Faced this issue yesterday and also just now.

 1 - https://retroarchofficial.itch.io/retroarch

 2 - Multiple files, from 150mb to 250 mb

 3 - Uploaded May 2023

 5 - South Asia

6 - Downloads fine, but files are corrupt. I checked the 7zip files in an editor, the file starts with the correct header and has binary data. Same with zip files.

7 - Through regular vanilla browser downloads.

Hi

What is the consensus about games for girls? I saw the video present in the overview of this jam and it didn't really have any solid conclusions. It seemed to suggest that all GOOD games can qualify.

What do you guys think? Given that the jam theme specifies not to make games that pander to stereotypes. So horses, dolls and candy crush clones are out of the window.

Awesome! Many thanks for responding.

Hi

Sorry for coming back again with another noob question.  I have never taken part in an adventure game jam so  gotta ask this. What is the  minimum  length of game I have to make for it to be considered a legit entry? I suppose it is more about the story thread and how much of it is resolved within the jam entry, instead of  time/duration . But it would be great to hear it from someone experienced here.

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hi

Short version: Are there any adventure game specific game engines out there?

Long: I am an old soul and loved adventure games back in the day. Now I am interested in them again and basically joined this jam to see what else can be done in this genre. Checking out previous year's games from this jam, it seems there is some kind of tool that people use to make the games. It would be great to learn about such tool/tools. Or if you can point me to a resource where more details can be found, it would be awesome.

There are other folks who tried this same concept, this one is the best though.

Technically impressive, enormous amount of effort must have went into making this. However, beside providing a cinematic/story experience, this kind of game style doesn't offer much interactivity and game play.  Its actually the limitation of the genre. Having said that, the graphics and experience was jaw dropping. the music was great too.

Quite a challenging and fun game.

Thanks for the feedback.  That is indeed the intended behavior , which got left out of the final upload. It was a really rushed game TBH, but I did fix up a lot of things in an update, which you can try if you are interested to see the progress.  Here is the link to the update:

Hey.  Thanks for trying. This was a rushed attempt and many elements were left unfinished.   You can check the updated  version with more levels and content, here:

Thanks for playing. If you are on a computer, you can press spacebar to reload the gun.

This could easily be the best game of the jam, fun to play, and fits so well with the theme.

Many thanks for encouragement. If you liked it, you can check out an updated version of the game here (with more levels, touch controls, balanced gameplay): https://gd.games/itchforever

And of course I am gonna review/rate your game as well.

Hey, thanks for the review. I made a much improved version, it is here if you want to try: https://gd.games/itchforever

Hey thanks for playing. I started making this a day or so before the deadline, I couldn't get all the things done.

The On/Off theme element is in the mechanic of Reload (spacebar), the ship has to disappear and reappear at a new location.

You are right, its probably awful for a new player. You can check out a more polished version of this here: https://gd.games/itchforever

Epic project, the detail in design is eye opening, this is so cool for a jam game. Hope you develop this further and turn it into a polished finished game.

Lovely game, a little hard to control with mouse, (perhaps playing on a phone might be easier), also challenging.

Thank you for your kind words, the game is indeed broken and unfinished. Let me check out your entry.

In the comical boomer way, I am just not able to follow the movement of the vehicle, to me the camera seems to be made of butter :D HAHA

Yes please, one hit should be enough for the first  kind of enemy.  2 hits maybe for the 2nd kind. And  enemy should bounce back if a successful hit is made, and not keep running towards the player.

The animation of the sword attack, if you can tweak it to be an instant attack (when key is pressed), that will be awesome.  It might or might now break its syncing with the sound effect but the sword attack is quite slow.

Hey, great job, I got much farther than before. Is the sword attack actually useful? I couldn't kill a single enemy. Very nice game and its much smoother now gameplay wise.

Yes, its more playable now. Thanks!!

Any plans on making the powerup screen appear less frequently? It just halts the flow. Plus, making the selection of power with arrow keys would be quite helpful to players.

