How does your game fit the theme?
Iterophage fits the theme "Loop" by making loops the core of both its gameplay and narrative. Instead of controlling the virus directly, the player defines a repeating logic loop that determines how the virus behaves each iteration. This loop contains actions like attack, defend, and conditions such as if, creating a modular AI system that executes automatically. Each iteration, the virus follows the same instructions until the player modifies the loop, making iteration a key part of strategy and progression. The virus itself becomes an extension of the player’s logic, running in a cycle that evolves over time.

Loved the programming elements. Reminded me of learning on Scratch way back in the day.
I did seem to somehow start with 10k upgrade points, which did make things a little easier haha.
Glad you enjoyed the programming vibe! Scratch was actually a big inspiration for making the logic system intuitive and visual, awesome that it gave you that nostalgic feeling.
the 10k upgrade points was due to a bug of the points not rendering in correctly like 3 minutes before the deadline so we decided not to softlock players and gave them points to experiment with. Thank you :D
very cool sprties bro and the tower defense is fun!
thanks, much appreciated :D
very cool game and a really interesting take on loop, well done.
the only problem points for me are:
> the lack of audio
> the lack of challenge
I feel you could have made the game harder which would have pushed me as a player to interact with the "virus building" more. another issue was of course the amount of starting points (though I did read that you set it that way to avoid a softlock).
overall 4/5.
Heyy thank you for your detailed feedback and thoughts, For audio we actually didnt have enough time to implement it since we were focused on the skill tree and the loop logic most of the time throughout the jam, and for the lack of challenge, that can be easily fixed since i did make a wave generator, so i just have to tweak some variables for each enemy and how many of them can spawn on each waves, and it can get substaintially harder without much effort :P, i think after iteration 8 it starts to pick up the pace since all the enemies are finally allowed to spawn within the game.
Thank you again for this feedback, we will take it into considering when refining and polishing the game post jam!
Love tower defenses and loved the artwork. Was a tad confused about the upgrade menu and points system and is there no sound? Regardless, with just a tad more polish I think you have something on the verge of addicting!
yeah sorry about that, there shouldve been some sort of oneboarding or tutorial for the upgrade menu and point system, and yeah we didnt have enough time to add sounds, its a bummer really because i think SFX's with the VFX's would've elevated the game a bit more. Hopefully after the game jam we will start working on that.
Thank you so much for your kind words :D We will try to make it as addicting as possible ;)
I am so stupid xD I didn't see the text that you don't have to forget to click on CONNECT TO VIRUS. :-D "Save" would have been a more obvious text. :-D
After I found out that you have to press it, the game became fun. Nice concept and good design. I love that you included a skill tree.
Yeah sorry haha, it used to be called save, but i thought that felt like im saving this logic.. you know what, the more i think of it, the better "save" sounds to me. My bad haha, but nonetheless im glad you figured it out and enjoyed the game afterwards :D I really appreciate your feedback :D
im glad you loved the skill tree, it was by far one of the most troublesome to implement :P
really cool game and CONCEPT. a little bit laggy on my laptop tho hehe. Could be use as a fun introduction to code, very well done friend!
Thank you so much, yeah its not very well optimized, neither object pooling nor *good signal handling* or decoupling was actually implemented, and the way i load in my asset files were quite expensive on the CPU, so i am sorry about that, but thank you so much. I agree it feels like a smaller more intuitive version of scratch if polished and put in that genre!
It's really ok and understandable since we only have 4 days, i did not point from my enjoyment ^^
I wish the coding had more impact honestly, it felt there was no reason to put it other than Start() -> Attack(). I might be missing something, if so, please let me know
Definitely has potential though
The way i usually used it was If enemies above 0 then defend else attack, it was a bit better than just attacking
And you're right, since this is a jam entry i wasnt able to add more than just attack and defend, thats why it felt a bit lackluster, so hopefully post jam i will be sure to implement more logic blocks so that they actually make the game more interesting!
Thank you for your feedback!
Really like the game, enjoyed it alot
Im glad you enjoyed the game, thats the reason why i make games, to put smiles on peoples faces, so im glad i was able to do that for you c:
The visual programming behind this was really well done. Are there native features in Godot you were using to accomplish this? I was impressed.
