One of the most common theme in this jam, but this one is helped by the 3D nature of the design.
It just makes sense that the pips would be protruding from the ground, while the dice has hollow holes in it on where the pips should go. It seems so obvious, but this is the first game I saw that did this.
The controls was a bit disorienting at first, but you could easily overcome that after playing a few times.
Congrats on finishing the jam !
thanks so much for playing & the review :)
& yes we had some trouble getting the controls working how we wanted & it's evident that there is definitely room for more improvement in that area. It's good to know someone took note of that as I made sure they fit nicely into the die holes for that exact reason.
Chill puzzle game. Reminds me of similar puzzles involving the same mechanic in Mario Odyssey. Enjoyed the chill soundtrack.
Maybe more complex mechanics could be introduced to add another layer to the puzzles, something like blocks that push you without rotating you when you land on them, or blocks that rotate you a new direction every time you land on them? Just some ideas for how to expand what you already have :) I enjoyed what you had, and thought understanding the puzzles and objectives was very intuitive.
yeah lol we saw a mario odyssey mini game very similar to this after.
& yes we had some ideas that we would like to implement now after the jam and we might see about implementing the pushing a block that then doesn't rotate you idea; as that one sounds interesting.
Thanks for the review! Glad you enjoyed it
nice game with cool puzzles, but i found a bug in level 3 where you get completely stuck if you go to the leftmost corner, and also you can go through the walls which is probably not intended
thanks and ye the way we did collisions was a bit buggy because we did it out own way for reasons, thanks for the feedback though :)
Why the grass?
Was just the asset pack we used. We were gonna go for an island floating in the sky but game jam. So might change it to some sort of factory tile looking block after dunno.
What is the original title)
"dicey escapes?". We weren't really focused on the title and only thought of this at the end. And the ? was an accident by a team member; in that they were asking if we thought it was a good name. But we kept it specifically because I feel it helps convey the ambiguity behind the "lore" of the game
lmao I just looked at your game and ours is like the exact same
The most satisfying controls of the dice in this style of puzzles! Nice work!
Pretty tile assets too ^^
thanks so much is one of the things we take pride in
Nice music. Good game!
cheers
Cool game! I liked it, satisfying and chill, loved the music and style.
thanks so much
Nice game! could have more lvls but its sometimes better to have few good lvls than lots of rushed ones
& we also ran out of time to make more levels lol
oh man, No! I just start getting fun and it is over already! it is more than enough for a game Jam though.
I hope you will add more levels and game mechanics after the gam!
Good luck!
we're planning on it, glad you enjoyed:)
I got stuck outside of the level 2 and wasn't able to complete it. I really like the aesthetic though, super clean!
yeah we've been trying to fix that bug for a while now, we found that stopping completely before going over the finish on level 1 can help prevent the bug. Thank you, we are really proud of the astethic aside from the lighting bug
Super chill game!
It's a creative take on the theme and it's pretty fun too.
I also like how there's only three levels, definitely don't need more than that for a game jam. Like who has time to play 20 levels.
yeah lol and also as you said 20 levels is a lot of work
Nice game and concept. Though I clipped through third level sadly
Yep thats a known issue that's been fixed and will be in a later patch, glad you like it :)
I had the same idea, but yours has far better presentation as I've never really made a game before. Could benefit from a few more levels, but over all love the work.
Thanks that really means a lot. & if you keep going at it you start finding that those things you doubted about can become possible especially with some shameless use of YouTube tutorials to figure out how to do those things.
& we do plan on adding more levels it was just not our main focus being a game jam and all (as I'm sure you would imagine)
& unity is great for this kind of thing as well
Reminds me of that Flash game Bloxorz, a nice nostalgia trip!
well it was one of our inspirations lol
It was a nice game, tho I clipped through the grass or something in the last level and got stuck. Very relaxing, would be a neat full game!
Well we do plan on doing some more & we'll have a look into that bug
I enjoyed the puzzle aspect of the game, the use of the dice sides acting as a key is very unique. The music creates a calm atmosphere and the textures are simple yet satisfying to look at. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and would love to see more like it!
thanks so much, we're glad you enjoyed it. & we plan on adding more content soon as we have some ideas.
Pretty calm game, and also fits the theme well, good job :)
thanks glad you liked it :)
I'm not the best at logical puzzle games but was still an enjoyable game with good music.
We are so glad you enjoyed it, & you'll have to thank one of our mates for putting together that bopping soundtrack
This is a very creative use of dice. You managed to use something associated with randomness into a logical puzzle game. Well done.
thanks, we had our mishaps at times but we got there in the end.
