If you have any questions regarding this jam, please feel free to ask here! Will try to respond ASAP.

Submitted

Hi! I checked the jam page but didn't see this answered, so I just wanted to double check- are fan games allowed? If not, completely understood! Just wanted to clarify ^^

HostSubmitted(+3)

Hi! Good question. For this jam we’re focusing on original work, so we’re not allowing fangames this time.

Submitted

Sounds good, that's why I double checked ^^

(+1)(-9)

Hey! I just wanted to ask that Is it okay with using Ai to help assist with music generation/coding help or does it have to be human/originally made?

HostSubmitted(+9)(-1)

As stated in the rules, no genAI is allowed at all.

(+2)

Got it.

(+1)(-36)

that's too bad, i would love to participate, i make everything myself but i can't and don't want to learn how to code and i generate all scripts with chatgpt

(+1)(-7)

This is too bad... I am in the same situation. Not everyone needs to know everything and even if we did, we can't do everything by ourselves. What is the difference between an AI and a helper or a friend? After all, we want to make a game and we use an assistant to help us make a game... I am developing a game by myself. Is using AI forbidden in all GameJams?

HostSubmitted (1 edit) (+5)

Thousands of games have been made by people alone before. Solo devs work hard even on their weakest skills to make games.

This is a jam for beginners. You LEARN. You MAKE MISTAKES. You IMPROVE. The skills you’ll learn by making things by yourself will carry over to your next projects, that is the point.

By letting an AI do it for you, you’re missing the goddamn point.

Look at the submissions in this jam. Dozens of games made by first-time devs. Are they perfect? Are they the best thing since sliced bread? Maybe not. But someone put hours of work into learning how to make a fucking game.

‘What’s the difference between a friend helping’ - you’re exchanging ideas and learning together. You’re bonding. Spending quality time together doing something you both enjoy, creating memories. That is the difference. That is something genAI will never be able to replace - the human aspect, the fact that we’re social beings who thrive in the presence of our loved ones.

Do better.

(-7)

for me the main issue is that i hate coding and never even want to start wasting my life on learning it, and all my games gonna rely on AI code because of that, and its not because im lazy or something, i gladly learn some other things like painting or 3d modeling, that is intresting to me, and writing scripts by myself is not one of that things, i just want to make games and only do parts of process that i like and have patience to learn, and not sit everyday looking at this mess that is code for me

(+1)

That does in fact sound like you're not doing it because you're lazy

(1 edit) (-1)

thinking that something sucks means you're lazy, ok but that means that im lazy only in coding, i like everything else in game development and love doing it, i think soccer sucks too but i like to exercise in general, so how does this work? i don't think I'm lazy in general but maybe you're right if not liking to do something that bores you is lazy, but then only lazy in this activity

Submitted(+1)

'i think soccer sucks too but i like to exercise in general, so how does this work?'

By your godawful defensive analogy, you make something in literally any other medium than a coding-based one

Seriously, don't pigeonhole yourself into one medium if you hate one of the most central aspects of creating something in that medium. You're a soccer hater complaining about playing while standing in the middle of the soccer field when you could be doing literally anything else

(+2)(-9)

😑

(-1)

Very new to jams do we start making now or when the submmisions open

HostSubmitted

As stated in the rules, for the Road Trip Jam you’re free to get started as soon you want.

(-1)

If I used roblox studio for the engine would that be okay?

HostSubmitted(+2)

I’m unfamiliar with Roblox studio… would it allow you to publish the game here on itchio?

i don't think so, as you'd need to have the file on your computer or dropbox to upload it here, but roblox games are only in the servers so probably not.

HostSubmitted

Yeah, roblox is a no.

I am a roblox game developer, and publishing roblox games in itch io is quite easier than it seems.

First, make your game and copy the link.

Then, set up the game page.

Lastly, put the game link in the description or the last part of your description.

Thats it!

Actually, you can download a copy of the game in Roblox studio, see if that works.

(+3)(-1)

I apologize if I missed the answer: are analog/tabletop games allowed, or must the game be playable digitally?

HostSubmitted(+1)

…I thought I had that in the rules, oops…

Yes, analog/tabletop games are allowed!! (adding that to the page now!)

