Nice art fun gameplay. Movement is a bit clunky. Sometimes the character wouldn't jump. Also a variable jump height is neccessary for any platformer imo.

I liked the concept of it, though I felt exploring was punishing to the player, as I frequently found myself being killed by water I couldn't know was there from leaps of faith.
I like the mechanics of the game but just like what the other comments say the jump needs to be fixed.
A great game in a game jam of mediocrity. All the games minus this one I have played insofar for this jam have been fairly subpar, to be honest. This is the first of them that is truly a great and interesting game. If only there weren't the sticky controls then it would be near perfect. Either way, great job!
Unique game with a unique mechanic! sometimes the jumping didn't work, and some levels were a bit frustrating because of that, but this game has HUUGE potential! I am very excited to see what else you can do with this if you decide to improve upon it in the future! Overall, this game is fun, and is something else to play! (Hey, I might even use this sort of idea! Is that okay?)
Interesting main mechanic here. Just the jumping was a bit unresponsive. Maybe because of a lower framerate, but it the best. The overall game was okay tho.
Thanks for the feedback! As you might've seen, the inconsistent jumping mechanic is definitely the biggest issue people are having. I'm definitely going to test the build versions instead of just relying on the Unity editor as it seems the differences are quite extreme. Was the framerate tanking for you? Like below 60fps?
Gotta say, I usually hate darkness as a game mechanic, but here it works so well. The fact that the room remains lit up after death is great, love the platforming, the charming art, and I thought the music fit really well with the game! Great job!
Please consider playing and rating my game if you can :)
Nice game! The idea was really cool - uncovering more of the map with each candle is pretty unique. The graphics look pretty good, too!
Although, one of my biggest problems with the gameplay was the jumping. I know Demindiro already pointed it out, and maybe it was just in the web version, but I was getting really frustrated with the tight platforming. Often I would press jump, and there would be a sound and an animation but no actual movement. Unfortunately, it led to many unfair deaths.
However, I really liked the music and the darkness was well implemented. Good work!
Amazing game! Exploring the room with each try is especially creative!
The jumping is incredibly frustrating though, it often does nothing at all (even though the sound plays) and the height is inconsistent too (sometimes I jump up to 4 tiles, sometimes 3 or less). This makes it hard to complete the more time-sensitive levels.
The music is a bit too epic, which makes it distracting. I’m not a fan of the jump sound either as it hurts my ears a little (but that’s just my preference).
Hey, thanks for playing! Yeah...I definitely messed up on the jumping part. You're only supposed to be able to jump up to a platform that's 3 blocks above the level you're standing on so I'll definitely look into that. In retrospect, I can definitely see how the sounds weren't quite right. Thanks for the feedback!
The visuals are great, I love the level revealing mechanic, very interesting and fun level design!
I really liked the look of the game! That unique, tile based darkness reveal style was really satisfying. and worked really well. The trick level with the tricky climbing made me laugh :D
I'd say if you made the jumping a little less floaty it would help the experience (but that's just a personal preference). Love the level design, nice job!

Haha I'm glad you enjoyed it! I wasn't sure if people were going to fall for the false climbing level but it makes me happy to hear that you got to experience it! Also, thanks for the suggestion. It is definitely not just you as I somehow totally forgot about varying the jump height with how long you hold the button. Anyway, thanks for playing!
A game in wich you can play a candle? The idea ist brilliant and it fits the topic perfectly. I like how you can uncover the level bit by bit, in order to get to the goal.
Looks really really nice! Gameplay is tight. A couple minor details would be that when you jump but are touching a wall it feels like there is some friction there that is a tiny bit frustrating.
Another game did a similar concept but death packs more of a kick, I think that type of feel/crunch/juice would help this so that fading out the flame doesn't quite feel frustrating but more so almost enjoyable to watch when it happens. Probably something that would require more time though.
Hi, thanks so much for your feedback! For the friction on the jump, are you referring to how there's like a little bit of pushback? As for the death, I agree it definitely feels a bit weak. I'll keep that in mind. Do you remember the title of the game you're referring to? I would love to go and see how to improve the death animation. Thanks for playing!
I think it was this game https://itch.io/jam/wowie-jam-3/rate/939105
As for pushback, no I meant more so that jumping while touching a wall felt like you wouldn't jump as high, I can't remember exactly. Maybe it wasn't the case.
Interesting concept, playing around with player visibility as a central mechanic; but also requiring failure as a means to reconnoitre the layout. Nicely presented, too!
This game feels very polished, maybe the music is a little to epic, but only a little
This is my favorite game so far (still have a lot more to play). The only problem is that the jump sometimes doesn't seem to work for me but maybe I'm just bad at the game.
This game looks really cool and has a very cool game mechanic but I’m not sure how it’s related to the theme “failure is progress” Other than that i like it!
This feels very polished. I like the core mechanics of it, it fits the theme well and is fun to play. Good job making this game!