Awesome graphics and  immersion.   The movement is a little too fast for me. When the player hits a deadly obstacle , I expect a push-back  motion, instead of  staying in the same position getting damage from the trap.    Same with the enemy, when enemy and player collide, something should happen.

Lastly,  you might want to turn off smoothing on the player sprites as it is blurring the pixelart. There is probably a setting to enable Nearest-Neighbor   filtering in Construct 3.

Hey.  I have a few suggestions for this game.

I think the key combination that you should use, as most people are familiar with it and expect it, is either arrow keys for movement, or WASD for movement. W=up, S=down, D=right, A=left.

When  I played it, there weren't any enemies to shoot at, it would be nice to have some, in case there aren't any.

Also, the bullet speed should be much faster, and it should be be released instantly after clicking.

oh sorry my mistake, I meant to say the minigun but instead I said cannon.

Superb game, really enjoyed playing.

One thing I would love to see changed is how enemies always go for the player, whether its the bullets that are always flying exactly at your location, or a bunch of enemies just leaping at you (and getting stuck).

If you ease up on this aspect, I wouldn't have so much difficulty playing.

And I hope there is a mechanic with which the firing rate of the gun can be improved.

Looks fun, couple of things I would love to see you revisit, if possible.

The sky color combined with flying brown stuff is too hard to see due to the color combination, perhaps a darker more contrasting look will improve this? The ship can also be a little darker in their shadow area.

When firing, it would be tremendous help if cannon fires nearly instantly after pressing the key, and the bullets are more visible. The visibility issue can be improved if the sky color is altered.

Again, this is just my opinion, all of this could actually be intended features. In that case, I apologize.

From my own experience, I have learned the importance of play-testing, it makes or breaks the experience.

Definitely.   You should also try a game called  Vampire Survivors,  that is what I am trying to go after.

Glad you liked it.  Attack is automatic, that is a feature, health disappearing is a bug unfortunately.

I love it, I was skeptical at first but after experiencing  the game,   I was impressed and inspired.      Despite the fact that  I played as a single player and couldn't collect a single key, or my lost friend,   the atmosphere was killer! I did spot the bride though,  it was an insane sight!.

Some quirks that I am sure  will be fixed in the future:

You have to drop the light to open doors.

You have to stand at certain distance for the door to open, even though the screen display says   "Press E to  interact".

The size of the game needs to be brought down, it is a massive download!

After completing the game (dying) you are taken to the character selection, instead of main menu.

Can't wait to experience the improved incarnation of this fantastic entry, a job well done!

Top marks for presentation, all design elements are top-notch. Congrats.

The gameplay is difficult, its almost like a simulation, would love to see a more forgiving hitting mechanic .

Great entry, I love the HC gameplay elements, smooth visuals and experience. Core loop needs some work and you have a nice Hyper Casual mobile game ready for Playstore!

This one oozes charm, character and warmth. Great alignment with the theme and requirements. I was lucky to experience the game with 3 players and things went smoothly. I would love to see more depth introduced to the core loop, this could easily be a party favorite. A great entry as usual.

Yes, some comments in the jam are a bit insensitive. I believe they  will learn soon as feedback in all non-local jams tends be encouraging and positive.

Game jams are a way to learn, have fun and collaborate. Taking jt too seriously goes against the spirit of game jams, participants shouldn't  become negative nancies, there is always a lot of positive to focus on.

Good luck in your learning and game dev journey and I wish good health to your team mate.

Your art kicks ass!

Great feedback. Sorry you had difficulty with the game, are you referring to the line in description about mouse? If so, that was meant to convey that game will need mouse clicks for buttons and stuff. I will rephrase that sentence.

The game is  certainly not finished, it lacks a win state, for which I apologise. The desi theme is not apparent and obvious, that has been a common complaint.

Anyway, I appreciate your no holds barred honestly.

Thanks, this is what happens when you do all the work on the last day 😇

I did put in a health regeneration feature, but it doesn't work correctly and actually eats up health :D The finished game would have had pickups, power ups, weapons, shields and more. Check out Vampire Survivors or any of its clones to see the idea in action.
