How is your game meta (within each relevant category)?
The guide directly speaks to players, although, it takes him a bit to get grumpy enough! The guide references the amount of effort it takes to develop in various dialogues! The game is literally a satirical view on how players generally play through games! This game parodies portal and Stanley parable, it's like they had a terrible baby!

Please list any pre-made art/music/other assets that you used.
Two sound effects were used from freesound.org, they have no licensing requirements. There was one music track used without permission... but really, it's an inside joke and I was too sleepy to do anything original.

ALSO, I forgot, materials for most objects we got for free from the unity store!

Great job!! I enjoyed the writing a lot, and you got a few good chuckles out of me :) I definitely get a Portal / Stanley Parable vibe (in a good way- I love those games!).

Kinda reminded me of stanely parable then I saw what you said about stanley parable + portal = terrible baby lmfaooo -liked the disappointed voice xD  -awesome work on this!

Hey thanks a lot! Your comment means a lot to me! I'm glad you got the references =D Hope you had a wonderful time!

I like the concept going into this! However, the execution was sometimes a little iffy. Like, the bridge that slowly comes down requires waiting for a full minute it seems. If you want to take this project further, you should definitely watch some people play this alpha and see where they find it frustrating.

Yes! I totally agree! I think we missed the mark on the length and time of sections in some spots.  I guess I underestimated how long I was speaking in every section.  I thought about trying to edit the commentary a bit but, it was already committed haha and time was short.  I thank you for your constructive comment! Hope you enjoyed anyway =D

I'm probably not the target audience for this because I haven't the patience to listen to people give me orders (let alone do what they say) but I see what you were going for. The writing is excellent, even if the VO delivery is iffy in places.

Would love to see what you do with a larger project. Well, as long as you allow me to invert the mouse y-axis. :)

Hey, thanks for playing our game and for your video feedback. We appreciate it.

You are actually the perfect target audience for the game. Heinrich's idea was to really lean into the concept of no-one listening to tutorials, so having you and your self-proclaimed lack of patience was perfect:) We know the mechanics were simple (and boring), but the goal was to make the player see the clear objective and just go for it rather than wait for the 'proper instructions'. (Your reaction to my Do Not Press sign was perfect). This, of course, would be improved upon in an actual game rather than our smaller time scope. We definitely appreciate all of your comments, and hopefully you'll check out any future work we do!

P.s.- Our first game jam game (Caravan! for the Movie game jam) was 100% mechanics driven, so feel free to check it out if you'd like. We are just using these jams as a way to really dive into specific concepts in a short time. Make sure to hold 'STA' + enter to start the game from the tutorial screen, if you end up trying it out and get stuck there. Thanks again!

Hey thanks for the comment! I knew the voice acting was a bit wonky in spots but due to the time crunch, I opted for complete than perfect...  But trust me, I wanted better! =P  I'm glad you felt the way you did, that was the whole point!  Thanks for playing!

lol, nice parody on tutorials, good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing! We had a blast coming up with the different ways to encourage users to follow the tutorial, so we're glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!

Got the good and bad ending. Pretty meta, and the voice work was nicely done (although could use a better mic, as some of it sounds muffled).

Think that the game breaks if you jump into the pit too often and you can't proceed even if you are at the end portal.

Developer

If you could give me a bit more info, I'm sure I could work not being able to procede out.  Everything is hard coded... Clunkily... in order to make sure we had what we needed done.  Also, I know there's no feedback, but you can't enter a portal without completing the voiceover.  If you could describe where you were at in game, where you weren't able to procede, that would help immensely!  Also, if you have any specific spots where the voicing was le poop, I can take a look there as well! (Anything with our lovely female voiceover is going to be a little lower quality due to hardware limitations!)
Thanks for playing!

How I got that was the part with the 2 platforms over the pit, I intentionally jumped into the pit a few times, then managed to make my way over using the side route that was opened, but although the particle effects start appearing at the portal and the voice seemed to end it doesn't seem to activate. Was the only time I got stuck though.

Developer

Well, dang! I tried to work that one out before and thought it was happy! I'll give it another look to prevent future frustration! Thanks!

Developer

Thanks for the heads up- Heinrich has been killing it lately updating the game, and I'll take a look at it as well this evening to see if I can figure out where our hard-coding went wrong (besides, you know hard-coding everything...). Thanks again for playing mate!

Developer

Side Note: There's at least 3 endings =D

No, you suck! That voice killed my motivation to proceed! How much is there after that level? I really tried to get all the colors listed on the wall and I even succeed twice but just when I was about to jump to the other side to press the white light I would fall and then I would hate the world. It's interesting and really meta experience. Wish it was polished a little bit with that jumping because sometimes it doesn't register my jump and that leeds to a lot frustration. Thank you for the experience!

Developer

Hey thanks for the response!  The level with the colored buttons is the very last level, there are 5 "layers" that we produced for 15 total levels.  I noticed the jumping mechanics felt a bit funky if you tried to rapidly jump around but it was left in for that level in particular.  THAT version of layer 4, the one you were on, is the MOST DIFFICULT in the game!  I hope it felt clostrophobic!

When my partner in crime (who also programmed the jump mechanics) gets back from his vacation, I'll see what we can do to tweak the jumping.

Thanks for your kind words =D

Developer(+1)

I uploaded a new version with SLIGHTLY better jumping mechanics, but just slightly.  Thanks for the comment!
