In what way does your game fit the theme?
I took the mechanic of the old arcade classic breakout and turned it backwards, blocks are built up instead of broken down. The playfield is rewound ^.^

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
With the exception of the monitor frame and music all the assets and code are indeed created by myself. Credit to these assets is given in the description.

I really enjoyed the game. the visuals and the audio were top-notch. I really like the concept of the field building backwards. Just one thing, since it was a WebGL game, sometimes the cursor would go out of the screen. Due to which the I would loose control of the platform. But apart from that, awesome game.

Could you please rate my game too? Its not as good as yours, but still it would mean a lot to me if you rated my game.

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedback, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you liked it!

About that issue you had:
Did you play it in fullscreen or embedded into the website? Unity and WebGL don't allow you to catch the cursor, only in fullscreen for security reasons. I'm actually checking if it is fullscreen and then grab the cursor, and ungrab it if it's not. If you did play in fullscreen and it happened regardless that means you've found a bug in which case I'd be glad if you could tell me the browser you were using?

Reminds me of when I used to play brick breaker on the school iMacs but much more colorful and the concept is really cool!

Developer

Good old times... Thank you very much, I'm glad you liked it and I could instil a little nostalgia!

Love the art work! Great idea and music too :D

Developer

Hey there, thank you a lot, I'm glad you liked my game! :D

The artwork is amazing, I don't know if it's just me but the game seemed a bit slow to me.

Pd: to solve the fullscreen double button, go to "Edit game", in "Embed options" uncheck the fullscreen option.

Since a mug makes level 3 twice as difficult I didn't want to overwhelm the player too much. Was planning for ball sleep powerups as well and will come in future installments.
Ouh hey, and thanks for the tip! Neat!

I was so confused until I suddenly understood the concept. Once I realized it, I started to really enjoy it! The graphics are super cool for a game jam, and the music is top notch. Good work!

Developer

I'm really glad you liked it! :D

Woooooow great concept, great art.  The mixture of 2d and 3d is really cool.  My one little constructive criticism would be to try and figure out how to get better ball bouncing, maybe change the bounce settings in the physics project settings, or change the physics materials of objects.  I would very often get the ball bouncing off at very shallow angles which is not right for a breakout style game.

Developer

There are some very nasty "bugs" hidden in the unity physics engine that I had to greatly work around. For example does unity interpret shallow impact angles as "contact" which results in a slide. The physics material is a 100% elastic bounce but it still happens from time to time. I wrote some detection to try and avoid it but I think that I may need to implement the actual bounce myself and not rely on physics but use triggers instead. The paddle does this due to the fact that this behavior made it unplayable.
You're pointing at a really interesting aspect of the development of this title ^^
For the shallow ball angle, that's most likely user induced because I don't convey the mechanics of the paddle properly. You see, the velocity of the paddle and the previous angle of the ball determines the exit angle. Due to this you have to move the paddle in the direction you want the ball to bounce. I noticed that this allows a lot more trick shots (when you know that this is the actual mechanic) but I also noticed that it confuses players a lot when this is not communicated. Better communication job next time xP

I'm glad you like the overall concept, thank you very much ^^

The backwards concept its pretty cool and the graphics are simply amazing!  A pretty well polished game!

Great job! :D

Developer

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! :D

Good one! I like the art style, the glowing stuff and the commander is goood ha! Solid work and nice concept. The only thing I may add is that sometimes you get stuck because the ball doesnt change direction when hitting on a different place of the player bar. That's it!

I would appreciate feedback on mine, thanks!

Developer

I think I need a better way to convey the mechanics of the paddle. The ball gets a little bit of the velocity of the paddle, in order to change direction the paddle must move. Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you liked it! :D

I like how you took a well know game with a well known concept and managed to turn it on its head just by applying this jam's theme. The visuals and the music are really nice. The only thing that 'd change is how you give the ball a direction: in Breakout, you hit the ball with the end of the pad, but here it doesn't work at all. It seems like it's based on your velocity, but i find it a bit difficult to pull off consistently

Developer

Yes, the concept is the velocity. I figured that people who played breakout in the past eventually have an issue with this. I wanted it to feel more natural but there are some player driven patterns that this control sceme enables which are problematic, like constant steep ball angles.

loved the game it was like a brick breaker level 3 i could not beat may try again at some point i didn't see the rewind theme very well if i was not told about the way it was related to rewind i would never had known but it is there

Developer

Level 3 has a bug on it which makes it very difficult to solve. I'm planning for more rewindy effects in the future

Amazing graphics and very fun gameplay! I enjoyed it a lot, though it gets a little repetitive at times.

Hope you had a blast making it and good luck! ^^

Developer

It was a lot of fun when it finally came together. I;m glad you liked it! :D

The visuals on this game were top notch! The new take on Breakout added an interesting challenge because I kept getting the last brick to be at the top of all other bricks haha. I died on the third level, the slanted bricks were tough! Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed playing.

Developer

Hey, thank you! I'm glad you liked it so much :D

Gotta admit this was more fun than expected! Great music and aesthetics!

Developer

Hey, thanks! Yeah I wasn't even sure if the concept would work but I'm glad it did xP

The game is simply awesome in terms of art and assets. I think the game play may need to be tweaked to make it more fast pace but besides from that it looks great

Developer

Multiple balls and stressful powerup drops were planned. It would've given you more to chew on xP
Thank you very much for your feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it ^^

No problem! Sorry if I ended up sounding a little harsh, hope to see more of your stuff!

Developer(+1)

You did not at all sound harsh, i'm rather excited that you basically saw the vision too ^^

Rated, i liked it good job, maybe if you had time you could check out my game : )

Developer

And done! Thank you for playing mine and may I say, yours did surprise me after the tutorial, it really kicked into gear with it's mechanics, was a lot of fun :D