Oh terrific, thank you! I'll share this with my discord server too then (other tabletop creator folx) 🧡

(+1)

I’m doing the same!

(1 edit) (+1)(-1)

Can I make a sequel to one of my old bad games?

HostSubmitted(+1)

Yes, sequels are ok

(-1)

I have an idea of the road trip being manly set up inside a train instead of a car, does it still count as a road trip or does the mode of transportation have to be different?

HostSubmitted(+3)

no, for this jam we’re looking for specifically the experiences of a road trip (cars/vans, roads, gas stations, questionable road food, stuck in a small vehicle together, flat tires, etc)

a train trip would offer completely different dynamics and experiences, which while very interesting does not fit what we’re looking for sadly

final fantasy xv does a section where you they go on a brief train trip, so entries could have that too, but the main focus should be the road trip

Gotcha! I'll just try thinking of a different idea that involves a van instead, thanks for the clarification

Are we allowed to submit games that have been finished before the start of the jam?

HostSubmitted

As stated in the rules, no, they have to be new games.

(1 edit) (+1)(-1)

We're currently working on a road trip game that's still in the early stages of development. Would it be acceptable to use this game jam as motivation to complete a demo / prototype ? Based on the FAQ, it seems fine, but we want to be fully transparent about what was created during the jam versus what was done beforehand.

HostSubmitted

Yes, that’s okay.

Submitted

can the road trip be placed in space? like in a ufo or something?

HostSubmitted(+2)

Interesting question… so, for this jam we’re looking for the experiences of a road trip (questionable road food, stuck in a small vehicle together, travelling from place to place, meeting new people/food/cultures)

So I don’t see why you couldn’t have an ufo in space, as long as the story has the characteristics of a road trip! Could totally have the characters go on trip around an alien planet or something like that. I’m fascinated by this concept now omg

Submitted

Thank you SO much!!!! <3

Thanks, I came to ask the same thing hahaha. I really want to write a space road trip hahaha

Hey this is my very first game jam, I'm trying to branch out of my comfort zone of becoming a game dev and thought I should challenge myself and saw this, I'm super excited about this, although I have a question, does walking/running count for road trip or does it have to be in car or something? just getting into the specifics before I start prepping. as an example, could I have like 60% on car and %40 on foot or does it all have to be one. sorry if this questions comes across as stupid or is already stated in the description of the challenge. :)

HostSubmitted (1 edit) (+1)

So, for this jam we’re looking for the experiences of a road trip (questionable road food, stuck in a small vehicle together, travelling from place to place, meeting new people/food/cultures)

So you do need to have a vehicle involved for most of the story. Some walking should be okay.

Awesome, thanks for clarifying

Hey, I am new to game dev and itch.io, me and my friend (also a beginner like me) want todo a game together how do we signup as a team or submit a game as a team once the jam starts, idk how this works?

HostSubmitted

Hello, I have a question. Can I use the Scrath engine (turbowarp.org) to create a project?

HostSubmitted

Would it allow you to publish the game here on itchio?

Yes, it allow you to publish the game here on itch io.

HostSubmitted

Then yes :D

Submitted

Is the idea that a lot of the gameplay will take place in the vehicle, or can it be more focused on the stops along the trip?

HostSubmitted

Either!

Will the road trip have to include other people (NPCs), or can it be a solo journey?

HostSubmitted

It can be a solo journey.

Submitted

Hello, I was wondering if it’s okay to participate in or submit multiple projects?

HostSubmitted

It’s okay

Is it still considered road trip if you could return to places you've been before but still explored new ones?

HostSubmitted

Yes

Can the game take place inside the human body? For example, like a journey through the internal organs?

HostSubmitted

Hmm…. it would need a vehicle, and to present the experiences of a road trip inside the human body.

Would a turn-of-the-century car race (similar to the 1908 New York to Paris race) be considered a road trip?

HostSubmitted

Would it be purely a car race, or would it include the experiences of a road trip? Bc that’s what we’re looking for

Oh, the player is definitely going to have experiences (having to stop to fix the car up, having experiences in cities, buying gas). The race is really more of a backdrop.

