Very interesting game! I can see the potential for a full murder mystery game here! The art palette also reminds me a lot of the Layton games. Other than that, I have just two suggestions. One is to make it so that perhaps there's a log of what each person says-- it's a bit difficult to try to remember what everyone said at the moment. The second is to perhaps make it so that each person looks like their description. I know that it couldn't have been done in the span of the jam, but if you ever revisit this, I think it would be a worthwhile change! Other than that, pretty solid! If you have the time, I'd appreciate it if you could also play my game!

Developer

Thx for the usefull suggestions and to play the game. We will definetly look into all these things while updating the game.

Clever murder mystery game!  Unique interpretation of the focus and theme.  I see a lot of fun potential!  A pretty art style and satisfying whoosh audio sounds for possession.  Clever use with the limited moves.

My Suggestions:
-Maybe you can add physical murder clues to some of the tiles - like "brown hair" or a murder weapon related to a persons job?   Make it only pick-usable by the sheriff?  That would force a little more movement!
- Possibly include a UI list of all the things people have said to you so you can compare answers and notes?  I assume you want some of a memory aspect to the game, but maybe this could be an "Easy Mode" choice

Overall really fun!  I love murder mysteries and can't wait to see what else you do with this.

That art was amazing. Couple of weird things happened though, I wasn't able to accuse even though I was sure I knew who it was. I don't want to spoil for anyone so if you haven't played don't read this part yet. Firstly I had two Bruces who had very similar stats and the same exact character model which was kind of a pain but I knew which one it was. It was funny because one of my first clues was, "I ONLY KNOW HIS NAME, BRUCE!" then the next was his height, and weight so I had the guy nailed but it never let me accuse him. I exhausted all options, I moved every character all over until I couldn't do anything else. So although I didn't "win" with a win condition I know I got the right guy! Clever use of jam guidelines by collecting information. Something like this further developed could be very interesting!

yeah I think it wasn't the best idea to set a step Cap for the sheriff to that has to be the reason why you couldn't accuse anymore.

And btw no spoilers were given every time there are new stats new killer new sheriff because it's all randomly generated except the tiles that you can walk on. Thx for trying the game to, I am glad you enjoyed it

Fun idea, I played it twice and found the murderer once. I think creating duplicate names is a little bit confusing when you try to talk to someone whose name is correct but it's still the wrong person.

Developer

yeah I understand the confusion I should have made a marker to show which one it was, thx for the feedback

This is a really cool idea for a game i'd personally enjoy playing, but i think i got stuck cause of a bug, i couldn't possess the sheriff to accuse. Really like the art style and everything else about the game tho! I can kinda understand the collectable thing, collecting information or something along those lines, but I'm not sure how 'There and back' fits into this though, enlighten me please so I can give it a better rating.

Developer(+1)

the idea for there and back was that you were there as your soul to find your murdered and if you found and accused him that you could go back and RIP at your grave. But sadly enough we couldn't get the Grave in place anymore

Hey, artist here, i'm glad you liked the art because I didn't have much free time to work on the jam. For me it was not only the grave but also the game mechanic that fitted the "there and back" theme. You posses someone and if your steps exhaust you go go back to your ghost form. The character that you left should also die(but we didn't implement that yet) and you would lose the info you could get from that npc. We had a lot more planned but we were all pretty busy in real life so yea this is what we had at the end :)!

I love that this game is both simple and complicated in the way that it's presented.
I like the constraint of who you can go talk to depending on who you possesed and the info they give.
I think I'll need a notepad next time though since it's hard to just memorize who said what and stuff. The art style is nice but could be more consistent in its looks. If you ever expand on this idea it would be nice if new things get introduced later in the game so it stay's fresh. Maybe a new type of character to posses like a spy that can pry info out of someone or somehting.

overall very nicely done!

Developer

thx for enjoying the game love the feedback it is definetly planned to release an update on this game

I really liked the style and artwork. Apart from a few things it feels like a very polished game already.

Thanks :D!

Nice murder mystery game! I love the preferences per person and their different stats, really good work. I just seem to be a bad sherif haha. One thing I would add is a notebook type thing that stores different accounts from different people which would help you identify who has false info and who i the murderer. Great jam game, very impressive work for one week!

Developer(+1)

I am glad you enjoyed the game. We will definetly look into that when we would update the game.
