Description
This is a soundtrack to a zombie FPS titled "VILEHEART". You play as a DJ who's playing at a massive music festival on a remote desert island... and then the zombie apocalypse strikes. The goal is to massacre every last Vile zombie on the island, and make it off the island in one piece.

Each track represents the following:
VENUE - Main Menu
VILE - Battle Theme
VITALIZE - Save Point
VANGUARD - Boss I
VISCERA - Boss II
VULCAN - Boss III
VALIANT - Results Screen

Message from the artist
I checked the picture theme because Itch wasn't letting me submit with just the "Freedom" box checked. To be clear, I did not use the picture theme as my inspiration for this OST, my chosen theme was "Freedom", so please judge based on that.

Theme

Freedom
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The player character's singular goal is to achieve a physical freedom from the island, and freedom from the nightmare of the zombie apocalypse.

Really killer soundtrack! Love the usage of that main motif throughout. Really great amount of polish on the mixing and production, especially given the 48 hour timeframe. I'm not sure how much the music evokes the 'Freedom' theme for me, but that zombie apocalypse vibe felt very effectively established! Impressed that you were able to get all of this done for the jam, awesome stuff!

I think the most impressive thing about this soundtrack is how well-mixed it is in such a short time. Incredibly impressive. Motivic development is excellent throughout as well. Just a great listen overall. Great job!

Developer

happy to hear the mixing sounded good to you, that was the part that i feel i may have cut corners on the most in developing this so quick.  thank you!

Holy... you cooked so damn hard here, and all in one day too, sheesh. Really loved this one, hoping you win

Developer

thank you! hoping for a good result myself too lol but there are plenty of submissions out there deserving of the win

Submitted(+1)

it's really quite impressive how you made pretty much a fully completed OST in such a short amount of time, and with this quality to boot. I love how every boss theme has a different feel to them, almost giving them a sort personality. Fantastic Job!

Developer

ty! happy to hear the boss themes conveyed personality in that way to you, definitely part of my hope lol

Great stuff. Nice use of motifs.

Developer(+1)

ty!!

Darn, good stuff! Honestly not much to say, just keep calm, point at the head, and rave on! Okay the hardstyle/uptempo one caught me unprepared hahaha really nice work imbuing these dance tracks with sophisticated harmonic compositions.

Developer

ty, the hardstyle one was a lot of fun to make!

absolutely love the dnb, SO good. Especially the drum tracks, lots to learn for me here. Your production is stellar and I can totally visualise the aesthetics of this "game"!

Developer

happy to hear you liked the dnb and the drumwork so much!  definitely the dnb was the toughest for me to nail so it's good so many people seem to enjoy that one

FIRE!!! I need more! Keep up the amazing work!

ngl found myself actually dancing in my chair to this OST lol, amazing stuff. If I was playing this game i would for sure turn SFX to bump to the tunes, also i appreciate the tracks actually looping as if they were in game!
I like VISCERA a lot lot, your dnb style is so kewl.

And I don't know why but this OST really does scream zombie outbreak

you should be composing for actual proper games and I wouldn't doubt if you already are

Developer(+1)

haha appreciate it!  i'm not super established as a game composer yet but i have done work for at least one pretty cool title and i'm active in vgm remixing circles.

Submitted(+1)

That bass is punchy as all helll. Really amazing work all throughout, and I'm glad the leitmotif established in VENUE persisted all throughout. I have no real comments, everything was breathtaking. Incredible how this was made in only 48 hours!

Developer(+1)

thank you! i love using leitmotifs lol

Submitted(+1)

I love how even though 'VITALIZE' is supposed to be the save point track it still keeps the pace high so that the player doesn't get too relaxed!

All tracks are super fun to listen to and very intense, my favorite is probably 'VULCAN', especially the part where the strings and synth have a call and response! Also liked how you so easily incorporated the main motif throughout each track!

Great work!