HostSubmitted(+1)

Then it should be ok.

Hey, if I'm working with a team of 3 do all of us have to sign up to the game jam?

HostSubmitted(+1)

Up to you, in the end only one person will submit the game

I am currently having issues finding a 3D artist. I found some 3D assets from a game that is over 20 years old now. Can I use them as placeholders until I find an Artist?

HostSubmitted

You can use them as placeholders during development, but in your released game, the assets need to be original or from asset packs/creative commons.

Ok, I am just worrying that I wont be able to find a 3D artist to help replace the models.

Hello! Are you allowing interactive fiction/word-based games in this jam as well? I'd love to try to participate by writing a road trip in a word-based game!

HostSubmitted

Yes, We love interaction fiction in fact, so please do submit your IF! =)

How long does a road trip have to be to qualify as a road trip? Like, my longest road trip was probably 4 hours to college, but the one I'd want to do a game on was when I was traveling about 2-4 hours to another state with family to a wedding so I'm not sure if that experience would qualify.

HostSubmitted

Honestly, that is really relative and we don’t want to give a minimum as what matters really in this jam is the experience of a road trip. A 2 hour trip can have all the road trip classics just as much as a 4 hour one does.

(1 edit)

Can I publish a paid version of this Game after the Game Jam? The Version I'll publish for this Jam will be a bit limited.

HostSubmitted(+1)

Yes

is it okay if i use old computer generated voices? (NOT AI)

HostSubmitted

Something like microsoft sam? Should be ok for the jam but make sure to check for licenses to see if the software allows it

(+1)

Hello, I have a question. Is it okay if the road trip takes place in a bus? Like, doesn't that make it a collective road trip, with the passengers and driver involved in the experience? If so, then I would like to ask:
1) Do the passengers and driver(s) have to know each other for this to classify as a collective road trip?
2) If the passengers and driver(s) don't know each other, would the environment still have to be made more social and positive to make it feel like a collective road trip? (like, would the passengers have to sing together sometimes, or would the player have to get to know his neighbors, stuff like that)
3) I get that these are tricky questions to answer as a bus doesn't exactly classify as a private vehicle that the player or their friends would own, but if the standard, conventional passenger bus is not qualified as one of the vehicles allowed to be used in this game jam, is a smaller, more private minibus or van allowed instead?

HostSubmitted

Sorry for the late response, I’m graduating today and had to check with my co-host lol

If the bus drive has the experiences of a road trip, it should be ok. E.g: stopping for meals and gas, staying at hotels, sightseeing, etc. I think the difference between a road trip and a regular bus travel in your case would be more important.

  1. They don’t have to know each other from the get-go. Getting to know (or hate) strangers during the trip is ok.

  2. The interactions don’t have to be positive. If you want everyone in the vehicle to hate each other’s guts/ actively plan for their murders/not care about each other, that’s okay. The social aspect can be as negative as you want, not all road trips are fun times for everyone.

  3. Minibus and van are ok, my own game has a van as it vehicle.

okay, thanks!

Yo Congratulations for graduating! 🎉🎉🥳

hello, this is my first game jam, im planning on doing the roadtrip along the panamerican highway, beetween albuquerque to panama city, is this type of intercountry travel allowed?

HostSubmitted

Yes

Submitted (1 edit)

Hi. Can i make a game set on a boat?  You would still travel a lot but it would be on the sea instead on road.  One of the core mechanics woud be that your boat woud get damaged and you woud have to fish for repair parts.

Submitted

also can it be 2d? im not that good at 3d modeling.

HostSubmitted

Hmmm… I think boats might be pushing the ‘road trip’ concept a little, so I’ll have to say no.

(And the game can be 2D, yes.)

Submitted

can the materials float in the sky (you would catch them with a harpoon)?

Submitted

also can it have voxel graphics? i woud rather focus on the gameplay than pretty assets(since im not that good at it)

HostSubmitted

Any kind of graphics is ok. I don’t get what you mean with the harpoon question, sorry.

Submitted (1 edit)

doesnt matter. Thank you

Damn.. I was also working on a boat trip type of game, kinda of thinking that "road trip" it's mora o concept of the journey in a vehicle (any vehicle as it says in the rules).

