Longtime player of this wonderful game, here to give the Itch page some <3
If you’ve never played Andor’s Trail, get it. You won’t regret it!
I’ve have been enjoying playing your game for the past few days, my first time with a game on a hex grid.
The first character I played didn’t last very long at all; I rolled very poorly. My first excursion outside town led me straight into an Ei’Dolon, I received a major wound and sought out help from Martha, who asked me to venture back to find the herbs to heal me. My second venture led me straight to a Cin Fanatic, and that was that.
I’ve since learned better, and make use of fleeing when things look dire. My second character has survived for one week (in-game time).
I’m still within the first tier of forest and it feels like there is so much more to explore. The scope of content amazes me, just wonderful! The macabre theme resonates with me. I sometimes use a soundboard for music/sfx ambience while I’m exploring.
What a great, fun and challenging game. I can’t wait to see what my character finds next!
Below are some gotchas and I hope they are taken as intended - constructively :)
I’m looking forward to receiving my print copy and foe cards :)
Thanks!
I am glad you found the fireworks satisfying. They are the best part :-)
I tried to balance the unlimited ammo by making each base only fire one at a time, until its projectile explodes, then it can fire again. Then I discovered it is easier to play with one base than four, and tried to balance that aspect by awarding higher score for every undamaged base you have, so its in your interest to protect all of them. In the end there is only so much one can do given the 1K constraint 🤯
Thanks for playing!
I love me a good roguelike. This is a nice throwback and it looks great for a 1K game!
I do feel like your chance of success is luck-based, mostly because your HP does not regenerate over time. This makes it difficult to rest up before taking on that last enemy and advance to the next level.
Then again, this is a 1K compo, and this is a lovely homage to a timeless game. Excellent!
What a LÖVEly entry, the artwork and music is great and gameplay is fun, good work on the sequences in between challenges. I did have a hard time with the Joker, which remains unbeaten.
Edit - Ok I just figured out you need to press the keys in the order presented. For some reason I thought the pop-up keys represented which of the characters the joker will attack, and you had to guess which of the three it was.
Nicely done!
