As a certified daydreamer-whos-dreams-turn-into-nightmares myself I approve of this heavily
Awesome visuals and soundtrack! I'm not a big fan of these turn-based RPGs (even though my nickname is literally based off Temmie from Undertale) but this one was carried by the story
Very solid RPG with intriguing story, I really enjoyed it!
Keep up the good work!
A few of the fights took me a couple of tries, but once I figured out that I could use Starpower to heal myself outside of battles and that I could built up my TP by guarding and using Life Ender to drain a ton of health, I was able to win some of the fights pretty easily, especially the boss fight at the end of the game. The highlight of the game was the story, which was not only emotional but well-written.
Amazing jam entry.
The gameplay was standard RPG Maker, but everything else about it was great. The story had real depth for a Game Jam game, and visually it was fantastic. Great game.
Just wow this is actually a lot of content for a jam, I'm impressed. I liked the story, it really made my guts feel bad, even though the game is so short I really feel for the player character and johanna. Very dreadful and surreal. Nice to see a similar system used like in fear and hunger, sadly a bit underutilised as there are no equipment you can loot or equip but that's okay, probably time constraints. The visuals and sound design is impressive, the visuals are the right amount of cute and disturbed as are the sounds. Generally very well done good job!
Always love a rpg, and this one was no exception. Short and sweet, with some cool enemy designs! The final boss had a bit of a Mother vibe, that was really fun and made it feel different from the previous encounters. The story also touched me, as someone who lost a loved one to sickness and had to grieve them while they were still alive. Really nice experience overall.
Oh and I enjoyed all the flavor text on the equipment etc, it was a really nice touch that implied a lot of world building.
I thought it was alright, I didn't play until the end, but I think it is cool that there is quite a lot of content in the game. I got stuck on the first castle section, because it took me a bit to figure out you can interact with NPCs. You gave hints for the arrow keys and the inventory, but not for interaction - because of that, I thought it was not a function in the game.
I didn't like the sound effects. I liked the ambient music, but the sfx was for me way too loud, clashing with the ambience and in general, just out of place. And it was quite repetitive, which did not make it better for me either,...
but other than that, I think it was quite solid.
I'm sorry, there is a problem with SFX audio in the web version where it is maxed out and has to be manually turned down in the settings.
As for the interact command, it was in the web page description
I am very pleased that all the RPG elements work. The game reminds me of Undertale. I would also like to mention the music, which created the right atmosphere. You have done an excellent job
Definitely a solid composition. Agree that this is one of the better RPG Maker game for scream jam,
Not a huge fan of RPGs in general but enjoyed the storyline on this one!
SFX where decent too.
Nitpicky (and maybe uninformed opinion) I kinda want some animation on the enemies to mark when they are at half or a third health. I had no real feel for how much damage I was or wasn't doing to the enemies. Maybe even some animation where the character recoil??
Overall polished piece especially for a solo dev.
I enjoyed what I played. This is one of the better rpg maker submissions on here. At lot of cool effects and nice battle gameplay, very juicy too.
Solid game with nice visuals. I can definitely see the EarthBound-inspired style. The story is cool as well, and using RPG Maker for this project was a smart choice.
One small nitpick: it would be nice if the game had an auto-save feature, so players don’t risk losing progress if they forget to save.
Overall, great work
Yeah if i update the game After the jam Is over, a checkpoint system is one of the first things I'm planning, way less people than I expected used the save system
It was a wonderful story.
While playing, I was reminded of Deltarune, but the slightly lower-saturation graphics in this game fit its atmosphere perfectly.
If you managed to create something like this all by yourself in just a week, I can’t wait to see what kind of games you’ll make in the future
Wow! I was really intrigued by this story, and while playing i enjoyed the tortured feeling of the character, it made me want to keep playing to see Josie's face. If your storytelling is like this in such a short time, I'd love to see what else you write. Definitely keep making more games!

Much room to improve, you did well RPG and pixel is not easy so I respect the outcome that you pulled out!!
Good job!
Wow! This is actually really great! Even though I've never played RPG of that era, I still really like it! It feels like there's a lot of work that has been put here, the sprites, the story, and the music, all made within 7 days is really incredible! (I mean I don't know which one are asset from somewhere else, which one are made within the jam, but still all of them looks really incredible!) I really like the story, how it's actually the sickness of her friend, and ended perfectly with that song she hum at the beginning. Really good stuff!
Most SFXs are default/generic, but for the rest basically all of the graphics (except for font), "music" and background audio was made by me.
The story was unexpected. it was the part that i most liked. the combat system was a bit confusing but i just spammed the magic attack that heals you. is there another way to heal in game?
The 3 ways to heal are to use the starpower skill, which tends to be quite weak during combat, but can be useful at low health or to stall, the "Holy slashes", that deal damage and always heals the same set amount, and the "Life ender", which aborbs enemies HP. During the final boss, you also get a regen effect although this is something I didn't display properly. You can use starpower outside of combat.
i just won without healing wtf. i found the dificulty appealing xd
I'm not gonna lie that when I saw this game, I wasn't expecting it to be so emotional for me. And this aesthetic? I could play this game for hours! The story is emotional and brings a heavy theme, but I think that that is what makes this game so good. It feels short, but I like how it doesn't prolong for more than necessary.
I love it!
Nicely put together rpg exercise. Liked the soundtrack, the shifting tile-sets, and all the cinematic effects. I guessed the plot very early on, but I still enjoyed going through all the beats. I appreciated how you made the rpg mechanics deeper than the usual stock rpg mv/mz fights. Good stuff.
The RPG mechanics are cool, and I liked all the different things you could do. The Life Ender magic seems particularly strong, but I understand why. The story wasn't really clicking for me, I am sure it will for others. This is great, good job!
Immediately, even upon just loading up the game, I already loved the art style, very early rpg maker project feel in a good way! the sound design was also well executed over all, I do have some gripes with it but they are very small. the fights are a little odd in a game like this, I get that its and rpg maker game so you cant really avoid it (depending on what version of rpg maker your using) but they do feel like something that just shouldn't be here, especially with how serious of a story you seem to be trying to tell. regardless it was a rather good game that made me feel. Good work!
