Description
This is a soundtrack to a zombie FPS titled "VILEHEART". You play as a DJ who's playing at a massive music festival on a remote desert island... and then the zombie apocalypse strikes. The goal is to massacre every last Vile zombie on the island, and make it off the island in one piece.

Each track represents the following:
VENUE - Main Menu
VILE - Battle Theme
VITALIZE - Save Point
VANGUARD - Boss I
VISCERA - Boss II
VULCAN - Boss III
VALIANT - Results Screen

Message from the artist
I checked the picture theme because Itch wasn't letting me submit with just the "Freedom" box checked. To be clear, I did not use the picture theme as my inspiration for this OST, my chosen theme was "Freedom", so please judge based on that.

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The player character's singular goal is to achieve a physical freedom from the island, and freedom from the nightmare of the zombie apocalypse.

11 minutes of pure madness...

VENUE - Bro... POWERFUL TECHNO! The very beginning - and I really want to run and turn this on somewhere in a club...

VILE - Someone is very angry... And there are many of them? In any case - watch out! I will destroy them all!

VITALIZE - Something that is simultaneously pumping and calm... Sloshing percussion, that's what I definitely love about this track!

VANGUARD - BASS! BREAKCORE! ACTION! ROCK! WAH!

VISCERA - Damn... okay... this track sounds even more epic and dynamic... And this sharp rise of classical instruments in the general tandem of electric madness... Wah!

VULCAN - Skrillex decided to become a miner...

VALIANT - Sounds like the most beautiful screen theme...

In general... bro. Every track here is a fucking banger! Honestly, I'll be very surprised if you don't take high positions in the overall rating, because this is a VERY high-quality work. The mixing is fire!

Awesome very cool project

This is was so cool! Definitely wasn't expecting a zombie survival theme. The sheer amount of music created in this short amount of time with this quality is insane! I think you captured the feel you were going for really well, i love the intense high energy feel this whole soundtrack has. My favorites were VILE and VITALIZE. I think my only criticism is the leitmotif melody that kept popping up, to me it felt like its the main melody for most of the songs when in my opinion it should be used a little more carefully so it's something fun to recognize and doesn't end up getting stale.  amazing work though this was incredible!

As an electro amateur I love the whole OST, all the variety of genres, and that's a lot of music for 48h ! The mixing is also really good. Very good OST for real ! The only thing is the theme correlation, It's about someone trying to leave a zombie infested island, but the music itself is not really about freedom in my opinion. Really nice job anyway !!

Really, really, really killer soundtrack! Great work, Vulcan has a SICK beat drop. Keep it up!

Tense, contemporary club music but with the mood to match the situation. Some of these aren't my cup of tea, but if this were a game - if the MC was written with the right personality, the right action, right visual style and level design? I can kinda see it. You have one long night of trying to get you and your gear out of there. Pretty good!

Deep down, I always knew that seagulls would destroy the world

The whole soundtrack is a bop. The themes are re-used nicely throughout, though I really love how you hyped up the battle theme into the boss themes. Boss III was a wild change of pace and really helped keep things interesting. Overall, solid soundtrack that was a fun listen!

EDM production go brrr — being able to represent a variety of atmospheres in a videogame soundtrack is important, and you did that extremely well while sticking to a strict electronic genre selection and palette!! i personally love hearing harder electronic sounds in videogames, so i give this brownie points :3c

regarding my earlier points, i'm drawn to "VITALIZE" because of how it carries a calmer pace while maintaining the tension of the videogame's setting with, again, the music genre and also the motifs. overall, i'm genuinely amazed at how you were able to compose AND mix everything well within this jam's timeframe.

I love the synths on this, especially the agressive basses, I have to learn how to make those. I could definitely hear this in a fast-paced FPS, makes you very pumped up. Cool that you use Vital and kHs quite often! (I mostly use Helm instead which is kinda the predecessor of Vital made by the same guy). The second half of VILE is FIRE, gives me ULTRAKILL vibes with that amen break and the bass that goes baw baw. VANGUARD is too extreme in my opinion (I think it's gabber?) , even though I liked the hi hat panning around.

Really killer soundtrack! Love the usage of that main motif throughout. Really great amount of polish on the mixing and production, especially given the 48 hour timeframe. I'm not sure how much the music evokes the 'Freedom' theme for me, but that zombie apocalypse vibe felt very effectively established! Impressed that you were able to get all of this done for the jam, awesome stuff!

I think the most impressive thing about this soundtrack is how well-mixed it is in such a short time. Incredibly impressive. Motivic development is excellent throughout as well. Just a great listen overall. Great job!

Developer

happy to hear the mixing sounded good to you, that was the part that i feel i may have cut corners on the most in developing this so quick.  thank you!

Holy... you cooked so damn hard here, and all in one day too, sheesh. Really loved this one, hoping you win

Developer

thank you! hoping for a good result myself too lol but there are plenty of submissions out there deserving of the win

it's really quite impressive how you made pretty much a fully completed OST in such a short amount of time, and with this quality to boot. I love how every boss theme has a different feel to them, almost giving them a sort personality. Fantastic Job!

Developer

ty! happy to hear the boss themes conveyed personality in that way to you, definitely part of my hope lol

Darn, good stuff! Honestly not much to say, just keep calm, point at the head, and rave on! Okay the hardstyle/uptempo one caught me unprepared hahaha really nice work imbuing these dance tracks with sophisticated harmonic compositions.

Developer

ty, the hardstyle one was a lot of fun to make!

absolutely love the dnb, SO good. Especially the drum tracks, lots to learn for me here. Your production is stellar and I can totally visualise the aesthetics of this "game"!

Developer

happy to hear you liked the dnb and the drumwork so much!  definitely the dnb was the toughest for me to nail so it's good so many people seem to enjoy that one

FIRE!!! I need more! Keep up the amazing work!

Developer

ngl found myself actually dancing in my chair to this OST lol, amazing stuff. If I was playing this game i would for sure turn SFX to bump to the tunes, also i appreciate the tracks actually looping as if they were in game!
I like VISCERA a lot lot, your dnb style is so kewl.

And I don't know why but this OST really does scream zombie outbreak

you should be composing for actual proper games and I wouldn't doubt if you already are

Developer(+1)

haha appreciate it!  i'm not super established as a game composer yet but i have done work for at least one pretty cool title and i'm active in vgm remixing circles.

That bass is punchy as all helll. Really amazing work all throughout, and I'm glad the leitmotif established in VENUE persisted all throughout. I have no real comments, everything was breathtaking. Incredible how this was made in only 48 hours!

Developer(+1)

thank you! i love using leitmotifs lol