Hello would a game on historical events be appropriate? I'd be planning on making a game focusing on the evacuation of the Czechoslovak Legion in ww1. They crossed through Russia and then the Ocean to get back home and I think that may make for an interesting game.

HostSubmitted (1 edit) (+1)

For this jam we’re looking for the experiences of a road trip. If you can find a way to delve into that, historical games should be ok.

Edit: About the ocean, we aren’t allowing boats for this jam as explained in an earlier reply.

Thank you!

Can i submit multiple projects

HostSubmitted (1 edit)

This has been answered in this thread before.

EDIT: And in the FAQ.

Submitted

Questions: Are games for TWO game jams (this one and the special interest ttrpg jam) allowed if they fit the theme for both and still new? Also, are game ashcans (that is, game completed and playable, but no art, layout, etc) allowed?

HostSubmitted

yes to both

A) can i make a trip riding an animal, like a horse or something?

B) or needs to be a litereal vehicle? if so what about a wagon?

HostSubmitted(+1)

Yes to both

thanks!

hey! two questions :)
can the game involve cannabis? or is it not allowed? and also,  when is the deadline?

HostSubmitted(+1)

It can.

The deadline is clearly visible on the jam’s page.

thank uu!

(+1)

Small question, could it be based around  a trucker doing deliveries? I don't know if that would qualify a road trip in ya'lls book lol

Jam Host

Considering that truckers are always on the road, I would say so! As long as it includes elements of road trips as listed on the page of the game jam I don't see why not! :D

Thank you, I appreciate it!

Submitted

im making   a short game in a few days bc i dont have much time can i write that into the end credits?

Jam Host

Yes, that's fine! It's your game credits dude 👍

Submitted(-2)

im making simple vector art no high quality 50 hour shit

could i use gdevelop

HostSubmitted

does it allow you to publish the game here on itchio? if not, then no.

it does

hello, yes  i have a question. does the game have to include leaving the car as part of it or is mostly in the car game fine?

HostSubmitted

I won’t say it has to as I don’t want to limit potentially creative ideas, but you need to make sure the game is about a road trip and not a driving simulator if you do that. It needs the experiences of a road trip.

also does it have to be chill

HostSubmitted

No

bro my heart sank when i read the title again and it said chill, thanks for asking this question, i wouldn't have realised and maybe have wasted my time

I know people define analog CYOAs in different ways, but would you say that sort of IF is acceptable for submission, provided it follows the standards of focusing on road trip topics and being original work?

HostSubmitted

Could you give more info on what you mean by analog CYOA?

As in a book/pdf, instead of one that automates your choices like a twine file! Literally just a bog standard cyoa book, in that sense.

HostSubmitted

We’ll allow it as it’s very similiar to what we already allow in IFs and tabletop games =)

(2 edits)

Is there a new Discord server link for anyone to join? It seems that the provided link is expired.

HostSubmitted (1 edit)

It’s working for me

Would the road trip theme include a game where the characters' car has broken down on the side of a road during a road trip and they have to fix it or something similar, or do they have to actively be doing the road-tripping during the game?

HostSubmitted

They have to be doing the road trippin’

(-2)

can you make a game for it

HostSubmitted(+2)

i don’t know actually, that’s a good question

(-1)

ok

i have another question, but can it be at just one area like a gas station?

HostSubmitted

A road trip needs to have an actual trip in it to be a road trip.

ok

Quick question, can we do a fantasy setting, where the vehicle is a carriage, or just a mount of some kind of animal?

HostSubmitted

As stated in the FAQ, fantasy or historical vehicles are ok.

Could a game about a sort of long distance taxi/delivery service work for the road trip theme? (Player would pick up something, then travel some distance while managing fuel and listening to their customer tell a tale)

Would something like this require extra details to qualify?

HostSubmitted

That should be ok, but try to include road trip experiences so it’s not plainly a delivery service simulator!

Can the vehicle for the road trip be a horse? Thanks!

HostSubmitted

Yes! Fantasy and historical modes of transportation are allowed

Thanks!

