Oh man I loved this, great job here.

This was very well done. Love the random spells and having to be careful not to accidentally heal enemies! Looked forward to seeing the visuals/effects of each new spell! <3

Nice Game, I feel that you could add health bars to the enemies and maybe a way to regain mana after each room so you don't just wait around before the next one.

Also if you go back to a previous room with a monster following you the door shuts in his face, allowing you to attack from a safe distance, maybe close the door after the player enters to stop this.

Absolutely adored this game!

Graphics and presentation are great (love the pixel art and animations), controls are top notch and responsive, and the mechanic around random spells with random MP costs is clever and done well.

Can’t really think of any improvements other than maybe make the dash have a longer cooldown so it’s not spammed?

One of my favourites from the jam, awesome job!

Thanks! Most sprites and animations are from 0x72. Other sprites and animations were made by us, but these are mostly limited to spells and other effects.

I love this type of games and you executed it well! If I could ask for one thing, please make attacks automatic on mouse button hold (with certain cooldowns). Enemies have a lot of HP and clicking so many times made my finger hurt. Also, I can see how the mechanics could be exploited with an auto-clicker.

Cool idea, I liked the diversity of spells. My only complaint would be that I feel like it's better of fast-clicking the melee attack than waiting for mana to refill, as the spell are not always very effective.

Wow thats really cool, very original, would love to play this as a full game!

This is cool!

my finger hurts

But in al seriousness, just as someone else said, the enemies have a bit to much hp, so it takes a little too long to kill them. But apart from that, the graphics and gameplay and sound effects are all really nice! This is a really cool game.

Cool idea, and great polish. Perhaps there could be a bit more explanation at the start of the game as to how the special attacks work, since I played half the game without realising they existed...

Developer

Yeah, explaining controls is a part of the game we should have considered more instead of putting them in the game page.

Very fun game. Feels like an 'Angry Gandalf' simulator.

Developer

Thanks!

Curious to know, was Hero in Smash Bros Ultimate the inspiration?

Developer(+1)

How did you know? Me and my teammate are big fans of the game!

The way the mana system worked clued me in. I do a lot of posting on Smashboards

Hello, so I think this could be a really fun game with just a few tweeks. Enemies are bullet sponges and I am just sitting there mashing the button which would be alot for fun if you increased the number of enemies and made them take a tenth the hits to kill. Also it would have been nice to the have the option to hold the left mouse button to repeatedly swing as I don't believe clicking as fast as possible is what makes your game fun. The gimmick of your game is the random spells, so why do you make it where it feels like I can never use them? Allowing the player to use the spell at a larger rate would allow for more bombastic fight and exciting fights then my just kiting enemies and mashing left mouse. Right now I never make the decision to whether to use a spell or not I am just waiting for it to basically come off cooldown. You don't want the player to only be using spells but instead have the option to choose weather to use melee or the spell compared to how I felt the game is now which for me was just waiting 30 seconds and then use it then waiting again. You have a lot of awesome game feel and particles in the game but the balance is off. I highly recommend if you can get a couple of your friends to play the game and give feedback before your final submission. It could help a lot to add that into your timing for your next jam. Non the less I enjoyed it and sorry if I sound like I didn't!

thanks for your review very much , we found out many problems with your help

I love games like this. The fantasy theme is great, and I love the art. However, I would've liked the text in the UI to not have such a basic font. I think using a different readable font that fit the fantasy theme would've helped it some, but that's just a minor nitpick.

The first thing I thought when I loaded into the game was "this game has no in-game tutorial". I tried to figure things out without checking the controls on the page because I like to give reviews based entirely off of my in-game experience. However, I got bored of spamming left click to kill an enemy with 15-20 hits multiple times. I feel like the number of hits it took to kill enemies dragged the game out unnecessarily longer than it needed to be. I think it would've been better to have a shorter game and have enemies feel better by killing them faster.

I didn't know I could cycle through spells with Q until the room before the final boss (when I finally looked at the controls on the page) and by that point I was mostly playing just to finish. But, it did get more fun when I had more control over what spell I wanted to use. Thinking about getting a random spell, I know the theme is "out of control" and I wonder "is that fun?" For me, it wasn't until I realized I could cycle through spells because I just felt like I was clicking for the sake of finishing the game and using spells just to finish faster, but the latter problem went away when I started cycling spells. I think the focus of the game should've been on using spells to make the player feel like an action-packed wizard badass. But as of now, there's a lot of downtime between casting each spell, which makes it an action game about how fast you can left click to kill things. I think killing enemies should help regenerate mana faster, or just have the passive regen be faster.

Overall, I really wanted to enjoy the combat, but the time it took to kill the enemies, the soreness in my index finger from spamming left click, and lack of in-game tutorial took away from it. That being said, once I knew all of the controls, it was very fun to dash around swapping spells killing things. I just wish I could kill enemies quicker, use spells more often, and knew I could cycle through spells before I got so late into the game.

Thanks for the compliments!

Yeah, having an in game tutorial would have been better, we didn't even consider it, thinking just putting the controls in the game page would be enough. Thanks for the great feedback! We might remake the game after the jam, so all feedback is helpful!

This game is cool and fun! I like the concept. Makes me think of the type of game that me and my sister would have played for hours on our old MS DOS computer
