The game's visuals are really good, I especially like the models and PBR materials.

But I couldn't get far on the game from how I played there was no trigger to the actions I performed, I tried a bunch of stuff like cranking the joystick, changing the phasers, frequency, and stuff, but nothing happened on my end or anything indicating that there was anything happening. Only after clicking on everything that I understood after accidentally clicking on it that I needed to check the terminal monitor, and even then I thought I had to change the frequency on the other monitors, instead I needed to type "frequency" on the terminal. It is very unintuitive.
The game could also do with some more option settings on the main menu.

Apart from that great work, the visuals and models are amazing and I also really liked the music.

Overall really enjoyed this game, I really liked the slow burn of finding new signals while piecing together what happened to you and the world you are in, it makes you want to progress through the game. I do think the game ended a little abruptly with too many open questions, especially with what was happening with the locked door, and some closure on what exactly happened to my ship during the jump and at the end of the game. Also, the blast shields never came into play (unless i missed something). But regardless, still a really cool experience.

Developer

thank you so much!! yea we ended up a little short on time to really refine the storytelling, and working in the environmental details into it. im really glad you enjoyed it!!

Awesome! I didn't understand what to do with the blast shield stuff and all and I'm guessing thats why the game got stuck at the last message, but it was really interesting! I'd say maybe have the download happen a bit faster once you get close to 100% match so it doesn't take so much waiting around doing nothing. But i definitely loved figuring out how to best match the signals it was fun, nice game and a lot of potential to expand on, great job!

Developer(+1)

thank you!! yea the blast shield was just an environmental thing you can interact with but doesn't serve a function. totally agree about the download being after, we should have spent a bit more time tweaking the speed. thanks for playing!!!

Very creative! My programmer's mind really liked it! I might have ruined the ending though... I lowered the windows so my screen just slowly went white. Not sure if I was supposed to do something else. Would have loved to see some more variety in decoding the message.

Overall, really enjoyed playing!

Developer (1 edit)

no the screen slowly going white was the ending! that means you got all the messages :) thanks so much for playing!!

A little too technical for me but the idea is great!

Developer

thanks for playing! can defo see it not being one for everyone but i'm grateful you tried it out :))

If you like the voices of the void or signal simulator, then this game will speak to you. This game doesn't overstay its welcome, but the signal processing is both a satisfying gameplay loop and a creative way of revealing the story through piecing together different signals. I believe that for a game jam, we can excuse things like lack of polish, but I am completely genuine when I say that a second art/polishing pass could make this an excellent game that I could see being released on Steam. This was a great game that I thoroughly enjoyed. Good job to everyone who worked on it. Great Game!

Developer

thank you!! much appreciated :))

The whole system was really neat! It was kinda like tuning a radio! :D The back area with the blast shield was a tad off, couldn't quite figure out what to do back there. a bit more tutorial on the joystick part would have helped as well! Good overall!

Developer

thanks so much for playing on stream!!

Submitted(+1)

I love horror / sci-fi games. I really enjoyed the radio tuning and command entering, it was fun. Although I wasn't quite sure what to do after decoding and outputting the signal.

Developer

thanks so much! this should have been clearer but after one signal you go back to the signal finder (joystick) and move on to the next one! that's kind of the game loop if that makes sense

Submitted

Ah ok, I was also staring maybe too long at the beeping dots on the holo display thing :D

The atmosphere of in this is created beautifully, this is an amazingly well made game

Developer

Thank you!

Short and sweet and they knew how to change it up once it started to get repetitive. I did have a little trouble reading the font and had to squint, but I also have bad eyesight so that may not be an issue for everyone.

Developer

thank you!!!

Nice work. The audio is top tier :)

Developer

thanks so much!!

5 Stars on Sound Design, this game is perfect in terms of asethetic as well. Took a sec to get the hang of but I really enjoyed it. I love terminal games too, so thats fun. I will most likely go back and finish this game tonight. Overall super polished game and the audio is so so so so Nice!

Developer

wow thank you so much!!

I love the concept (even if frequency control was a challenge to figure out, those knobs are finicky), however the text commands aren't very accessible to folks with memory issues - if I mess something up, chances are it scrolls the instructions off the screen and I have no way of going back to see them again, so I'm just stuck (plus I think the decode command may have been bugged?)

Developer (2 edits)

oh sorry about that! i tried to put all critical information in the "decoding" and "protocol" commands so you could run them and re-read whenever necessary, was there something missed off of those?

also any more specific info on the decode command not working would be great, you're the first to report issue with it so would love to fix if theres a bug

thanks for playing regardless :))

Submitted (2 edits)

The issue is you often need information off multiple commands that don't fit on the same screen (if you can remember what both of those commands are), that or you mess up/don't understand how to input a command and it pushes information you need now or later off the screen. Regarding the decoding bug, it's possible I was missing a step because I was trying to follow the example on the screen and missing other information I needed? Let me know if you ever want to run a live playtest, I'd be happy to show you how much I rely on available reference :P

Submitted

Interesting concept you did, I kinda enjoy it...

The game was very slow running on my end so if it is possible I would love to be able to download the game in case that would help it run better. I also couldn't figure out setting the frequency, it said has to be a number when I put the number in ;-; I'm sure it's me being dumb but I really like the concept and I'm sure it would be fun if I could play it lol

Very impressive, I actually like the joystick signal locator better than in voices of the void. You did a great job with the visual of the screens.  One gripe I had tho was that the output display isn't really communicated properly. I assumed the output would show in the main command terminal instead of the TV on the left. I think some kind of audio from the TV should be added to let the player know where the data is being output. Otherwise a really solid experience, I had a fun time with this one, and yeaa humanity is cooked.

Developer

thanks so much for playing!! i totally agree, we meant to add something like that but ran out of time. glad you enjoyed it!

Submitted

Yo if you got some time to spare I'd appreciate it if you try my game, I'm down bad rn 😭

Submitted(+1)

This looks really cool... unfortunately I just could not figure out how to tune into the frequency. I used the tracker until I got a beep, but I still couldn't get the dials on the left of the terminal to do anything. 🤔

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

ah yea, you might have missed it but this is explained in the terminal by running the `protocol` command, would love for you to give it another try! you have to find the coarse frequency first using the bottom right knob, then you'll see the waveform

Submitted

Yup, I read the protocols and that was the first thing I tried! I think the problem might be the controls... those knobs are very hard for me to turn.

Developer

i wonder if its a mouse sensitivity thing? were you moving the mouse up and down to turn them? we should defo have made it clearer that you have to move the mouse up and down i think

Submitted(+1)

The best project on this game jam so far, but more convenient access to previous logs would be more comfortable to play with. Gets slightly repetitive towards the end of the game, given the limited amount of possible interactions

Developer(+1)

thanks so much! i agree, dealing with the disks get a bit fiddly but we ran out of time to implement a better system for it. and yea i agree, we had plans to build up the complexity of the signal tuning gradually but also ran out of time lol. really glad you liked it so much!!

Submitted(+1)

Interesting gameplay made me thing of Voices of the Void a little if you know that game. Good submission!

Developer(+1)

thanks so much!! haven't played that but will have to check it out. we drew some inspiration from Signal Simulator for the gameplay :))

Submitted

Oh okay I can see the signal simulator derp, Well the machine you work with in voices of the void is similar-ish I think 😅 I could be remembering it wrong.

Submitted(+1)

All the different systems created for this game were pretty cool to see. I thought it was pretty cool messing around with the wave graph.

Developer

thanks so much!! was my first time implementing a dynamic waveform like that, both for the audio and the visual. the relevant code is here if you're curious
