Did you work in a team?
1 member, programmer/art maker. Pretty fun, had only 4 days available to work on the game, so much content is implied but not in the game. For the future...
Was the resolution a challenge?
Pretty hard to write a lot of text. I used a lot of icons and buttons over stuff in the world
What did you learn?
Yes

good music and graphics, but the core mechanics lacks a bit of polish. keep up working on it, its a very cute game
Thank you! I'm working on it but with a bit of trouble. Hopefully I'll update something this week and then keep going from there
Neat game. The graphics and audio are very nice, and convey a very relaxing vibe. I especially like the way the sky slowly changes from day to night. When it comes down to actual fishing it's pretty simple but still satisfying to catch the fish.
One thing I will say is that it seems this game had some questionable priorities for a short dev time. The polished menu, over world stuff, and the day/night cycle is cool, but I think it would've been preferable to flesh out the core fishing mechanics more first.
Thank you for playing! Fair assessment I'd say. I did start with the menus and background first :D. I'm adding more stuff now but I'm kinda slow because I'm refactoring stuff and the game is breaking left and right. I do have a first shop implemented and a plan for traversal between cities! If you're interested, keep an eye out for more updates this week
This game is great, I think the first person perspective adds a lot to this compared to the third person fishing we see in most other games (stardew valley, animal crossing, fire emblem three houses, paper mario, the list goes on). I liked that the same action button is used for everything, makes it simple to learn the controls. This game really makes me think that we need a first person farm simulator type of game. I can't remember the last non-shooter first-person pixel art game I played, come to think of it. Very cool!
Thank you! I'm in the middle of struggling while adding new stuff :D. Hopefully with more first-person fishing
You did a great job at polishing this, really nice!
Thank you! I noticed I started doing everything backwards. Taking into account everyone prototypes ideas at the beginning, I already knew I wanted a simple fishing game. So I really started going into art from day one practically, and I programmed the actual fishing last thing haha :D
I love fishing games, everything that's here is super polished.
It would be awesome to see this finished, with a minigame to catch the fish once they bite!
Thank you! I am looking into adding more content. I'm thinking of adding a minigame-like catch for another type of fishing rod. The one now is like a stick with a string attached, so that may be better suited for a rod with a reel
The little skill check to catch the fish prevents the waiting from being frustrating. after waiting for a while, it's quite satisfying to successfully react in a split second. Also love the day/night cycle.
Also Godot :]
That's a relief. A little effect I didn't intend to get out of the system, but I think it makes it better, is that I base the timers on the minutes within the hour to trigger the fishing, so the earlier you go and fish the more fish you'll get. I'm thinking of making the day/night cycle seemless into the morning as well. Thank you for playing!
Godot has been a great tool for me, I couldn't imagine using other engines for the time being
I'm a sucker for fishing games, and this one is charming. As a fellow "only had a few days to work" club member, congrats on submitting! :D
Thank you! I definitely made the mistake of getting too ambitious before. I'm glad you liked it, congrats to you too!
There’s nothing like sitting on the beach with a rod. Pretty cool idea. Thanks for building it out.
You're welcome! Thank you for playing!
Amazing game. Love the art and especially the music which is really relaxing!
Thank you very much!
Very nice game! Quite chill and interesting to explore the towns and fishing spots
in the future. I'll def keep an eye on this game for updates.I already added some new content, glad you enjoyed! I'll wait till the judging finished to push the updates though
Congrats on your entry!
Well executed in the 64x64 limited screen.
Happy to see you used Godot as well :)
Thank you! I'm happy with Godot as well :D
That casting animation is excellent! I caught 10 fish and wanted to go explore but I think everywhere was blocked? I want more ToT
Yes! I didn't have time, but I'm feeling really tempted to update it. Be sure to check it out after judging ends, maybe You'll have more to do then!
Great concept. Chilling and perfectly fits for "lowrezjam" in my opinion.
Thank you very much!
Nice, relaxing, chilled atmosphere from the music and the very nice graphics. I'm really going to have to sharpen my reaction times though :D
Thanks for playing! It did seem easy for me, but I did create the animation so I knew what to expect lol
Cool concept! I like the 2D scene you can pan through at the beach, and even though there's just the one area it's neat that you can select it on a map. The time-based sky is neat too. I like that you learnt "Yes" XD
I wanted to add more stuff but I procrastinated a bit and had work so I ended up with the bare minimum. It's a cool trick to use too because it's the same for anyone around the world (I'm using the minutes which should be the same for everyone) and it also doesn't reset when closing and opening so I saved time on the serialization bit.
Haha, for what I learnt, you can check my comment on this page :D
I had 30 seconds to upload left so I had to put "Yes" to meet the deadline.
What did I learn?
1. First thing I did was to set up the submission page, just the basics. It ultimately let me upload on time.
2. I made an inheritable "Scene" for all my scenes with basic functions like what music to play as well as some signals to trigger sounds and a transition to the next scene. It made hooking up new scenes really simple.
3. I used the time on the computer to set the time of day in the game.
4. Look into exporting earlier than you think. I could only manage an HTML export because I had to configure stuff for Windows and Mac so I left them aside
5. Procrastinating during the week is a content killer but I managed to ship the bare minimum required to play the game.
Overall, happy that I finished and can later add more content, though if history repeats, maybe I won't. Jam games are fun to make but hard to keep on updating due to noone caring after the rating phase
hahaha :'D
