Did you work in a team?
My partner and I came up with the idea.

Was the resolution a challenge?
I took the concept to the extreme, so the game (excluding instructions) could fit in 16 x 16. Fits the "Parallel Universe" theme

What did you learn?
This is my first Pico-8 release!

Wow, this is unexpectedly addicting. Any chance for a link to the music?

Developer

Thank you for playing! The song is only about 30 seconds long sadly, but if I expand on it and export it I'll let you know!

This game is hard to master yet addictive. Good entry!

such a stylish, hard game!! i like it so much.

edit: the way the title text slides off the screen, the high score display, the controls (i’m using one hand on Z, one hand on up-arrow), the screenshake, the bar-drain mechanic and the way it encourages you to stomp the blocks back and forth twice to preserve stamina (which is so tricky!)… this game is so good! two tiny things i would change if it were up to me: I’d like it if the screenshake were a frame or two shorter, since the game is so precise and I’m trying to preserve stamina as much as possible. also, screenshake only works for the bottom paddle; is this a bug?

current high score: 65

yessss new highscore: 77!!

I wish I could use pico-8’s gif recorder to “prove” that this is legit, but I don’t think pico-8 has the gif record button built-in to the web player… I couldn’t find it at least. (I think there is some code you could add to trigger a gif recording, but as a player I don’t think there’s anything I can do)

Anyway here’s my screenshot, fwiw https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/447963376266641408/746984198816137236/unknown.png

Oh wowwww! That's an insane score, not sure I'll ever be able to beat it! Ill modify the page to honour you haha.

Thank you so much for your in-depth feedback. You are completely right about the screenshake. I will fix the other paddle and make it shorter overall.

This is a cool game. I love the music and the graphics, but wow is it hard :)

Developer

Thank you! Just trying to keep it extra short and sweet

That's simple, yet, requires to be always ready and steady. I scored 50 and to be honest, I'm proud right now. I like how it's 1 bit and colors change every death, it adds to the graphics which other way might be boring, but you have done a good job. Nice!

Thanks a lot! That's a great score.

I really enjoyed this one! It communicates very well. I like how the stampers shrink to tell you how long they can be hold. The screen shake is nice to. In my opinion, game feeling is one of the most important things in games, and you nailed it. The only critic I have, is that I thought a long time, I had to jump over the "holes" too. I made a picture of it. Have a nice day!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Yes, that makes sense as a weakness. I thought about that for a long time. Went through 3 different designs for the "holes" behaviour, but decided to compromise and do nothing in the end to keep the focus on the other mechanics.

I think the best solution is for the holes to eat some of the stampers' life, but have faster regeneration.
