I managed to beat it once I realized there was no real reason to ever detach from the rapid fire carriage, final score 5825. Maybe there’s a better strategy involving more detaching that would yield a higher score but I’m not seeing it personally.

Overall I really like the concept, the art and sound is really polished considering the time frame. I’m a big fan of the look and feel of it and the gameplay was pretty compelling as well. It all works well as a whole and it’s quite competently scoped and executed.

Developer

Thanks a lot for your feedback :)

Scoring has been done really quickly with just you're remaining health, so this definitely needs rework, and we didn't have enough incentive yet to leave the train. But we will address those points and other things as well in the future :)

Wow! Beautiful game!

The visuals and the sound are amazing, especially for a game jam. I see that you have several team members, so that makes it more understandable. Otherwise, I would be really doubting how you guys put this together. It's insane! I would love to learn more about the development process.

I like the concept of being attached to a ship that's moving. For a game jam, the gameplay here is really solid. I think you guys should keep working on this. I think you could turn this into a more level-based game with checkpoints, introduce more enemy types, give more of a reason to leave and reenter the ship, have the ship change speeds, rotate, switch directions, etc.

I had a situation where enemies were attacking the part of the ship that was off screen, and while I could hear them, I couldn't see the damaged part of the ship or the enemies attacking it. I like the size of the camera zoom, so I wouldn't change that. Instead, maybe make the sound for the enemies attacking off screen distinct. Also, you could add a UI showing the ship and which parts of the ship are getting damaged.

Another idea is to lower the health for the player's ship and for the enemies. This way, the player would have to respond quickly to threats, and the threats would only last very little time. But if the player messed up, the consequences would be almost immediate. Pair this with frequent checkpoints and immediate loading times, and you have a fast-paced experience. Of course, this is going to make the game more challenging. I understand why you would want to keep the game more balanced for a game jam. But as a full game, I think this time-to-die change would make the game even more exciting.

Congrats to the team on this submission. I think you guys will do well.

I would love to hear your rating / comments on my game as well, so I can know what to improve.

Developer(+1)

Hey, thank you! I just tried your game and I tried to give you some feedback about what you could improve!

Back on our game:

Yes, we're a relatively "big team" for a game jam. It's not easy to jam with a bigger team, but if you have good processes, communication and if the team members are experienced, it's quite amazing to see what you can achieve in less than 48 hours!

Our processes are quite classic: start small, aim for a quick First Playable Prototype, start to integrate every kind of asset as soon as possible to mitigate risks, have the design one or two steps ahead of the production and don't be afraid to cut things if they won't make the build better (quality over quantity).

About your feedback, I totally agree and we're already working on some things that would solve the issue with enemies attacking the non-visible part of the train. We'll also add ideas that we cut and that will give more incentive for the player to detach for the train (e.g pick up bonuses).

I like the idea of reducing wagons & enemies HP, however, it's maybe not the direction we'll be taking if we make this a real game, we'll see!

Thanks for your feedback! :)

Developer

Thanks a lot for this well-thought feedback! As said on other comments, we are planning to continue working on it, we have another version coming up soon that is going to address some bugs and some problem with the movement of the ship.

We have some planning on working on different levels, with different atmosphere, enemies, challenges, etc... Also different ideas on how to add incentive on getting off the train, change the coach you're attached to, etc...

We know sometimes it can be hard to follow up on where enemies are, especially when they're behind you, that is something we're not addressing in our next version since it's a bit more complicated to approach.

As you said we wanted for the game jam to be doable and not have a hard challenge, it was supposed to get the idea of the game and what it could do first. We will address the balance of it in future release.

Thanks again for your time and feedback :)

Obviously very pretty :)!! Though it's quite hard to aim in the 3D moving environment and there's no reason to ever leave the comfort of the ship. Other than that, nicely done!

Small note: please mark the download as Windows, it really helps the Itch app users like me and Mark :P.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to test the demo and for your feedback.

We're improving the aim right now because we agree, it's not easy to aim in the Jam build.

I checked the download options and we forgot to tick the windows download box for our last build, it's fixed now!
Thank you for bringing that to our attention!

Those are some awesoommmeeeeee visuals.

The game looks great! I really like the concept, I just feel like you didn't push it far enough. Like, most of the time I didn't have a need to deattach from the train. So, most of the time I spent attached to Rapidfire, firing enemies like a turret without even moving. If only there was a real need to deattach, like to pick up a repair kit or a shield for your train or a powerup. And another thing is that near the end the amount of enemies if way too much, in my opinion)

I really think you should continue developing this game after the jam ends. It has so much potential, hell, I would even consider buying it. For me it feels like a nice twist on a TD genre, where you're defending a moving objective. It can even be a roguelite, where every run is unique by collecting some random powerups and going through different bioms. I mean, there are so much possibilities with this game )

Developer

Thanks for your feedback! We know we didn't push it far enough... yet ^^ Well we only had 48h :D

We are planning to put more content in the game, add incentive to detach from the train, change the coach you're attached to, pick ups... So quite a few things incoming after the jam :) Please keep following our updates!

Developer

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to try our game and post here!

I totally agree with you. In fact, we even created the 3D asset for the repair kit but we couldn't add it to the game before the deadline. We also got this idea of a Rogulite working to some extent as FTL:  you'd collect new wagons and be able to make your own train composition. It's great to see that many people have similar ideas about how we could push this demo further.

