Binding the buttons of my gamepad was somewhat tedious and the first time not only did I map the actions fairly badly, I also assumed that the movement would work by default (big mistake!).
So at first it was somewhat difficult to land a hit, not being able to move apart from flying up into bat mode (without any flight control) and jumping. The second time the hero had a party member (I think it was) we got deadlock pretty hard...
Once I restarted and mapped *all* inputs for the gamepad, it worked much better. Fortunately I didn't have to begin the story all over, too...
After her saying "Alt F4" there should have been some sort of regular exit option, though. I just seemed like the game was stuck (which it probably was, intentionally)...
that is incredible, amazing you 4 did this in just the 10 day challenge, very cool well done all around.
Best game is best.
Just awesome !
The controls at first were frustrating but I'm glad you added the ability to change the bindings, I'm guessing you were going for more gamepad then keyboard and mouse with the initial design. The art and animations were amazing, along with the music it made me feel back in the arcade. Great job and well done!
Amazing art and sound design! Love how it breaks the 4th wall and how the story was written. Controls were really responsive so it was easy to get used to. Great job!
An absolute banger!
I'm a huge sucker for boss fights, so this was fantastic to play!
Although I might've made it harder for me at the beginning since I kept avoiding falling rocks, thinking they would damage me ('o_o)
the visuals are great, I loved how the characters portraits move their mouth when talking, really shows how well this was made :)
the story is quite funny and interesting with great pacing between rounds, the game knows when to have conversations and when to hold it off.
Great sounds and music, never felt annoying or repetitive.
The characters are excellent being a parody of the hero group and vampire villain that we see in lots of anime and games, although the wizard is a bit too strong, it's like someone pulled a frickin machine gun to a sword fight lol.
The only criticism I have is the difficulty, and the drain blood ability:
The difficulty was a bit too hard even from the first fight, the hero is so tanky, and my health is so low and can get wrecked real quick, thankfully you added the assist option in the game to increase the player damage which really helped (although that option only shows up in the options main menu and not in the pause options menu).
The drain blood ability (which I suppose is added to make the game easier) has a big problem, it's so weak, the drain blood is useless, it regenerates so little health and can only be used if you killed someone, at first I thought it was something like a leech ability where you can use it to deal damage and get some health back with a cool down like the bat ability (I thought that because of its circle icon/bar at the top next to the bat ability icon/bar), I would love to see a buff for the ability that would make it a lot nicer to work with.
But away from the negative side, this game is just perfect (minus those two criticisms that I just mentioned), it gets everything right, and if I'd give it a rating it would be 5, huge props to the dev team, they did a great job on this game!
Really great job, well done! :) I loved all of it, so I gave 5 for all categories, congratulations! :)
However, I would like to point out some things that I observed:
All aside, really impressive game, keep on the good work! :)
just wow...
Absolute gold! 5* in all categories. You can play this game to prepare for Elden Ring...
There was just one tiny thing that I noticed. When Rain puts his sword above his head to ready his forward chop, you can also get hit before the chopping animation takes place.
First go, I couldn't even get through the first fight, I tried half a dozen times. At first I couldn't even figure out how to fight - even after I'd figured out I was the vampire!. I appreciate you went to the trouble of providing a key binding menu but I had no way of knowing that when I was dropped into a fight, and only found out when I pressed escape to try to quit the game. And after seeing the key bindings I kept trying to drain blood to gain health but nothing happened. I saw from some of the comments that there was a difficulty slider so I had a look and I put the player damage all the way up... and one shotted the guy in the first fight! Maybe could use a second pass on the game balance.
I liked the story concept, that was a cute twist. I did find the font quite hard to read though.
The graphics were very cute, obviously very polished but for me I'd have preferred a little more work on the new player experience (especially for a game jam, where people might only play once before moving on to one of the other 900+ games!). Being able to rebind keys is nice but I'd have been just as happy knowing what the keys were (even if it was just in the description on the page) and how to use the special abilities.
Mouse support would be nice, just for the menus - or at least put the back button higher up on the keybind page because opening it up just to find out what the keybinds were then having to go all the way down and right to get out of it was a bit of a chore.
This is one of the best games that was submitted hands down. I really enjoyed it. Though on the lowest setting the game was really difficult. I was also playing on the controller and there were issues with a few mechanics. I couldn't move up or down as a bat. I also didn't know what blood drain did for the longest time because hahaha I couldn't get past the first level. Really really good. Amazing you guys did this in 10 days!
Wow!
Great work all around. Incredible presentation, a fun concept, and some surprisingly solid gameplay to go with it– the bat-form dodging in particular was fun to play around with. Having your opponent slowly progress out of sheer willpower was a fun nod to the theme, and there was no attack that I felt truly hurt gameplay or felt impossible to counter or prepare for.
Getting a full narrative in there, let alone a good one, is no small feat either. I liked the back and forth dialogue a lot, which surprised me– the moment it got self-aware, I honestly eye-rolled with a “here we go again…” but the story didn’t go overboard with it. I think the character designs
I shouldn’t be surprised but, incredible work as always!
5 stars all the way!
5 stars all the way!
Wow. What a great game. It looks sooo polished. It was super fun to play. A little bit hard . But with the "Easy" mode through the Menu no problem. :)
Very good entry.
Wouldn't suprise me if it get's the first place of the jam.
Awesome game! Great art and fun to play. Definitely going to check out your other work!
Absolutely Amazing! Extremely polished, super fun to play. Also, I HATE WALTER! Lol.
This is an awesome and incredibly polished game! I love it!
The art is amazing! The game play is rly smooth, i love the abilities!
This game is incredible. The level of polish, the clean gorgeous sprite work, the story, variety of attacks, and sheer amount of content. That's why you're my rival!
