That was a very fun experience, reminds me of the old World of Warcraft TD maps. The loop of enemies = dice = gold = upgrades is really tied together neatly. Would definitely want to see more of this with more towers and combinations. Congrats on finishing the jam !
Thank you! That's very kind of you to say. I'm definitely thinking about developing it further, so I'm glad to hear you like it. Thanks for playing!
Despite the simple poly look, the game looks amazing! it is a little bit hard but it is incredibly enjoyable ! and this is the only TD game in this Jam :D So, the creativity - is on the highest level!
Great job!
Thank you for the kind words! It's definitely a bit on the harder side, even I can't always win levels (depending on RNG). Balancing was something I just had to give up in favor of polish near the end. Glad you enjoyed it!
I can't take credit for that level of creativity though, there's at least 2 more tower defense games in the jam (check the comments on this page for them). We all found each other somehow :D
Hot damn this game got super hard! The visuals were really on point and I think with a little balancing / fine tuning this would be a great game to expand upon :D
Haha yea you're definitely not wrong. Especially the third level get nigh-on impossible near the end. Glad you liked it though, thanks for playing!
nice idea
Thank you! Nice of you to say :)
Loved the simple poly look and the tower defense gameplay. The concept also fit very well into the theme too. Overall great and really unique entry :D
Thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it! Glad you like it!
A lot of fun and great presentation. Just needs a little bit of balancing and I feel like the theme could be integrated a bit more systems. Well done, cheers!
Glad you liked it! Absolutely agree with your comments, maybe if I would've had another day ;). Thanks for playing!
Nice little tower defense.
Found a cheese strat (basically spam the crossbows and the pew-pews) but still enjoyed the game. Not sure if tower upgrades affect anything except for the range, and I didn't find a reason to use any other towers besides the cheese.
That aside, looks nice, sounds nice, well done!
Thanks for the nice comments! I hadn't actually tried that strat myself, but I'm glad you found something that worked for you. The tower upgrades are purely a range upgrade, which can be nice in later waves. Glad you liked it, thanks for playing!
I think the idea of rolling gold you get with dice rolls depending on which enemies you've defeated is highly creative. However, I find the game extremely difficult, I didn't manage to finish the first level. I have the feeling you have to put the right towers in the right places and upgrade at the right time. You can design such levels, but I find that rather inappropriate for the very first level. Despite that i enjoyed playing your game. Good job.
That's a fair comment! I have found it hard before to balance game mechanics around new players, when I as a developer know how everything works beforehand. Normally I would dedicate more time to playtesting to address that, but in a game jam that's harder. So I get what you mean. Glad you still had fun though, thanks for playing!
One way to balance well is that as a developer you need to play through your game without any problems. In your case I would also test different playstyles to see if the game is still feasible. But I understand that balancing in a game jam is very difficult. That's why most jam games are difficult.
Good point! If I had more time I definitely would've tried to play using more various playstyles. As it stands I was using the same strategy a lot, which I know worked. But yea, like you said, balancing in a game jam is difficult, which is ultimately why I just left it the way it is and focused on polishing the overal game more. I appreciate your comments though, always like chatting with a fellow dev about these sorts of things
Nice tower defence! I like the upgrade system and the speed up, sadly we didn't have time for it in our game. Really well made overall, I liked the models. Good job!
Thanks for playing! I'm glad you had fun. Time is always the main enemy in game jam games, so I totally understand that. Your game had some elements that I would've liked to have as well, like a more clear UI or indications of where to build.
Nice classic tower defence game.
I think it would be good to show where the player can place towers so that it is more clear for them. Instructions on how to play would also been good.
Thank you, glad you liked it! Absolutely agree with your feedback. Normally I always include a bit of instructions, but this time I was pressed for time doing everything else and just kind of hoped people would get it after trying it once :D. You're entirely right though, some instructions would've been better.
Nice spin on the dice rolling theme!
The game's very hard (maybe I'm unlucky) yet I had a good chunk of fun
Having the dice roll during a wave would be nice, and having some idea of what the stats of each tower are would help a lot as well
Thank you! Glad you liked it. The game is definitely not easy, but if you're really unlucky it can also just get more difficult because you didn't get enough money at the end ;). The tower stats is absolutely something I would've liked to make more clear, but was just something I had to slip due to time constraints. Dice rolling during the wave is something I've also heard before, might also be something I could do for a future version!
