Amazing Recreation. The Graphics are stunning -5 for the small bugs, but other than that, best game I've played.

95/100

(1 edit) (+2)

I played it for youtube, it's surprisingly good! Looks stunning, original levels, and plays great!

I did have some issues with weapon swap plus the strange "player two" movement keys when using mouse

(+2)

nice video!

couple of "answers": 16 colors (yes), blue rectangle with a red middle *is* a button :], weapon wheel can be summoned using middle mouse click

(+2)

When I saw this while looking for games I assumed it was going to be a sidescroller or a top-down shooter, the fact that you actually translated so much of the gameplay so seamlessly blows my mind. Props! This is incredibly impressive stuff!!

Feature suggestion: when the standalone files are run on a system where PICO-8 is also installed, it uses the control settings from PICO-8. On my system, they're bound to WASD + J and L. I bet many others also use WASD. Is it possible to add a third controls layout where player 1 d-pad corresponds to strafing, not turning, so using the keyboard and mouse in such conditions becomes much easier?

good point - will look if possible

(+2)

Don't know if you're interested in bug report, but I was replaying some levels on higher difficulty today, and got a crash as the last level was loading. Screenshot here:

(1 edit) (+1)

always interested in bug reports!

what was the sequence?

  • ctrl-r the game?
  • launch from menu?
  • launch from previous level?

Launched into "Halls of Eternal Pain", selected 'Hurt Me Plenty', completed that level, and the game auto-launched into 'Sanctum of Torment'. I may have been clicking impatiently while it was loading :) Don't know if that would have had any effect.

thanks - will try to repro

Fixed in 1.2

Woohoo!

92.5 of 100 Points! -4 points cuz’ sometimes I can see trough the walls and -3.5 points cuz’ it’s starting too hard...

92/100 Points: very great game

(+2)

that's kinda pog ngl

it is just the first room right? or am i missing something. Either way, this is by far the most impresive Pico-8 project Ive ever seen! game and others!

(1 edit) (+1)

I think my problem is I dont understand how to open door. can you explain please?

(+1)

i'm impressed beyond words at this and don't have any idea how to convey my immense satisfaction

i've played some great pico-8 games before but this is just insane

(+3)

It won't open on my mac :(

Same problem

exquisitely satisfying

Wow. So smooth and fast and fun. Thank you.

(+1)

Fist/punch is extremely strong

And that's a good thing :P

I literally don't know how you were able to do this in PICO-8, let alone make it incredibly satisfying to play, but goddamn color me impressed!

This game is amazing. That last boss was really hard tho

(+2)

Loved that you chose a subset of monsters and weapons. It seems they were chosen to differentiate encounters in the most meaningful ways. Excellent sense of progression. Would greatly enjoy playing an original adventure in this engine in the future, if you decide to use it again. Congrats on this excellent release!

(+1)

Thanks! And yes, given the limited sprite space & time, we had to pick "interesting" monsters, glad you liked the cast!

so i opened this and my spotify started playing rip and tear, yes.

Mind-blowing achievement! How is this even possible?

AMAZING game I love it, it stays true to the original yet staying slightly deferent feel to it makes for a whole new experience

Wow, love this game, even this game could played on mobile device to

im playing on my usb snes controller and im still having fun

10/10 also the name is kinda funny (:

(+1)

Incredible, Its really fun and the graphics are amazing. Its really impressive yall fit this much into a pico8 cart!!

(+1)

Awesome. It's amazing seeing a fangame like this, based on OG Doom, runs so amazing on a software which simulates 80's hardware limitations. You guys are geniuses!!

Amazing, very good job 😍

(1 edit)

wow really cool! i tried playing on my ps3 controller, worked, and it was so cool!, i little hard to control though. edit: ive been playing so much it is so fun

this game is op its just like doom an dits epc

Ok, this was really cool. Though I have to admit, I was aching for a chaingun after a while.

you can switch weapons (middle mouse or P).

You mean no more ammo?

Hi, I figured out how to change weapons but... there doesn't seem to be any other weapons.

later in the game - and you start with fists + shotgun

(+1)

This is pure wizardry! Awesome in each and every little detail. Great performance you squeezed out of Pico-8 there!

(+2)

a new landmark in Pico8 and Doom history. The limited color palette gives it so much personality

(+2)

Amazing work!!! Really loved playing this. I was impressed with how many features you managed to put in there! And also how you managed to communicate core gameplay features (like keycards) with the limited pixel count. Job well done.

(+2)

thanks - that’s the interesting part when working on a limited platform (pico8), each feature is manually picked up.

(+5)

DOOM runs on everything.

Amazing work!

Every Doomer should paly this NOW!

(+1)

masterpiece. so much detail packed in! world lighting up when you fire, flowing lava, barrels that launch other barrels, even boxes are pretty! love all the vertically in the environment!

(+1)

thanks - good catch on the little details ;)

nice game but weird controls

Haven't managed to finish it yet but it was really fun! GJ nailing it!

GJ. I had a lot of fun playing Poom. Very close to the DOS feeling. Also it's Incredible what pico8 is capable of.

At the lava-cliffs I wished I could look down. Also a map would be nice.

How on earth? I'd love to read a technical write-up on how you stored the level data.

The best game on itch.io so far. :3c
