change of pace. The resolution restriction was also great for letting me quickly prototype and modify assets according to my needs.

I like the puzzle mechanics. maybe the game feel could be improved a bit.good luck!

Solid entry, the puzzles did feel very trial and error mainly because you would move a box and it would hit a circle and also the beams and circles were at times out of the FOV of the player so there was alot of estimating involved, having said that there was no frustating moments. I think the player should also move quicker but decent entry overall.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. I agree with most of those. I even had to reduce the tile size from 9x9 to 7x7 to be able to see more on the screen and it still wasn't enough. I underestimated the limitation of the resolution but it was too late in the project so I had to roll with it :)

Really neat concept and I enjoyed playing with the beams. The way you rendered the laser was great. Only thing I would change was the controls (at least on web version) seemed just a bit laggy or delayed. Overall fantastic experience - great work!

Very clever puzzle game. I have no complaints except that I think a lot of the solutions lent themselves to trial-and-error. Perhaps having a move limit would help make the game more challenging.

Very nice puzzle, I love the art of laser ray. I wish the movements of the robot/machine were a bit smoother though.
Good job on making all that levels, they are quite interesting to solve indeed.

Really cool and simple puzzle game!

I played this game on stream, the vod is up at http://bit.ly/bean-stream

Fun and interesting gameplay.  Graphics are pretty simple and there are some "blurry" issues, but I'm sure that had a lot to do with time constraints.  Well done for a solo project!

Wow these mechanics are technically very impressive to me for a Jam :D  I admit the solutions were mainly guess work, especially the last one was so chaotic my brain switched off ^^ haha. Only critique would be the robot moves a little slow, but its a minor point otherwise I didn't have any issues at all! well done on your first Jam really fun! :)

Have you played in Firefox maybe? The game has some performance issues on Firefox and feels much more sluggish there.

I am rewriting the game from scratch, after the rating process I'll release a patched version.

Thats a great idea! :D, I played in OperaGX, it wasn't even a problem really, just like a very very minor preference thing to move a fraction faster ^^ I can't complain though my game is literally about moving a really slow slug :')

Developer(+1)

Hmm, Opera is Chromium based, so should be okay.

Congratulations on making this game !

I've played your game during a live that you can watch here :

The live is timestamped so you can go directly to your game.

I hope the feedback and live reactions will be useful to you. Keep it up !

Your first jam and you right-sized the project, it seems. It feels like it completely conveys what your were going for and is fun, to boot.

Aside fom the controls it was really great! I really like puzzle games and this was really good.

Really nice puzzle game! Loved the music. The controls are a bit weird but overall really nice game!

Controls aside, this is  a great puzzle game. Loved the challenge, and a great amount of content for a jam, good job!

Yeah the control was a bit annoying when you have to hold down before it starts going again (I assume this is in JS and you're just checking "keydown"? (You have to keep track of up and down yourself rather than only checking that event directly, because it behaves like you're typing and that's not ideal).

Would have been nice to know my level progress to know how far I had gotten.

It's a solid game though. Very easy to learn and play and the difficulty ramp and new challenges is well balanced. Nice job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Actually, it's in Dart, but crosscompiled to JS and I was using the keypress event. I know how to change it for the better. Control and performance is something I intend to fix after the rating period is over.

Cool game. Controls feel a little clunky. Maybe I was expecting to hold to move instead of release the button.

Nice little puzzle game!

Developer

I just found out the game may be laggy in Firefox. If you encounter such issues, please try running it in Chrome.

Submitted

Really deep and compelling puzzle game considering the screen resolution. The inputs seem a bit clunky, but it was fun nonetheless. Great job and congrats on finishing the jam! :)

Very good!

It's a cool concept, and a solid puzzle game. I enjoyed it.

Wish controlling the tank and moving the objects were a bit less of a hassle though, found the control inputs rather finicky at times.

Developer

I just learned the game is laggy on Firefox compared to Chrome. The input still has room for improvement but it's much smoother on Chrome. Out of curiosity, which browser did you use?

Submitted

I did in fact use Firefox, so that would explain it.
