I didn't get to play your game before the game jam ends, but I'm lucky that I did.
Last minute jam rating lol. It’s pretty much a classic RPG Maker experience, with the deaths and all. I think the 2.5D look is beautiful, and I’m surprised I haven’t seen more RPG Maker games on Steam go for this kind of style. I love the sprite work and the design of the main character and environments. The setting is quite eerie and fits the horror vibe perfectly.
The use of the bell to attract the monster is creative, and I think the game’s sound design is really good. Even putting my hand into the water and dying startled me a bit, despite it using a default RPG Maker sound. The placement of the sounds throughout the game is very well done.
I might just be a little dumb, but I got stuck at certain points and wasn’t sure where to go. Still, I really enjoyed it and plan to try it again later. Again, this game just looks so good! Great job!
Thanks! The design of this game was defiantly inspired by classic rpg maker stuff. Cowchy made some amazing sounds for this, it was a blast putting them front and center.
Good stuff.
The setting and atmosphere was great.
Love the 2.5d graphics - I can't believe it was made in RPG Maker! Had a great spooky atmosphere and gave me a constent feeling of being lost.
This game looks and feels incredible! I’m amazed by how much atmosphere you managed to create in RPG Maker. It’s cute, yet creepy and unsettling in the best way. The bell mechanic was such a clever touch, adding tension at just the right moments.
Fantastic work, definitely one of the most unique games I’ve seen in the jam!
The game looks amazing. I love the 2.5D style, the filter, and the screen resolution, which gives the game a cozy feel. It was unexpected to see the change in camera perspective from a first-person perspective (I felt anxious at that moment). I was also surprised by the contrast between the cute visuals and the creepy scenes. You've created something truly unique.
This game has a really unique aesthetic, especially since it was made with RPG Maker—that's awesome! I loved the sound design and how you built the atmosphere. Congrats on the game!
And if you get a chance, please check out my game! I would be really happy for you to play it and give me your feedback.
I really liked the whole audiovisual presentation - the voice mimicking sounds in the dialogue, the ambient noises, the door sounds. I also really liked the weird space-warping effects in some of the hallways, like the one with the candelabra in the middle - maybe they have something to do with changing elevation, but it looks surreal. Also the way levels change when you backtrack.
Being crushed in a crawlspace was legit unsettling. That scene was straight out of Junji Ito manga.
And I didn't even know you could do 3D environments like that in RPG Maker MZ.
By the way, what's with that VHS tape? I couldn't figure it out yet.
The VHS tape is related to some optional secrets in the Skellet. One of those "think outside the box but it's actually in 'a box'" kind of deals. Thanks for the kind words, I did try to make the camera movements more unsettling as you get deeper into the game.
This game is good. It would've been incredible with just a little more help - not with the puzzles, I think those are simple enough - but with the directions and mechanics. I found myself walking from a room to room for solid 15 minutes before I realized I could ring a bell with C (and that I had an inventory lol), and another 10 minutes right at the end, when you go to the birthroom.
But otherwise, very solid. The fact that it utilizes a first person perspective in an RPGMaker is fascinating to me (I don't have any experience with RPGMaker though, so maybe it's easy to do...)
The sound design is great. For a while I was thinking the little keyboard press noises were a music track LOL
The whole thing reminded me of Petscop for some reason. Maybe it's the dialogue box font...
Yeah, assuming everyone knows the base rpg maker controls is a bit silly. Added the controls to the itch page, thanks for pointing it out, and the kind words.
Such a sleek and well-polished game!
I really liked the visual effect that makes it look like it’s being displayed on a TV screen.
The 2.5D Paper Mario-style perspective feels smooth and natural.
It was a bit hard at first to navigate and figure out where to go because of the darkness, but after wandering for a bit, I managed to find my way.
It reminded me of the RPG Maker horror games I used to play when I was a student — a wonderful bit of nostalgia.
Great game!
For a jam game, it has amazing amounts of polish! I like the paper mario 2.5D style camera movements and I almost had a heart attack every time we encountered those demonic goat beasts.
For a cute game, it can be surprisingly creepy so mad props for that! Fantastic job on the puzzles but I wish I had a clearer idea of where to go so I would spend less time fumbling in the dark haha.
Hey! So I would love to try the game, but unfortunately, every time I try to download it, it gets flagged as a virus and the download drops completely from my system...
That sounds like a issue with your browser.
Try this download link instead, let me know if it works.
It's a regular rpg maker mz export, so I don't know why that would come up. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I was really liking the game but got stuck on the safe in the library puzzle xD Searched all over (Even the mouth room) and all I could find was the bath message and numbers on the wall in the room with the notes about god in the middle (near the start).
Mark + James = XX__
Keith + Edward = __XX
if this i to do with the library safe a little more clearer hint would be nice! I tried counting the numbers for each and pulsing them, tried the numbers for each separate, tried flipping around the order, etc
Anyway good job with it I did enjoy what I played :)
You have the puzzle nearly done, just look for the other two names behind the mannequin, right of the first save point. And keep in mind, it's about placing the two sums next to each other. Let me know if this helps you out. Thanks for playing our game, and the kind words.
This one is quite cute! Hard to believe it is pulled off in RPG Maker.
Super cute (cute but scary) game. I really like the character design of the main character. The UI art style and the way of how the character rotates and turn is really charming. The game is quite maze-like, I had some trouble navigating, but it's really cool nonetheless. The moment where the scary things happens works well. So I'm interested in maybe a more flesh-out version of this. The gameplay with the bell is also really interesting.
I haven't managed to finish the game yet, but I've gotten far enough to know that it's a little gem.
It's gorgeous, it's immersive, it's nebulous but not completely bewildering.
The game's imagery is original and really creepy.
And there are even great mechanics like, the bell is a good idea, and I imagine it will be used even more later on.
Very cool, would come back later to finish it
EDIT
Finished the game, didn't find the easter egg yet.
And yeah, It's one of my favorite games from this jam, without a doubt.
The second part brilliantly accelerates and accentuates the horror and atmosphere, the FPS sections are very cool, i love the bell mecanic, the puzzles are just the right level of difficulty...
Not sure I understood the whole scenario, though, but my level in english can explain that. And the vibe was clearly good enough to make me overlook it.
I don't know why I like the game so much, but I do. It's earned a little place in the back of my mind for a while.
Thank you for creating it.
Loved the art style so much, forget how powerful RPG maker can be! Great job
Great game really scary the sound quality is immaculate that art style is amazing its very well made wit ha great atmosphere I got too scared so I couldn't finish it also my mate and I were stuck on the safe puzzle until we noticed the text box just told us.
greatly reminds me of early 2010s rpg maker horror games, really good vibes.
I really enjoyed this game! Enjoyed the aesthetic as well. Congrats!!
