Very cool game! It can be really hard but probably I’m just too greedy. :D

I played the tutorial twice because at first I did not get that the explosion of the enemy is scripted (and that it wasn’t my error).

Very fun! The tutorial moves a bit too fast though, and it should pause the gameplay

This game is awesome! I love the art style and gameplay.

Extremely impressive for a game jam! Honestly feels like it could actually be a game from like the PSP or something. Very interesting mechanics that definitely put pressure on the player with some interesting ideas.

I do think that being realtime, while very stressful in a kind of interesting way, makes it way too difficult to properly engage with the mechanics and part synergies though. Would be interesting to see a turn-based or similar version of this system.

Excellent work!

Really cool game! Impressive work for just 1 week! I like the art style a lot it looks great. The gameplay is fun it's a cool idea and I like these kind of inventory management games. The auto battling is a lot of fun too, really cool mix of mechanics in the game. I think maybe some kind of indicator that the enemy is close to dying like a flashing health bar or something would help a bit cuz I kept killing myself due to not having a part in them when I killed them. I'd also like the enemy health bar to be above the enemy sprite, the boss enemies cover their health bar and it's hard to tell what their health is at. Great work on the game tho, I really enjoyed it!

Developer

Thank you for playing! It was very interesting to see your playing experience on stream! (By the way, there are 3 bosses, but you died on the second one, because of the Burn, which returns some of your attack damage to you).

We are working on the full version of the game (Several characters, grids of different shapes, balancing the old parts and making new ones, fixing bugs, and some visual reminders for more intuitive gameplay!), so it’s good to take all of the feedback into account!

I didn't really understand the explosions for a while, I kept dying not understanding why. Turns out I killed the enemy while I was trying to swap parts out, I guess I'm just too good at this game B). It would be nice to be able to swap parts of the same type in-place so I don't have to drop them and worry about losing my junk that would be helpful later.

Overall nicely polished!

Developer

Thank you! Yes, we’ve already been advised to do that. Even during the jam, we wanted to implement such a mechanic, but I think it would have taken a lot of time, and we didn’t have much of it.

The intro gave me super strong Newgrounds vibes. In fact, the art style reminded me of earlier games by Edmund McMillen, specifically, Super Meat Boy.
It was very fun experimenting with parts, and doing some wacky stuff, like pulling the module that gives the enemy +ATK right before it attacks, and then placing it back in place. I got past, like, 3 bosses, and then the game got pretty hard. It's very easy to accidentally lose some scrap at the end of the battle and then on the next one you don't really have any junk to spare to plug in the holes in the enemy before it explodes. But that's probably just the skill issue.
I'm floored by how polished this looks, from intro cutscene, to screen transition effects, to animations in the main menu - everything looks and feels great!

Thank you very much! I’m really glad you enjoyed playing our game. After the final boss, there was supposed to be an ending sequence that would show this(but if I’m not mistaken, it doesn’t work in the final build):image.png

This is really fun! I was a bit confused by the whole explosion mechanic for a little while, perhaps it could have been explained better but otherwise really cool

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Yes, I think making the game more beginner-friendly would have been a good idea, but it’s too late now =]

Realtime backpack hero? Was very cool and fun, though also difficult. Really enjoyed this title, thanks for the experience.

Thank you! I guess start cutscene and graphics in general have those feels...

Very well polished. Professional quality. Beautiful game. Maybe a bit too challenging for me.

The explosion mechanic seems very hard. Or I'm missing something fundamental.

If I grab a big part from them, I never have enough time to fill the slots before dying. Is that by design? Are we not supposed to grab big parts?

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing! I’m sorry that you had problems with the explosion mechanic. When we tested the game, we were managing to get the big parts in 10 seconds. I would prepare your parts that you want to change for enemy’s parts on the ground near the enemy’s grid, then quickly insert enemy’s part in your grid, and try to quickly fill the empty cells in the enemy’s grid with the parts, that are lying on the ground. I think, you’ll get the hang of it, if you try a bit more! (But only if you want to)

Insane levels of polish here, nice! Even in the tutorial  icouldn't figure out how to stop the bomb... I put everything I could into the enemy and it still blew up!

Developer

Thank you! Tutorial is supposed to end there, and you can't stop the explosion.

That's good to know. I just about ragequit.

Interesting game and mechanics, the game is very polished, the art & music, just a bit hard to get it at first.

This game is fantastic for such a short game jam. I pretty much liked everything and enjoyed my time with it.
I will instead focus this review on the few things that could be better:

-Audio starting at 100 is not a good idea for web games.
-As pointed out in other comments, enemies can still act and attack you while you read the tutorial popups.
-The music is great, however the tune felt a bit too repetitive.

Other than that, lovely idea and execution. I can see this one potentially winning. Great job!

Developer

Thank you very much! Yeah, I agree with those things, I'll take them into account.

Developer

Thanks!

WOWZA~! The level of polish on the art and sound is incredible. Style reminds me of old-school indies like Super Meatboy and The Binding of Isaac. I will say though, I found it still pretty difficult to understand, I was unable to use 100% of brain to understand like good strategy. A couple of nitpicks:

1) During the tutorial, the enemies would still attack you, or sound like they're attacking you when you are reading. Also, I would end up dying in the tutorial and it would fully take me back to the menu where I had to restart it due to bomb guy.

2) There was a comment about adding a "'Fill the empty slot to stop the bomb!' label or ui text" I kind of agree with it, I feel like something needs to be there cuz I did not understand what I needed to do there, even with the tutorial (I was being very dumb so I can't really blame y'all on that lol).

3) The intro cutscene is unskippable at the beginning I think, I love the exposition and time y'all put into it, but would've appreciated some sort of ability to skip it if that isn't a feature yet.

Again, nitpicks I'm making here. Solid game y'all got.

- S.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, I agree, in the tutorial we should have done that. About the second one, personally, I think it would good for the start, but a bit annoying later into the game (plus it was explained in the tutorial). Intro cutscene is unskippable on the first time you open the game, but later you can just press any key to skip it.

Thanks =]

The art and music are super good! The game is very polished and enjoyable. It would be nice if the gameplay would pause when a tutorial window is on the screen :)

Developer

Thank you for playing our game! Yes, I think it would have been worth doing, but unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time :]
