Which Theme did you choose?

Dark Streets

How did you implement your chosen Theme in your game?
As your apartment mysteriously gets smaller and smaller, an opening appears in the wall. You set out to explore the space that defies reality and by any measure of common sense shouldn't be there.

Did you implement any of your Theme's Bonus Challenges, and if so, which ones?
Urban horror: the game takes place in locations that mirror the underbelly of a city: empty abandoned mall, underground communications tunnels.

This was.... so awesome and trippy.

I have no notes, other than I loved it. This was so cool to play through!
Keep making games :)

Developer

Thanks!
I sure will!

Really loved this! The atmosphere was super tense and eerie, and the visuals had such a strange, surreal charm to them. The flashlight effect, the narrow spaces, and that constant uneasy feeling while exploring... everything worked together so well. I was fully hooked the whole time.

Incredible job on this one. Would love if you could check out mine too when you get the chance!

What a great game. First I thought it’s a clever horror game that takes place in one room, but then it unfold to so much more. Love it!

The only thing that I did not understood was the switch puzzle. I had the feeling I brute-forced it. ;)

Developer(+1)

You're completely right, the switch puzzle is only solvable by brute force, and it's entirely my fault, it was supposed to have an indicator with an arrow that would show how much power you're drawing so that you'd be able to make an informed decision. Implementing the thing entirely slipped my mind as I was haphazardly finishing up my environments. Thank you for playing the game and for beating it despite such nonsense :)

A genuinely unsettling experience! Great work

Wow, I really enjoyed playing this game! It was very well executed, and the levels were very well designed. I loved the detail in all the items and books you can find throughout the game. I did encounter a couple of bugs. I got stuck in a wall after the lights went out for the first time, and during my second attempt, the phone never rang. However, despite these minor bugs, the game was extremely polished overall. Great work! This is my favorite entry I’ve tried so far!

Yes, collisions are very wonky and event scripts in the beginning sometimes just don't work. The way scripted events are currently laid out, is that the next event is sometimes tied to closing the dialogue box of the previous event. And player might click through the dialogue really fast, before the callback is even registered. Now I understand why this was a really bad idea.

Wow wasn't expecting this! Creepy experience and well executed

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!

Reading the note felt really impressive to me since I can flip pages but one thing that bothered me was the constant phone ring when I'm reading the note. Just wish that sound was off until I was done reading the note.

I love how I can wash my hands and shower in the bathroom but I thought I was going to get a cutscene of it but I guess a black screen just works better due to the lack of time in the jam to get that up and running and also when other mechanics were more important to focus on.

I also love the room design and interactable objects as well. But I did get stuck in the area after getting out of the room after collecting 2 batteries, I can't move for some reason when I try to get out.

Developer(+1)

Animations on interactions would've been great, but that's just too much work, and I'm not really good at animating humanoid rigs. And sorry about collision bugs.
Thank you for playing!

interesting enemy design, haven't seen anything like it before but I like it, also the map design is really good, but there is one bug I found is that you can walk through walls apparently, but overall good game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!
Making proper collision is my arch nemesis.

I liked how you build onto the tension from the first level to then moving to the next area of the map felt awesome to me. Overall i enjoyed the concept of the theme

So I tried your game, but it wasn’t really clear to me what to do when the lights went out. I picked up the torch, but I couldn’t interact with anything  not even the butterfly.

That said, what I saw looked really cool! Nice little game.

Developer

Thank you for playing!
I'm sorry if the game feels too ambiguous. After the lights go out, you have to make a phone call. After that, the game continues forward.

I really enjoyed the game! It was super cool what you did with the enemies’ visuals ... very creative and unique. It took me a little while to fully understand the concept, but once I did, it all came together nicely. I did notice a bit of lag at the very start while still in the first room, but everything ran smoothly once I stepped outside. I'm guessing that was just a browser thing. Overall, great work! 👏

Developer

Yes, browser version has a lot of shader compilation stutter. It's somewhat less noticeable on desktop versions.

That was unsettling... awesome job! Loved the selected bits in the books to build up the tension and theme as well.

Developer

It's good to know somebody actually stopped to read. The whole time I was writing it I thought 0% of the players would give a second to read the stuff.
Thank you for playing!

This was a really clever concept.  It took me a while to figure out what I needed to do, but that was part of the anxiety building.  Nice job.

Lol love this. The movemnt is so clean I feel like this is 100 percent going to be a speedrun game. Really awesome monster design feels like they came right out of some Silent Hill game. Was a bit confused what I had to do but with a little bit of polish, maybe some subtle yellow paint *wink* *wink*. Like I didnt really understand why did I have to do the fuse box or collect these items or do the suitcase puzzle cause I feel like I could've just ran twards the exit and thats it. All of that said its short and sweet. Definatly one of the more fun ones!

Could you help a brother out and try out my game + tell me your opinion on it? Really struggling out here :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing!
I understand that the progression in the game and "puzzles" might be a bit obtuse. I'm generally very bad at coming up with good puzzles, this is definitely something I have to work on.
I've played your game, Out of Order, and left a rating and a comment!

Consider polishing the game after the jam ends and see where that could lead.. Instead of throwing it away. This is a very well crafted tamplate for a really good game.

Okay first of all.... Brilliant atmosphere, that room, the phone ringing the door knocking lol sounds silly but those little details add a lot, then the lights out and that ... moth thing oh lord don't want to spoil but damn, for a lovecraftian fan that descent into hell was glorious, sadly on the web version I got booted to desktop once I crouched near the desk, so I downloaded the game got stuck a few times meaning I had to restart the game from scratch too bad there isn't a save option, the story is super compelling, but now I was on the "mall" went through one place and the game reset? like the objects I got for the suitcase weren't there anymore and the "body thing" was again stuck up there even after I had previously removed it.
In conclusion, super compelling story and the atmosphere is perfect for a horror story, very well done!

Developer(+1)

Sorry about the bugs.
Yeah, the level state completely resets if you leave it and enter again. But you can still collect the items, even the ones you got before, so it shouldn't really kill the progression, I think. Didn't come to mind to actually test this scenario myself.
Thank you for playing and for your feedback! It means a lot to me.

Submitted(+1)

Even with the bugs, totally worth to play, very well done!

Good job, game kept dropping to 5 FPS for my poor laptop ;-; but the game has really nice sound and map design, and a lot of disturbing visuals, The monster's visuals are interesting never seen anything like it before and it's good, maybe If it was faster it would be more threatening but it's pretty good for what it is, I found some bugs, like I fell out of the map once, and sometimes could walk through a wall, but other than that, it's impressive, though I wish I knew a bit more to the story but my device says otherwise.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Sorry about the optimization. I didn't do much at all within the time frame, and web builds in Godot don't even allow you to use occlusion culling. I'm really glad you played it, thanks a lot!

Submitted(+1)

Very cool! I unfortunately fell out of the map :D. Would be nice to have a reset when OOBing. Though was so hooked by the game until it happened. Though story is awesome!

Oh hell sorry that happened. Yeah, teleport when out of bounds would've been a simple solution, I should've thought of that.
