A very unique take on breakout and a very wholesome game, with a powerful message. Love it, great job!

The greatest game of breakout I've ever played!

I love that you were able to take the task and make it work with your previous submissions in such an unexpected way. You were already killing it with the voiceovers and this was just a perfect match for this round. The twist in gameplay was so clever and instantly put a smile on my face.

But knowing you were going to let me attack the words, I think you should have selected a blockier font, or at at least had the paragraphs extend  further to the edges of the screen, or maybe even center the text so that it would be even more like breakout.

Are there more than two rounds? I cleared the second round words but then I was just stuck:

I even restarted and tried using "delete" to clear all the blocks to move on and delete wasn't working for me. I'm not sure if that's because I'm playing on a Macbook and somehow the delete key input is different?

Despite that, this was one of  my favorite entries. Really well done.

Wow you always seem to find unknown bugs haha!  Not sure if that is to do with Mac or not!  There are definitely other rounds.  Did you use the delete key before clearing the bricks or just after it didnt seem to progress? Considering that doesnt look like an HTML5 crash for GMS2 (the screen would just turn black) it looks like it just didnt progress like it should have.

In the end you didnt miss much except for being able to duplicate the 'ball' on the final round in order to clear things faster (well and also the story I guess which is a big thing for this round O.o).  I had so much I wanted to include but so little time in the end, even with the 2 weeks haha.  I still have yet to leave myself ample time for polish with jams and things like your font suggestion probably would have come in to play.  I tend to pick something to try that I've never done when I do jams to see if I can do it and this time it was converting strings to breakout blocks haha.  Thanks for checking it out!

I am a winner indeed!

I just tried on my PC laptop and the "delete" key worked fine for clearing blocks and I was glad I was able to finish the rest of the story.

Haha neat, thanks for checking it out!

I liked it. It's definitely more fun to destroy words than blocks of colour like you do in the traditional breakout. There was a little bug I encountered when I ended up getting stuck between 2 words, which didn't break for some strange reason. Other than that, can't fault it at all and I had a great time playing it and the story was great to listen to

Thanks for playing!  It definitely could have used more variety (powerups/skills/etc) but in the end it is what it is!  I encountered that bug right before submitting and coded a finite timed life to those duplicates (I'm assuming it was a duplicated that got stuck) in order to not make the level unable to finish haha.

I really like this mechanic.  It's a cool idea to combine breakout with words, and it's really fun to get stuck on the top and get a bunch of words down at once. I'd say the story is pretty good, but the game probably could have been a bit shorter as there isn't exactly much variety you add to it later on other than just giving the blocks more health. Solid and fun concept though!

Developer

The original idea was to have some of the different 'attacks' that make up the ball have crit chances and abilities depending on the word or type of discouraging statement.  Unfortunately I only ended up having a short time to work on it!  In hindsight I think making it a Galaga type game rather than breakout would have been better too but oh well!  Thank you so much for playing!

The story itself wasn't 100% engaging, but I still really liked it. Two minor things I would suggest: Sometimes the ball would bounce back horizontally (change direction) when hitting a block vertically and vice versa,  this was annoying when I'm right above all the blocks and I'm about to destroy all of them at once when it suddenly turns around, and maybe reconsider the title? To me it seems completely unrelated to what the game is actually about. Maybe "Worry Out" as a pun on Brick Out or "Self confidence restoration device" or something like that. Cool beans!

Yeah with my little time I used GameMaker's built in bouncing and it acts really weird sometimes.  I should have just taken the time to set it up with physics but  oh well!  The story sort of stems from the first two games (which is why I kept the same name) but yeah, it could have been better haha.