Thanks for your feedback Rommat!

You got yourself another follower, guys! ^_^

Sorry, I'm not really familiar with how following works on itch. I guess that NebulaCollectif is your common account, so I followed it, and I hope that this is enough to get updates about your game in my Feed.

Developer(+1)

Ah ah, we're not super familiar with it either. But yes, you're right, NebulaCollectif is our common account so that's probably the easiest way to get future updates!

Thank you ^^

Pretty cool idea! Really well done within the timeframe.

With some more polish and getting the enemies to attack more parts of the ship (Mostly every enemy attacked the front) and some clearer abilities you could have a great game on your hands!
Well done

Developer(+1)

Yeah, both of those ideas are in, they just need polishing as you said :)

Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+2)

Wow, that was really fun! Great idea! Work on the polish, and if you add more content, that could be a very impressive game! Nice job in this short period!

Developer

Thanks a lot! We want to improve the game for it to be in a better state, we have quite a few ideas to improve it :)

Submitted(+2)

Really nice! I immensely enjoyed it, felt a bit overwhelmed at times, but the satisfaction when you get the train to the end is great. Also the graphics, even though they are quite simple, they really nicely convey the futuristic style. Great game, I could definitely see it getting released somewhere after the jam, when it gets a little bit more content. I feel that making additional powerups on train carts, that you could unlock and then choose before embarking, while still being limited in the number of slots on the train, would add that extra depth that'd make it a really great game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for your feedback! Yeah we have quite a few ideas to put in the game if enough people want to make it happen after the jam. Hopefully we'll be able to polish it ;)

Developer(+1)

Hey! I'm glad you enjoyed our game, thanks for the kind words :)

We had more content that we couldn't add to this build, due to limited time, and additional powerups on train carts were part of it (we have a cool "rocket launcher wagon" 3D model waiting to be added to the game). I had the same idea about "choose your train composition" before the mission starts, so it's great to see other people would enjoy it, thanks! ^^

Submitted(+2)

Very good looking and the intro is really catchy! I did 5010 pts ;) Congratz to the team!
NB: Coucou Hervé ! :D

I really enjoyed the aesthetic of your game! It was fun to play, but snappier movement would have been awesome. Good job!

Would really appreciate it if you tried out my game!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah movement is one of the area of improvements we're looking into :)

Submitted(+2)

I love how well the game looks and feels!

Developer

Thanks a lot :)

Submitted(+2)

That's a really strong title screen! Such a dramatic angle and with those epic cinema drums haha so good. It really gets you into the world straight away. I wish there was more snappy control over the ship, I wanted to zoom around blasting enemies rather than stay by the train. Awesome work!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, movement is something we want to improve as well :)

Submitted(+2)

This is heaps cool! Nice work on the art and its a pretty unique idea! Awesome!

Developer

Thanks a lot! Happy you liked it :)

Submitted(+2)

Outstanding atmosphere! Can really tell a lot of work went into this for a jam, well done! I found it to be a bit challenging, but an interesting gameplay concept for sure!

Developer

Thanks for your review! It is definitely challenging, hard to tweak on 48h ^^

Submitted(+2)

Really great art and atmosphere. Looks great!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Submitted(+2)

I love the atmosphere you made, absolutely impressive! It a little hard to hit enemies tho, OwO. if you have more time on tuning and tweaking, this game must be a star!

Developer

Thanks! Our artists did an awesome job to make it look so good ^^

And yes, it's still a little hard to hit, mostly because the train is going pretty fast (even if it's not so obvious). So even with fast projectiles and a generous hitbox, it's still too hard to hit, I agree. I'd really love to find a solution and tweak it. If enough people seem to like the demo, I'm sure I could convince some team member to help fix that with me (hu hu).

Cheers

Developer

Thanks! As Hervé said, we know it's definitely not perfect, but we hope to have some time to tweak and make it better :)

Submitted(+3)

Absolutely impressing what you guys achieved in such a short time span! Thanks for all the hard work to serve us such a good looking game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad you liked it. It was a lot of work but we're proud of what we made! ^^

Developer

Thanks a lot! Having a team of 9 people is what enabled us to deliver such a game. Managing the team was also another challenge of this jam xD

(+3)

You achieved a lot in 2 days, respect ! Graphics are very impressive i like the color tones you used. The "tower defense" feeling is fun and original. The scoring at the end of the run makes it mysterious and exciting, it makes me want to improve.

Developer(+1)

Awesome! Glad you like it :)

Submitted(+2)

Such a gorgeous game ! It is theme fitting and easily understandable, the soundtrack is supporting a strong art direction. It would've been interesting if the energy management part was a bit more prominent.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for the kind words! We wanted to do much more to put more incentive of moving unhooked from your ship and manage your energy, but... 48 hours :D

Developer(+1)

Yes, I'd love to tweak that if in a potential post-jam build!

Thanks for your feedback :)

Submitted(+2)

Amazing graphics and neat overall feel. Main criticism would be that there is very little reason to ever let go of the rapid fire mode, which means most of the game youre just sitting there holding down Mouse 1.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! Lot of things we wanted to do but couldn't. There is still some incentive to swap coach if you want a better score. But yeah definitely not enough... yet!

Developer

Yes absolutely, we had good plans to push you to let go the rapid-fire mode but we were short on time to add them.

Thanks for your feedback!
