How does your game fit the theme?
Your role gets reversed every time you pass the middle of the screen. If you cross over to the right side, you are the defender of the Yin Yang. If you cross to the left side, you need to avoid the aggression of the Yin Yang.

Clever idea! I really liked the two complementary modality of playing it! Well done!

I like the presentation a lot! It’s pretty tricky though, but that’s not a bad thing. Good job!

Really fun game and a unique take on the "roles reversed" theme! Also great artwork/aesthetic and very polished overall. I think it would be really cool if the size of the white/black sides of the screen changed to match the balance as the game went on, it would be a cool visual to show the balance of the world changing and would also help give the player more time to react to the enemies as they get close to losing. Not sure if being more forgiving to the player is what you were going for with the arcade shooter style though lol. Great work!

Developer

Thanks a lot! We are already thinking of some improvements, and your opinion is appreciated :)

This was very cool. I am a huge sucker for a good aesthetic and I loved the aesthetic here. But more than that, I loved how heavily incorporated the aesthetic was into the gameplay. The idea of swapping between two zones to complete the two roles in the game is pretty fun, and requires good timing so as not to be detrimental. Sound wise the game sounds punchy, in a good way, and I think the music choice was pretty good. My big piece of feedback is that the zones are a bit to small, I think the camera should be zoomed out about 5-10% more, because sometimes especially on the black side, there was just too much too quickly to react. This is not major issue, and didn't happen frequently, but just something to think about if you choose to update the game after the jam is done. Thanks for the cool experience. I had fun.

Wow, thank you very much for the detailed review! We are very happy with our work considering this was our first jam and we are glad you enjoyed all aspects of it. We have already decided to keep adding on to this game and make it a more full release. The camera is something we will definitely look into since we have gotten other similar complaints about it. Thanks again for trying our game and please look forward to the updates! :)

This is an interesting take on the theme, and I love the artwork. The thing in the middle that looks like its chewing on bullets is so interesting to just look at. Good submission!

Developer

Thank you very much for the kind words! The artists really did a great job!

Thank you for submitting this to my stream ! It's a joy to play, very smooth. The only "minor" detail I could see is the balancing (spawning of the crystals seems a bit low for a jam entry). However this is actually compensated by the fact they persist over gameplay, which means you can gradually grind to get them ! Maybe not the best design for a game jam format where most players lose focus after a few minutes, but nonetheless this is a very solid entry. The pixel art is amazing and I'm still confounded by the magic you've used to iterate so smoothly between the black and white, really appreciate this entry. Lovely !

Developer(+1)

Awesome really happy you enjoyed it and it was a good learning for us to see someone other than the development team play this :D
Will definitely keep the strategy of staying in the middle in mind, and find some way to rewards players for being more "Exlplorative" let's say XD

I really like the art style for this game, especially the Yin Yang's design

Thanks, really glad you enjoyed it :D

I get the concept, good art style and I think it's one of the most unique from what I've seen, but I wish the pacing of the "dark side" was more balanced, as your character needes to be moving from side to side to get more bullets and most items to them go back to attach on enemies (it could be a "me" problem as well, but I wish the first level started a little slower at least). Good job, tho.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah the pacing is difficult to balance in 48 hours, and we scraped our first idea after the first 5 hours so it was even tougher XD
But we are happy with the result and will polish, and release a post-jam version :D

art is awesome. got addicted lol. Great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! Hope you check it out once after the Jam, when we'll release the full version!

I love the aesthetic and sounds! I think this was quite creative and fits well. The mechanics themselves would have been a little more engaging if there was a secondary ability, or if the upgrades could happen during the game. I played a few times and didn't get enough for any skill tree upgrades, but maybe I'm just bad d:

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing the game! We had some additional plans, for timed skills, (pressing e to become invulnerable for a few seconds) and stuff like that. But it was not enough time to do that :/ Post jam version will have some more gameplay elements.
And no, you are not bad, the balancing is XD

Fits the theme well

Thanks for playing the game on stream! Fantastic to get direct feedback like that!

Nice gameplay loop, and nice aestethic ! Congratulation to all the team :p ! It's a strong idea !

Super addicting gameplay, the sound effects and screen shake add a lot the experience, and the upgrades encourage you to keep playing.

Developer

Thanks! Awesome enjoyed it.

Love the music and concept. Fits the theme in the gameplay itself, rather than just theming it after something that's been flipped which is what most ppl did. Fleshed out this could be really cool.

Developer

Thanks, very happy to hear that :) Definitely, we could do more with it once the jam is completely over :)

Nice game mechanics and super fitting visuals! Congratulations! I've loved it

Seeing your game, i think letting the enemies do less damage if they are already hurt would be an improvement, but is not necessary.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks! Also, very good point there are really a lot of balancing improvements we thought of, but didn't have the time to implement.

A good game. I think the concept fits perfectly in the theme  and it's really fun. The visuals are amazing too.

Developer

Thank you! Happy to hear!

Very well done!! It's a great game. Honestly, if I'm picky, the only thing I have to say is that the prices of the boosts should be in the game, not the description (and they are expensive af xd)

Developer(+1)

Thanks, it means a lot! Yes, we have a bug xD If you don't have enough gems, it doesn't display the price of boosts. Unfortunately, we realized that too late.

Very fun game, the playable loop fits very well with the theme and I loved the risk-reward. Good job!