Uh... my game is not in a car nor a road but the more you roam, the more you find and get. Its my game Live to Die, sounds sad but its kinda fun and soon will have it's first boss battle!! So could I add this game?

HostSubmitted

It doesn’t fit the road trip theme, so we can’t accept it.

UNdeRstAnDAblE

Two small questions.

1. Would a game about driving a tank from point A to B where you have to survive as well be allowed

2. Would a non super obvious easter egg to a show be allowed

HostSubmitted
  1. A road trip in a tank might be pushing the concept a bit too much, unless you can depict the experiences of a road trip very well. Focus on the road trip aspect.

  2. Sure, but watch out for copyright issues

Submitted

Hey so my game that I still need to submit is in progress and while the road trip does include a car (a talking friendly one at that) the main focus on the road trip isint the driving part but the desinations along the way and the interesting things that you can do while on road trips and the locations are heavily inspired by common vacation destinations (especially if posssible, tourist trap ones, such as a las vegas inspired, area 51 gas station inspired , and multiverses largest popcorn ball stuff, to give some actual examples)

I really love how it's coming along but I am a bit worried since its more focused on the things that make up the journey of a road trip than the road trip itself it might not be quite what the games looking to do, I could probably add a car driving minigame in between levels but that would be kind of difficult given I'm working with a sort of half 2d half 3d art style! thanks for your time!!!!

HostSubmitted

That’s perfect. Don’t worry about it

Submitted

thank  you so much! I have a few test builds out already that are already playable (with a few levels) so I'm gonna submit it and just keep updating then if that's okay! I really hope you guys end up enjoying it this is my first game jam and I've gotten pretty ambitious :) This is so much fun I'm definitely doing game jams in the future ^_^ and thank you SO MUCH for the swift response WOW that was fast! thank you for your time!!!!

Submitted (3 edits)

Hey there, Meiri! So this question doesn't really regard the gamplay of my submission for the Road Trip Jam, but rather the software itself.

So on my submission page (The link is here: The Sleepless Drive by br8blue), a user complained that Windows Defender actually flags my game as malware.

I actually looked into this error for a bit and found a lot of information regarding this problem. According to many sources, creating executable files using PyInstaller (a program I used to compile my Python files into a .exe file) makes Windows Defender think that the software is malicious (which in my case it clearly isn't).

As of now I am still trying to get it whitelisted by Microsoft, but that may take a while.

I just wanted to let you know because I felt that it was something important for you to acknowledge, and I hope you understand. (I don't want my game taken down! 😅)

HostSubmitted(+1)

Yeah, that’s concerning… I appreciate your transparency

Perhaps it might be a good idea to look into other ways to build your game, like with a different engine or providing a web version, as I really doubt Microsoft will be able to whitelist your application anytime soon, unfortunately :(

Submitted (3 edits)

Wow, that was a fast response!

But anyways, the problem doesn't actually prevent people from playing it since there are two ways to bypass it

1) Turn off Windows Defender

2) Just ignore the error. Windows give you the option to proceed anyways, so it's fine.

My personal idea is that (if it's fine with you) I create a new topic under the community page of this Jam. I could use it to help anyone with issues they have with playing my game, because I spent a decent amount of time creating my own original music and coding it, so I want to make sure that everyone can enjoy my game without much hassle!

HostSubmitted

Might be a better idea to leave a note on your game’s page/create a thread there.

Submitted

Yeah, that is true. Thanks for your help!

Is there a minimum amount of time or distance that the game has to cover? :3

HostSubmitted

As previously answered in this thread, we’re not giving anyone any minimums as that could limit possible creativity.

what are the rewards? if there are any?

HostSubmitted

read the jam’s page

uhm, I read it but couldnt find the reward tab xd

HostSubmitted

hi!! I wanted to ask a couple of questions—are kinetic visual novels acceptable? And regardless, are VNs with singular endings but minor dialogue variants through choices acceptable?

Thank you in-advance ! Sorry if either of these were asked before.

HostSubmitted

we love kinetic VNs, they are very welcome! 🤝🏼

Thank you so much for responding!! 💛🫶

Submitted

I've submitted a game, and now I want to make an opposite version of the game that is the eye replaces the truck and everything is the opposite colour and way.