Developer(+1)

tysm, i love these observations... you clocked my intention with vitalize, to keep you on your toes a bit; and the call and response in vulcan is probably my favorite part in that track lol

Submitted(+1)

Yo this is so sick!!! Each track is a banger imo, it a lot more melodic than I expected it(in a good way) It was so much fun listening to the whole soundtrack, I could for sure imagine just mowing down mobs of zombies to this!

Developer

ty! yeah i always strive for my work to be more on the melodic side, but i did stray away from it a bit with the riddim track haha

Submitted(+1)

Some of these tracks are giving me early Teminite vibes which evokes a good nostalgia from me. It's insane that you made so many tracks within 48 hours, so kudos!

Developer

honored by that comparison lol, ty!

Submitted(+1)

Wow! I love the soundtrack to VVVVVVV!

That of course referring to: Venue, Vile, Vitalize, Vanguard, Viscera, Vulcan, and Valiant!

Once again, a very very great entry from Monochrome media! Though I don't think it fits the theming all too well. The entire soundtrack is a banger. Even though some of the tracks aren't my favorite style of music, It is still fantastically made!

Developer(+1)

can't believe i scored the hit indie game VVVVVVV holy

appreciate the kind words, to your point of theming i do wish i had a track in there that sort of tied the freedom theme into the soundtrack a bit more clearly, maybe with something a bit more uplifting as a credits track.  just didn't have time sadly, but i think what i managed does do the job.

and yeah, honestly the music i made isn't even my favorite style of music LOL i just wanted to challenge myself.  happy you still appreciate the work that went into it!

Submitted(+1)

The tonal switches, the super clean mixes, the overall moody atmosphere, the leitmotifs, the consistency in quality, the sheer amount of music and 48 hours... Dang. This is insane. Favorite has to be VILE for me, but that's only by a small margin against all your other bangers.

Developer

tysm! i was really rushing towards the end and i was worried it'd show in the music.  doesn't seem to be too much the case!

 Epic !

absolutely INSANE submission!! i really love the continual usage of the motif throughout the entire OST and how you spin it around depending on the tracks! phenomenal quality/mixing as well but that's to be expected :D

my favorite has got to be VISCERA or even VULCAN, these having the strongest compositions in my personal opinion and were an absolute delight to listen to. i also really appreciate the transition from spooky to spooky-but-also-holy-banger in VENUE! got me super pumped when i first listened LOL

incredible work all around!!!!! ❤❤❤🎇

Developer(+1)

thank you carrot!! i've already told you in dms but this idea was very much inspired by the work you did on the steam-powered melody machine and it doesn't exist without that.

and ty for the banger art!

Submitted(+1)

Execution on this is incredibly tight, and 11 minutes total to boot? Incredible work!

Blown away by the thought and how apt the artwork is for the concept and the music. I feel like I can envision this game playing in my head, which is something incredibly rare for me personally.  Mixing throughout is really solid and the variety of leading voices and patches here is really well thought out. Each track feels distinct while all still gelling together to fit within the grander scheme of what the game is about. The sound design throughout is nothing short of phenomenal as well.

My favorite of the bunch is either VISCERA or the latter half of the Battle Theme - both scratch just the right part of my brain, and the latter gives me intense Hotline Miami and The Textorcist vibes. Incredible execution as a whole, this may well be the strongest submission I've come across so far in terms of execution of theme and music.

Developer(+1)

that's awesome to hear! yeah carrot really killed it on the artwork. glad to hear you were able to envision the game too, that tells me the suffering i went through paid off lmao

latter half of the battle theme definitely makes for one of my personal favorites from the soundtrack too!

Submitted(+1)

You killed it! Definitely one of the best thematic executions as I said before. Feels like the audio and visuals come together seamlessly in my mind while listening to it. Great work. :)

Submitted(+1)

From that first EQ shift in the opening track I knew I was going to vibe with this project LOL

Love how the character's identity as a DJ is very well represented in your musical style, really ties everything together. Not to mention the beats are sick! Especially loving the bridge in the battle theme and the drop in Viscera.

Developer

ty, happy to hear it! the dj character was pretty much an excuse for me to make whatever edm i felt like haha