Nice work.
Thank you so much! Godot has a node called GraphEdit, it gives you a grid that you can mess around with, however to make them functional like that, you gotta mess around with ports and how to configure them, overall it was a new learning curve i had to get over. Thank you again :D
I love the atmosphere of the game, and it’s a good implementation of the theme!
Thank you so much :D
GREAT concept, and so perfect for the theme. I liked the little pixel virus and attackers a lot, and I'd love to play this again with the bugs ironed out!
Im glad you liked the pixel virus and attackers :) Thank you so much and hopefully we will do that post jam!
Amazing game. Incredible. A bit similar what we did, but yours is much better.
5 out of 5 out of 5.
I acc would argue that your game did it just as well, if not better, i really enjoyed, i actually stayed 30 minutes playing your game because its such an intuitive idea, but yet its frustrating to figure out how to beat the level (in a good way, i really enjoyed the game!)
Programming loops for a virus is such a sick (pun intended) idea. Good one!
Thank you :P I know right??
Very good concept, good job with the UI, the code editor is really easy to use and understand. The only thing is that I think that what I toggle in the skill tree is not really reflected in the programming section other than attack or defend, like the life regeneration ability. It'd be great if the two systems were a bit more consolidated, but other than that is fantastic and if polished a bit more, It'd make for a good portfolio piece.
Hey, thank you so much for your insight, yes you are right , some of the health wise aspects of the game was under polished and weren’t extensively checked so I probably missed some important stuff that made it not work, but for sure I’ll make sure that I’ll fix them after the game jam.
Oh wow I’m glad you believe in the potential in this game! Thank you again for your feedback and your kind words :D
yippee another coding loop game !!
I really liked the direction it was going but i felt like i did not understand the concept of some blocks, or how to use them effectively.
Great job overall for the game tho
(I like the "few" points you gave us lol)
Haha, yeah the points was because we had a minor bug where the points weren’t rendering so I hard coded some points for the player , keyword “some”.
for that we plan on making a tutorial so that it becomes more intuitive on how to play the game
Thank you So much for your feedback, we appreciate it :)
This got some banger concept here, the idea of coding your own virus is so sick. The execution could be better tho, like introducing one type of node each wave and encouraging to use it by the specific enemy behavior.
Hey thanks for the feedback, actually that was going to be the plan but due to the lack of time , I decided to just give access to everything I made so far so that they can try it out and enjoy, the logic nodes were going to be unlockable through the upgrade tree through the utilities path, hopefully after the game jam we will refine the game so that it’s more enjoyable for the player
thank you again for your nice comments :)
This is really cool! The starting amount of upgrade coins might be a bit too high 😅
But in overall I enjoyed the loop a lot! Well done :D
Haha, I love how everyone's commenting about the starting amount, unfortunately for that, we had a bug that wasnt rending the points correctly like 3 minutes before the deadline, so we opted to giving more than enough points rather than no points so that you dont get soft locked.
I'm glad regardless that you enjoyed the game, and thank you for your kind words :D
I think it’s even funnier this way :D Some sounds would be nice, but the programming part is hella impressive, I have no idea how you managed to fit that in 4 days
I totally agree some SFX would’ve been amazing to add to the feel of the game , and thank you so much for the compliment, we actually had a late start so it was more like 2-3 days haha.
Thank you again :3
Oh, a tower/base defense that includes node graph behaviour customization. I was expecting to see a couple more Action nodes but it is expected to be like this for a jam project.
Super cool project, keep up the good work <3
Yeah, i really tried to add more stuff, but due to the late start (2 days) and the lack of time, i was only able to do attack and defend, i was trying to implement replicate and splitting, stuff like that, I had 10 ideas in mind, but nonetheless, thank you for your nice comment and feedback, hopefully after the jam i will make it more polished and add more interactions, for it to actually feel like you're controlling the virus
Growing my own super virus, epic!
Nice game, but please add sounds. It would make the game way better.
yes, im planning on it after the jam hopefully
