As a platformer game, it has a solid base. But honestly, I do not quite understand the identity of the game or how it really fits either the visual theme or the jam’s twist, other than the fact that the game is played inside a TV. The art is good, and jumping around was actually funny.
Great work.
Nice game, pretty quick. I like the visuals.
I liked that I was able to "steer" while jumping to make it easier to land on the platforms.
I think I got all 4 items but then a spooky ghost came and got me. 💀
The mechanics are a huge strength of this game, although I could not figure out how to avoid the approaching enemy successfully. The precision jumping and responsiveness of the input is excellent. Did you use a physics engine for this maybe? Not sure how you did it, but it was done really effectively. I love also how the faded noise of the approaching enemy builds suspense and almost panic! The scan lines of the TV's screen give it a unique visual style. And the background noises / SFX were placed very well also, and they help to create a creepy tense atmosphere. Good job!
Glad that you noticed the movement, it's not much scripting actually but I did take time to adjust the movement so that it feels that way.
About the enemy you can't really avoid him he just instant-kills you.
Thanks alot
Here's a video of me doing a play through,.. twice,.. because I thought I may have missed something :D.
Quick platformer to hop along through. I like the changes to the image as each piece was collected.
Would have liked the camera to push forwards from further back (see a bit more of the screen ahead).
Well done bringing this all together :)
No way! Thanks alot for playing and putting together a video! And yeah I think I should've added way more to this, and adjusted the camera.
Appreciate it
I liked the aesthetic that you created. I liked the graphics you used and the parallaxed background layers were great. The movement and the jumping felt very smooth and intuitive. I really loved the effect you created of the intensifying TV static every time you collected one of the items. I thought the ambient rain sound was a nice touch as well.
As others have said I think you could benefit a lot with simple things like (perhaps) a sound for walking, jumping and collecting the items. And then perhaps a simple mechanic like when you collect all the items a weapon spawns and if you collect it and press 'e' at the right time you banish the ghost and win, kind of thing. I appreciate how difficult it is to get everything done in just 7 days though and I think what you submitted is really good so well done.
Thanks for playing! This is based off of Five Nights at Freddy's minigames hence why it's quiet and mysterious, but Ill definitely keep those ideas in mind, especially a way for the player to win 😅 Thanks for the feedback, it means alot!
Personally I kind of like the lack of ambient noise such as footsteps, jumping and collecting. It seems to add something by not being there, if that makes sense.
I really liked how the TV gradually got darker after each interactable — that visual progression was a great touch! I was a bit confused when the road suddenly got blocked and the ghost started chasing me, and then the game seemed to end abruptly.
Just a random idea: it might be interesting to extend the levels a bit and add more interactables so the screen gets REALLY dark towards the end. That way, the tension and atmosphere could really peak right before the jumpscare!!
Thanks alot for playing! I'll try to expand on the gameplay way more, since I did initially have ALOT of plans. Love the ideas and again thanks alot!
I like the visuals, like other commenters i was a bit confused about the ending but now i read i see i am always doomed, i would have liked some background music and other sounds.
One things that bothered me is that i had less space before me then behind me which might be intentional to make it harder but it felt a bit off to me
The platforming however felt good so well done
Thanks for playing, I was trying to adjust between the camera and that TV border but I guess it does look a bit off which I might fix. I think I could've improved on the ending and SFX a bit more since I did try to make it more mysterious and eerie.
Really appreciate it!
It was nicely presented but the level ends to the right is confusing as no real indicator of what to do. The first time I jumped down a hole thinking there must be and underworld.
Sound and visuals were great. I think you need to sell and explain the artifacts in game with a bit or juice and response i.e a jingle. I would be cool to build shrines of candles and set dressing to show they are special.
This definitely lays the framework for a creepy horror 2d game. Once I collected the final artifact, I was pretty on edge to see what happens next. I'm wondering, is it possible to avoid the monster at the end? I tried a few times to jump over it, but it always ended up getting me. Maybe there could be a scary chase sequence that leads to the next level or something. Nice job!
Thanks alot for playing! It actually just ends like that. You're always DOOMED 😅 I would try to make different endings next time
I liked the player art and background art, it's really cute. I think adding an additional mechanic in the game could make it more fun!
Love the vibe in this game, great job! I wasn't sure what to do when the flying guy spawned and started chasing me, not sure if there's a way to win there but it wasn't obvious!
Appreciate it alot!
That last part was actually a jumpscare, you can't escape him. I did initially think of making multiple endings but it was too complicated for the time I had and just opted to making one creepy chase ending. But thanks alot for playing!
Really liked the pixel art. The "old TV effect" was also quite nice and gave the game the atmosphere it needed. Congrats!
Thanks!
The "old TV effect" are called CRT shaders btw if you're interested. Basically overlays similar to CRT TVs ontop of the gameplay that make this effect
Very scary and atmospheric experience! I loved the creepy mystery vibes this game me, its a world I really want to explore! The TV lines also were a great touch, reminded me of the FNAF2/3 minigames, which was cool.
Overall, I really like the world you've made here! One issue I found was the camera centering. It being too far right makes the game feel slightly off.
Also, "Beware of any bizarre entities." is very funny in hindsight.
Great work
Appreciate it alot!
Yep, the CRT effects and the designs were HEAVILY inspired by FNAF minigames 💀I did try to capture that eerie feel to it. And yes...bizarre entities .
About the camera centering, I tried to center it a bit more but I also had align the TV border overlay, which is why it looks that way. I think I could've centered it better and Ill keep that issue in mind. Thanks alot though!
Good looking game!
My main bitter point is lack of check points. It is really painful to start over once you fail.
Thank you alot Ilya!
I didn't really think of adding checkpoints since the game is so short (and you can't really win even if you collect all. You're always doomed 💀). But Ill try to think of a workaround for my next projects.
Really nice graphics! I also like creepypasta vibes on this one.
Nice graphics. The increased TV texture as you collected whatever those were was cool. The ending was funny. The controls were good too. It wasn't as hard as I expected to land on those little plinths.
The camera seemed to be centered on the right-hand side of the screen which was a bit weird. Would have been nice to see more content.
Nice start!
Appreciate it alot!
I did adjust alot so that the gameplay could look smooth. But about the camera I really had to precisely align between the camera and the TV border which is why it looked like that. I think I could've centered the camera a bit better and Ill keep that in mind next time. Thanks for playing!
I don't know what game engine you are using, but in Godot you can pass a rectangle to the 2D camera and it won't go outside of those bounds. You can code something similar in any game engine.
It is made in Godot yeah. Never really thought of doing that since the TV border is just a completely seperate TextureRect but nice to know
fire! I love the art, and I'd love to see some more content on here!
Thanks alot!
Simple but quite cool platformer. I also like those moving forest backgrounds.
Thanks alot! It's called a parallax effect background if you're interested. Basically 2 layers of a background on top of each other where one is bigger and moves slower than the other.
Yeah, I know the effect name. I just wanted to say that it's looking good in your game :)
Game was excellent. You little guy was super, until he wasn't. Nice job, thanks for the play