Do I just include it as a link in my original game or can I submit it as an entirely different game to this jam as it'll be the sequel of the game.

HostSubmitted

you could submit it to this jam if you want

Submitted

thanks for clarifying ¯\_ʘᗜʘ_/¯

Submitted

are we able to make the games take long periods of time like... is it okay to make a game that takes three days?

just wondering

HostSubmitted

yeah

(1 edit)

Hi, I have been working on my first game called "Drive" Its still in development and i do post the game on itch, but its not a good game right now, can i use this jam to complete the game and publish it here since my game matches this jam's tone?

And also can i keep updating the game after submitting it?

Kindly check my profile if i match the rules, I will update the name no worries

HostSubmitted

As explained in the rules, the game has to be new to be submitted to the jam.

Can I post a duplicate submission? Like  the same game for another game jam? I didn't see this one till the other became active and my idea is very similar to this one.

HostSubmitted

you can submit the game to as many jams as you want as long as it fits the theme and follows the rules

Appreciate it!

Is Scratch Compatible for this challenge?

HostSubmitted

if it allows you to post the game on itchio, yes

I think it does.

(1 edit)

can the road trip game be based on apocalypse now/heart of darkness?

Jam Host

As long as it's a road trip with aspects of a road trip, doesn't involve any copyrighted stuff, and follows the rules of the game jam, I don't see anything wrong with taking inspiration from other media as long as you're not full-on copying it.

can you work on 2 projects one a solo and one a collab

HostSubmitted

as stated in the faq, yes

yay thank you :D

Are we allowed to use plugins? For example using Dialogic 2 - a plugin used for dialogues or do we have to write all the code ourselves i.e writing a dialogue system from the ground up.

HostSubmitted

You can use plugins

Can i use AI to help make this

HostSubmitted (2 edits) (+1)

Question posted 45 minutes ago

Bye.

Are games which occur throughout the span of a trip but not actually in the vehicle like Super Mario odyssey allowed?

HostSubmitted

It needs to involve a vehicle! Some parts can exclude the vehicle, but it needs to be there.

Hi! I am totally new to game dev(and itch.io overall) but want to take part and not have much experience will it be fine as I would love to take part in this(so that i could learn and have fun)? Thanks a lot for any feedback!!

Jam Host

Experience isn't required! Just be sure to read the rules on the main page and have fun!

How about the whole Americana and Canadiana of Hobo culture, where jumping freight trains is integral to the ethos of a road trip, as it is with punx?

can you use music from other games or at least use them as inspiration

HostSubmitted

we don’t want to get into legal trouble, so the music needs to be either original or from an asset pack/free music site

Are we allowed to use Unity templates as a base?

HostSubmitted

I’m not familiar with Unity templates, but if it’s not genAI and the creators allow you to use it, I don’t see an issue

Cool I figured. Thanks for hosting!

Will the mods promote the games online?

HostSubmitted

we’re promoting the whole jam. with the amount of participants, promoting all the games would be a hard task.

oh ok

Deleted post

Only because I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on the FAQ or on this forum, but do game authors retain the rights to their submissions?

HostSubmitted(+1)

yeah of course! i could not imagine otherwise

Thank you for your quick reply!

Hey! I have a question about the road trip theme - does it have to take place DURING the road trip or can it be like a  game about packing for a road trip?

HostSubmitted

Needs to be during a road trip

(2 edits)

can there be parts in the game where you play as another character having a road trip but like having  them all connected

HostSubmitted

yeah

yeah

is it allowed to make the game a web game?

HostSubmitted

yep

Can scratch (The game engine) be used? 🙃

HostSubmitted

this has been answered several times before. we accept any engines that allow publishing on itchio

(1 edit)

Hello. I would love to get involved with a game to do sound design and music for! Are there any games currently needing this? My portfolio is here: samueltosto.com. Also, is this jam completely online or is it in person?

HostSubmitted

You could make a thread offering your services!

This jam is online only

Great! What should I include in the thread that will get peoples' attention here? I really need to get on a game.

