I respect and appreciate the bold choices. A whole adventure with backstory and a variety of gameplay. I wasnt sure what was happening with the oversized textures in the beginning but that just added to the charm and weirdness. thanks for making something special!
Thanks for the feedback! The time crunch got me placing my art in wierd placed sadly, but im glad to see you enjoyed the game along with the many mysterious things there! I had a lot more to add to it too 😭
Hey! Great job on the game, and excellent use of the limitation. I was a bit confused about what to do in certain parts but other than that it was nice! The one major thing I would suggest though is that you should be able to interact with items upon contact instead of upon pressing the E key, as I think it would make the gameplay a lot more smooth. Other than that though, the graphics were fine, the music fit the game well, and it was entertaining. Nice job!
Thanks for the feedback! I guess I should of just performed an equip upon contact to make it smoother. That's something to keep in mind. Glad you enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed the fact there were mutliple mini-games in this game. The music is just awesome and reminded me of old game from my childhood :)
Thanks! I love bringing a nostalgic feeling in my games and I feel these worked nicely. Glad you enjoyed it!
Fun game! I enjoyed the premise and the variety of gameplay, I occasionally found myself confused on where to go, some sort of directional indicator or objective marker would be nice. Also, during the falling statues part, I found that a good chunk of them spawned on the side of the screen and were never a real threat to me, I suggest spawning one on the player's X axis so that one will always head towards the player and maybe another somewhere random along the X-axis. That way there is always a danger to the player plus a random chance of getting hit while moving. Overall good entry!
Thanks for the feedback! Thats a really good idea for me to do if only I could of had time to implement all these new features 😭😭. Time really wasnt on my side for the whole jam, but I'm glad you liked the game overall!
Since so many criticize the art style of the game I have to say I really like how the Maoi head and its sword turned out. It is true that the backgrounds could use some work but I like the game overall. Only the boss fight in the end was a bit too hard for me.
That was the sign of me rushing sadly. I actually took my time making the art, but when it came to the placement of the art, things went haywire. 😂. I should of worked around a suitable difficulty for the boss too. Glad you enjoyed though!
I've took the references from castlevania and shovel knight!
i've thought that the game was gonna be simple but then you surprised me because this game has a lot of variety, maybe the art could be improved but it's neat for having this limited amount of time
Yes, the way I placed my art can DEFINITELY be improved. I was low on time sadly. Im glad you noticed the references hehe. Glad to see you enjoyed it! :D
I the direction you went it while keeping it with the limitations. The art is good and the music choice is great. It was pretty difficult and took me a few attempts.
I did have some difficulty navigating the areas because the walls weren't define at all. I eventually got there, but it took me longer than it probably should have.
Good job 👍
Thanks! I had to improvise seeing I was short on time, but I hope you had fun!
Thank you for the awesome review! I wish I had created my own music for this, but sadly, I was on a time crunch as I rushed SOO many things. Including placing the pixel art properly in the scenes.
I had to perform an all nighter just to finish it. Thanks for reminding me about that tip though about the art sizing and adding checkpoints!
(I used Fami Studio to make some easy SFX though.)
Haha I think you didn't properly reply to my review -- I only found this after I went back to leave my rating.
Good work on the all-nighter. I recognize your effort.
For the checkpoints, you used unity right? I assume every level is a different scene? You could've set it such that death only reloads the current scene (a.k.a. restart to level beginning)
I was replying on my phone and I noticed only a couple hours after. I dont know why my phone did that. But yeah, thank you for the recognition it means alot! And I actually ended up using just one scene, which probably was my downfall in this situation, but I just couldn't switch anything during that time.
When I heard the music I said... amazing... until I saw that it's actually from other games... Damn when I saw "FamiStudio" in the "Software used" I thought you composed them yourself (^.^;
I think there's nothing much to say here... I kind of wished the game doesn't send me back to the beginning when I die, considering this is not a short game.
Art-wise... just some tip for next time: When doing pixel arts, keep the pixel sizes consistent. The BG has big pixels while the char has small pixels and it's... unpleasant to look at.
