Did you work in a team?
There were 2 of us. Programmer/Artist and Story/Writing. It was fun to discuss ideas!

Was the resolution a challenge?
Trying to crap all the info onto the cards without it being too confusing.

What did you learn?
Well as always I try something new that I THINK will be easy, then it turns out to be far from easy! I'd like to say I learned something but I'm too stubborn and will continue making this mistake! :)

Nice game but complex mechanics to grasp… also the lack of feedback when using cards makes it difficult to understand what’s going on. A couple of times I thought the game was stuck but it was me now having a clue on how to proceed forward. Once you get into it, the game plays quite well. Rough at the edges, but a nice entry.

I'm sorry, but there's a lot of issues. Firstly, there's no music or sound effects. Secondly, the game doesn't save progress. That wouldn't be such a big issue if there wasn't the third one - the game often gets bugged and the player can't continue and must restart it (without saved progress). Fourthly, the card game is interesting, but it's really hard to understand it (I haven't fully understood how it exactly works yet) and it seems to me that I can't lose. It would be good to avoid those issues. The game concept is good.

Developer

There IS music and sound effects... Not everything has a sound effect but they're definitely there.

I didn't have enough free time to implement saving, and tbh if you get it then it doesn't take long to complete. So it also boiled down to the utility of a save feature which in this state wasn't much. The stalemate bug exacerbates this though, which is unfortunate, as I also didn't expect that to be so common.

I am continuing work on the game, so I can at least promise you that the next release will be a lot better, haha!

I really enjoyed the artwork, but I was a bit confused about the gameplay. The story was cool too!

Pretty cool game! It took me a little while to figure out how it worked, but I enjoyed it once I figured it out. I definitely think a little bit of feedback on what you're doing would go a long way. Nice job overall though!

Nice card game, there is the problem of the stalemate that stops completle the game, it should either be a draw or the person with the most points wins.

Neat concept. The most obvious complaints I had (no card preview in deck builder, lack of feedback) are almost certainly things that you didn't have time to do. Each of the three times I tried it, I got stuck at a stalemate (I guess I think about at the same level as your AI). Some sort of mechanic where you lose one HP if you attack and do no damage might be an easy way to fix the issue, or just some way to forfeit a match.

Certainly an ambitiously-scoped game. I'm impressed by how much you managed to get done in the time.

Developer

Thank you!

I hope to have a good solution to stalemates once the proper cards are implemented. It seems to be the most common issue!

very difficult to understand when first time playing it. but overall, this is good game.

Congratulations on making this game !

I've played your game during a live that you can watch here :

The live is timestamped so you can go directly to your game.

I hope the feedback and live reactions will be useful to you. Keep it up !

Thank you for playing!

Yeah, you got there in the end with the combat. To attack was just click the card. There was meant to be animations for it but never happened! Also yes, I forgot to mention red is ATK points and green is DEF points. And you lost at a stalemate, this is just a condition that didn't happen a lot in testing and so the need for another resolution there didn't seem immediate.

But yes it was definitely helpful to see you play it! :)

Happy to help !
Stalemate ?? He has very low on HP and I had everything left 😎. I should have won. 😤
Great game anyway, I would to play a more advanced version !

The visual design on this game is really good and the combination with the music gives it a really good feeling. Congrats Jack. I have the same problem of thinking things will be simpler than they are. This time I budgeted time for it :D

Thank you! I didn't actually finish the world map, and even the battle background is an old one that doesn't quite match theme! What I usually do is draw a bunch of things with whatever colors look good, then try and boil them down into a limited palette, which would have looked cleaner, but yeah.... Darn clocks moving! :P

I made it to the end when you fight the CEO, unless it is a bug? :') I played twice to check, and it happened both times so I'm guessing that was the end.

I think I noticed the cards you win relate to the encounters, starts off hope joy and memories but ends up violence and hate, which are worryingly stronger than love and life ,':/ I hope the ending will include courage and bravery or something to counter that ^^

I was enjoying the strategy until I found an exploit to always win, which I used on the nun for not giving me any money >:) I love the track at the start too! Great game :)

Developer(+1)

Yeah the CEO is the end. What made it feel buggy? It should have some final text then take you back to the menu.

And yes the cards are rewards to help you beat the following encounters. Not amazingly balanced as originally the idea was to have multiple paths that have unique cards so that you'd have to play multiple times to collect them all. And actually my team mate designed a bunch of different cards that are akin to actions rather than emotions, and under that system aspects would be what elements are now but it allows for a lot more cards without being confusing. There's even "spells" designed that are like single turn buffs. It was all just too much to implement on time! But post-jam I'll try and fix all this! :P

There's definitely exploits, haha!

Thanks for playing!

Oh I never got the final text after beating the CEO ,':/ both times it blinked like a the text screen came up for 1 frame, then just stayed on the card screen. Hope that helps :)

I'm not sure how to play this game. I deploy my cards, then I try clicking on my cards, there's an animation of scrolling up, after few clicks, enemy card flickers, then it disappears. But I keep clicking on my other cards and it does nothing.

Developer

Probably because the card ATK doesn't best the opponent DEF, keep in mind that the centre card adds a bonus if it matches the attacking or defending cards. I was really busy during the jam so sadly I couldn't flesh this out properly. I've also seen someone get into a stalemate where there's no longer any playable cards, so yeeeeah.... Borked! :( Thanks for playing though. :)