Very fun, had me hooked for a while trying to figure out the best combination. I think the twin cannons are the most powerful. For improvement, I think if you could earn coins during the waves, then the game will be more fun because you can actively improve and build towers even when the enemies are coming instead of having to wait for the tower building phase
You're spot on! Those are definitely a bit overpowered, especially with a range upgrade or two ;). That's true, the waves are a bit passive right now, maybe I should've just made any die roll that was shot down. Something to try for a next iteration for sure! Thanks for playing, glad you had fun!
I love the art. Maybe it could be a little bit more random, like a die
You're probably right! I tried to add some more RNG by having your reward depend on dice, but I definitely didn't explore that all the way through. Thanks for playing though!
Very cool tower defence game, really liked the dice giving you money at the end. The catapult and the crossbow both feel completely outclasses by the cannon and turret but it was fun spamming turrets and mowing down dice.
I'm glad you liked it! The turrets were definitely not all created equal and ideally I would've loved to buff the catapult a bit, just to give it some more value for money. The crossbow was supposed to be like a budget tower, but maybe I should've made it a bit more cheaper to really solidify that. But with the short timespan I had, I wasn't able to spend too long balancing everything unfortunately. Still, happy to hear you enjoyed your time with it. Thanks for playing!
A very nice tower defender game.
Thank you! Glad you liked it :)
Pretty good tower defense base game. The dice shower after every level is juicy. The fact that you can randomly not get enough money to buy the towers you need to progress feels weird for a strategic game but it still works really well so thats fine.
Haha yes, I entirely know what you mean. That was one element that definitely felt off to me as well, but I just wanted to run with it and see how it turned out. Plus I thought it would make the theme match up a bit better. In the end I do agree that the RNG of it can just screw you over sometimes or make things easier than they should be, but I'm glad you still enjoyed it!
I think getting screwed by RNG is totally fine in a game jam game. Overall the game is fun and expandable so good job.
What a great game! I had a lot of fun playing through it. I like the concept of the game and how the dice with more sides are tougher to kill but also have a chance to reward more coins. You did a great job of executing on your idea and the end result is a game that looks nice and plays really well.
If I were to offer any critique I would say that the game felt really difficult for me until I started building almost all turrets with a few cannons here and there. The other two tower types just didn't seem worth the money to me, but I'd be curious to know if anyone else had success with those. That said, it's a game jam so no it's no surprise that there might be some balancing tweaks to be made. Balance nitpicking aside, the game is great. Well done!
Thanks for the feedback! I definitely agree that balancing wasn't entirely on point here. One change I was planning on making is to make the catapult tower have an area of effect, so that it has more of a place in the game. For now I definitely agree that not all of the towers are equally useful. Still, I'm glad to hear you had fun playing it!
This was really fun, I feel like the theme was not used to its full potential here, and that RNG was what really made my runs survive longer, which is not really rewarding when you try being strategic with the tower placement. Still, this was a lot of fun and was really well made :))))
That's fair! I agree with your comment about RNG, but I felt that it would be more in the theme and I was just curious to see how it would play with that in mind. Thanks for playing and glad you had fun!
I love me a good tower defense and this sure hits the spot. I thought it was too difficult and that the other levels should be unlocked from the start given it's a jam game and you offer a level select. My strategy continued to evolve the more that I played but I wish it did something more with the theme. Proud to be a fellow Tower Defense dev in this jam!
That's a good point! I probably should've just opened up all of the levels from the beginning, like you said, I'll remember that for the next time I make a jam game with multiple levels. Glad to hear you liked it though and I'm curious to check yours out now, to see what you did with the tower defense genre!
Man oh man!
This game is great! I never would have thought to do a tower defense game. But this game pulled it off. Well done!
I loved playing it. It felt a little hard, but maybe I just suck at TD games.
Also, the idea of rolling dice to see the money you made is a great idea!
Really well done!
Thank you so much for your kind words! Glad you liked it.
It's definitely a tad on the difficult side, especially in the last level, so that's not necessarily down to your skills ;). I tried to balance it as best I could, but in the end it's hard to really make it fair in such a short time span.
