Description
All tracks were composed between 6/1/21 and 6/4/21 in Musescore 3. Essentially- my vision for the game was for it to be a light-hearted Game Boy style RPG (a la Mother 3)- that eventually turns dark towards the end. The two characters, here simply named Red and Blue, start separate from each other, but then eventually have to team up to take down whatever big bad thing is threatening them. Hope you enjoy it!

Theme

Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
It brings the two different characters displayed in the picture (Red and Blue) together to defeat a similar foe. It also uses similar melodies over the songs to evoke a feeling of nostalgia (i.e. We Did It!). Certainly a Journey to Remember!

Love the opening fanfare, very classic-Disney. I really enjoyed Red and Blues' themes (which were very different). Everything is very melodic; I especially appreciated the occasional minor key when major was expected. Overall, this is exactly what I would expect to hear given your description of the game. Beautiful!

Oooh, polyrhythms out of the gate? I'm sold!  In seriousness, your approach is so charming, and you were able to achieve quite an array of different styles and tracks with MuseScore. Bonus points for that alone!  "We Did It!" is so dang perfect.  Great choices all around for that one.

Developer

Appreciate it- and Musescore has definitely become a more viable tool for this type of stuff over the years!!

Wow!! The boss battle (ahhh) has so much energy! (Kind of like the trumpet haha) And I really like the attention you've put into making so may different tracks for different parts of the game. A lot of nice moods.

Developer

Haha glad you like the boss battle!!

Very nice soundtrack. It really achieves thta RPG vibe. And I noticed thta Pokemon 3 gen trumpets in the final boss theme hahaha. Good work

Developer

Yeah haha I definitely use a lot of GBA sounds- I don’t know why but I really like the limitations and how things sound on the GBA!

very pleasant soundtrack. I like the return of theme in final track "we did it".
only thing: the "trumpet" (?) sound in final boss battle doens't sound very nice... short notes are problably limit for midi sound of trumpet, maybe another instrument would be better?
It's my only complain, overall it's very good work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the compliments- and definitely in the future I’ll look into your suggestion!

Big fan of the flutes and handheld rpg vibes. Well done!

Developer

Going for the handheld vibe exactly- glad you liked it!

I dunno if it's imagined, but music for handheld games has a distinct feel to me haha

Absolutely perfect. The theme, the instrumental choice, the use of chords, ... From the first music, we greatly appreciate the evolution, the breaks, the exposures of the main melody: we know immediately that the composer knows what he does. It's cute, full of good vibes, it's full of details, with those sounds from the 80s and 90s: pure happiness developed into 3 quality pieces. If a game had such music, it would provide players with a wonderful journey, just through its OST. It's dynamic, positive, rich and varied, while offering an interesting melodic exploitation.

Developer

I appreciate that a lot- it means so much to me!

I really enjoyed the Earthbound vibe in these tracks! Great work!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much- Earthbound is probably my biggest inspiration (either that or Mother 3) so I appreciate that a lot!!

"They Meet At Last" ,_, I love musical journeys when you reach this emotional point in a story. Without a doubt my favorite in the OST and overall really great composing! Fantastic work <3

I appreciate it a lot! <3

Good music with nice melodies and simple but I think effective arrangements.

Although it could really use some mixing. There are frequency clashing here and there, and leads are generally too loud :( (especially in the first track).

Also one note which can be dismissed as a preference, but maybe there's too much leads for an OST? Melodies kinda blur together when you hear them non-stop. It doesn't make any individual track worse, but just a thought to consider when thinking in OST format.

I 100% agree- I come from I guess what you could call a “classical” background- so the tech side of things is something I definitely need to work on going forward! Also with the melodies- that was pretty much a product of me rushing out tracks and wanting to submit a specific number of tracks- should definitely spend more time perfecting tracks next time!

Blue Theme is heartwarming! I think it's the best track :) Also the last track reminds me of Stardew Valley and it sounds comfy. I like that the soundtrack is not overwhelming. Good job!

Developer

Love to hear that it reminds you of Stardew- that game has a great soundtrack! I appreciate the comment! <3