HostSubmitted

the game need be chill?

HostSubmitted

This has been answered before. No, you can make whatever you want, as long as it has a road trip

Hi there, I'm new to all this (not gaming, been into that since Pong on the Atari and now VR/MR!) and am a published UK musician and composer. I'm looking to get into creating game music, and it's been suggested that Game Dev jams would be a great way for me to get some real experience and examples in this area.  If there's any music I can contribute to this, please let me know how I go about creating what's needed, or providing it for this game dev jam.  I have plenty of ready made bits and also can knock bits up quickly in my home studio. Here's my YouTube link in case there's anything that would be good to use (please ask me if so and I'll send the proper files, rather than ripping anything off) :) Woop! Good luck, ThunderBird

I would love to participate in the Game Jam, but also, I won't, because before I even join, I was already treated badly for a simple question, while other users had an appropriate treatment/response. I don't like to hold grudges, and neither am I, but I haven't seen anything saying about "can the game be calm?" other than my question. At this point, my question is deleted FOR SOME REASON.

the print is before delete

Hi! Hello, your previous question was not deleted. Mei was not trying to be rude; your question has been answered before here in this form.

Jam Host

As long as it is a road trip game with road trip elements, the genre does not matter! Have fun :D

Submitted

I would like to know if the idea of fixing a broken vehicle during a road trip could count? The Gameplay would focus on fixing a road trip that went wrong when the vehicle broke down. This is my first game jam and I want to make sure this idea works!

That should be fine as long as it still has road trip elements to it

Thank you very much!

Hello, what if my game has the engine watermark?

HostSubmitted

its fine

can you upload a game in development until done

Can i use Phaser JS to Make my Game ?? and i read about genAi and i have one question ? i cannot use it even to just fix some errors because, i don't have much experience and that would be my first jam

Jam Host

AI of any kind is not allowed.

what game engines

Jam Host

I don't think game engines matter so long as it allows you to upload to itch.io and isn't AI

can we take note of other games but not make ours the same and does that count as original or not.

No, please do not do that. It's disrespectful to the other creators. Also, please do not spam the board; this isn't an instant messenger app.

EDIT: Just to clarify, seeing how others do things and getting inspired by them is perfectly fine, we just ask that you try to put your own original spin into it!

Imagine a game set in the "Old West" with a caravan of travelers in a wagon, carriage, or on horseback. Would this constitute a "road trip" per the rules?

Yes

Thank you!!

Hi, im working on a solo ttrpg and wondering if yall would allow collage as visuals scattered throughout? It'd be using magazines. Totally understandable if not, as collages can be teatering on the line of copyright ect.

Jam Host

I guess it should be okay, it is certainly an interesting idea. Good luck with your game!

Thank you! Lets hope i get it done lol!

Can I using asset that I downloaded? I mean from websites that we can get free assets?

Jam Host

Free assets are free to use just please make sure they are not AI!

As an artist I would like to offer my help. But I am lost in your Discord server. Is there any team-forming channel for this jam?

Jam Host(+1)

The Discord server isn't for this Game jam it's for VN devs, so it's not our server.
This might be helpful, though https://itch.io/jam/road-trip-game-jam/topic/4476699/tips-how-to-recruit-team-me...

Hi. I finished a demo earlier this week that I think would be fitting for this game jam, but I'm not entirely sure it's enough 'road trip' to qualify. Most of it takes place being stuck in a town as the car breaks down at the beginning. Will this be ok to submit?

Jam Host

The vehicle needs to be a bigger part of the story in order for it to be considered a road trip story.

I see, thank you. I'll skip out on entering this one then, looking forward to seeing what comes out of it though!

Are games in scratch allowed?

Jam Host

Yes

Howdy. Must the road trip be in a vehicle like  a car or a van? Could it also be an especially long bike ride? Kind of silly but figured I'd ask.

Jam Host

As long as it's about a road trip, bikes are fine, as people also go on road trips on motorcycles.

Are late submissions allowed?

HostSubmitted

You can submit an unfinished game or a demo.

Messed up uploading our game and missed the submission deadline by about 5 seconds RIP. Is there a location we can post the game as an honorary submission?
