Really enjoyed this game :) I managed to get 3 stars on every level! I think the level designs were well done, but I'd like to see more involving the bouncing demon. I think the levels could be re-arranged a bit based on difficulty, as the ones I found to be most challenging were not always near the end, and some of the easiest levels were later on. I also like the fact that you can click on the book in mid-air and launch it again, although I'm not sure if that's intentional or not, but it can be a cool mechanic if you decide to make more complex levels. I did encounter a bug where the book can get stuck or even go outside of the screen on the left side. The controls feel pretty tight but I do wish there was more of a gradual ramping of the velocity when launching it, because I pretty much had to launch at maximum velocity for every level to win making the controllable nature of it more or less pointless. Great game though!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Re-launching the book in the air was the main mechanic I envisioned but unfortunately didn't get to use it enough due to the small level design. I can definitely tweak the velocity on the Bible to make it more effective. This game was my first time toying around with the physics, so I still am trying to get just the right feel on it. I'm currently unsure how to fix the Bible flying through walls bug, but I'll look into it! Thanks again!

Really cool idea! But i could sujest some things to improve.

first of all the character feels a bit heavy, this level of gravity would work better for a tight platformer game, but less for a game about aiming and calculating arches.

and secondly il recomend having the challange come from tricky level design and less from moving the targets at super high speeds, it makes it feel like the game tried to make you fail and that its just luck based less than an actual smart throw.

But its a really nice idea to have different enemies interact differently with the player, and the sound effects and particals really made the game better and fun.

Il say thats a really impressive first game, good job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I'll play around with the gravity some more to make it feel better, as for the level design I can mess about with that some too. With the fast targets I wanted to encourage careful timing but I can see how it is more luck based. I'll see what I can do in a post jam version to fix that.

Definitely a very fun game. Probably the best one yet.

Love the concept of the game definitely. Gameplay wise it's very excellent. Also love the fact that the player here is the Bible.

I think the James 2:19 quote is kind of misplaced there tho since the actual message of that verse is pretty different. Hebrews 4:12 about how the Word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword or Ephesians 6:17 about the sword of the Spirit fits better imo although still not exactly...

Thanks for the feedback! I think I will change it to Hebrews 4:12 in the post-jam version. I was looking for a verse about how even the Demons fear God. I think the verse you mentioned fits way better in the context of the game!

Yeah. The context of James 2:19 is rebuke. The message is that if one simply claims to believe in God, demons do too -- but the difference is that demons hate God while followers of Christ love God.

Well it's hard to make a perfectly theologically accurate game and I myself never dared to make any game like that so you already have my salute for making this game.

Thanks! I've been trying for a little bit to make a game that helps lead people to God or at least gives them a better understanding of Christianity. Last Mini Jam I made a card game about not going to hell. As you said, it's hard to be perfectly theologically accurate, especially with limited time and mechanics, but I'm going to keep trying!

Nice game! I like the approach you took with this and used a bible as an inanimate object! The levels were pretty good, would of been nice if there were a bit more difficulty in the levels. Also, the physics didn't really match up the line shot for the bible. Overall though, it was still an enjoyable experience!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I really struggled with getting the physics on the shot to line up correctly so I ended up going with more of a general direction sort of feel. I will look more into it after the jam! As for more levels, I will see what I can do!

Yeah working with physics is pretty difficult tbh so I understand. Atleast the game was actually playable. 😃

Great game! I think this would be great on mobile.
