Cute game! The storytelling is by far my favorite part! Is very clean and reads well.
I think the aiming could do with some work though. It feels a bit awkward to have to use both WASD and arrows in this way personally, and might have preferred if it was either tied to mouse position or just in the player's facing direction.
I also noticed that its easier to get through the game without fighting any enemies, so may be something to consider for the future.
Still loved it tho!
19 seconds! Fun game!
Very nice visuals, animations, and cute character sprites. Maybe shooting is too slow compared to movement? Or movement too fast? It is easier to outrun enemies than deal with them )
This game is good at telling a story without words. The art is good too.
Thank you for playing!!!!!!
Great opening sequence - excellent way to setup the story without any dialogue. I like twin stick shooters, but having to use the keyboard to aim and shoot was really hard - I wish I could have used my mouse. I'm afraid I died a bunch and didn't get very far in this game, but I think just adding some other control options would help a lot. I hope you keep working on it.
Thank you for playing both this game and my game for round 1!!!
That was fun. I actually managed a pacifist run after going through throwing birds at everything :)
Good birbs. Would throw again.
Hahaha, Pacifist run is truly a viable strategy in this game, I did the same when testing. Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for playing my game in both this round and the previous round!
a bit of a bug found by mistake then duplicated. get stuck between the robot and the first green barrel the robot stops attacking you so you dont die but prevents you from moving from that position. not criticizing just reporting it to you. all around great game though loved the whole thing the story the birds the birds are projectiles didn't finish though side scrolling games like that just arent really my cup of tea but still great game.
You're completely right! I tried to recreate it and its actually quite easy to find. Thanks for playing the game, even if its not your cup of tea!
Really nice way of presenting the narrative in the beginning! Awesome art too. I also liked the way the enemy projectiles kind of wobbled forward, much more interesting than a simple straight trajectory.
I felt like the control scheme could be further simplified by not needing to press space, simple press left to shoot left, up to shoot up e.t.c. I got used to it quickly but can't find a reason to have picking direction and firing on different buttons.
Well done!
You make a really good point about the controls, I guess I didnt really think about it, but theres never a reason to not shoot, so its weird to have a shooting button, thank you for your feedback and kind words!!
This really hit the theme perfectly to me. The story, animal, and projectiles all really flowed together and the game had an incredible amount of polish. Great job!!
Thank you for playing and for the kind words!
Really fun story and great animation. I love how much love went into the art, it's cool how the dialogue is written in ideogram so you don't have to worry about localization haha. Great classic beat-em-up gameplay and the bird projectiles were a smart way of interpreting the theme.
I found myself wishing I could aim and shoot with the mouse but I can see how the arrow keys and wasd were supposed to mimic the classic analog sticks of an arcade machine.
Thank you for all the kind words, the first week of the jam I had no computer so all I could do was make the art on my tablet, this ended up leading to some really nice looking art in my opinion!
Aiming with the mouse would have been interesting, maybe I will add it in the future
The animal projectiles was a great use of the main mechanic! It was tricky to fight the robots that shoot back though, so I ended up just running past everything. Loved the story as well, very simple and easy to follow!
Those robots are indeed hard to fight, if I had put in more time I might have made it a bit different...
Thanks for playing and enjoying!
Very cute game, nice story!
I find it a bit difficult to play on a keyboard and used joy2key to play with 2 analog sticks, it felt much better and easier. Maybe including a dual stick control option be a good idea.
That would have been a good idea! Wish I thought of that sooner...
Thanks for playing!!!
Lovely art and charming game. It's creative to combine the animal and the projectile. The story is simple but clear. I think gameplay-wise there's no reason to fight robots right now. The reward time reduction dropped by robots can easily be saved if you just run to the end.
Still a great game, good job!
Thanks for the kind words, thought I would get two birds with one stone by combining the enemies and projectiles haha
Glad to hear you enjoyed the game!
Having the birds that are part of the story being the projectiles in the game is a great idea that worked very well. Fun game!
Thank you for playing my game! Both this round and the previous round!
This was great! Very cute. My only complaint is that you can just avoid the enemies all together. I think a future update with "boss rooms" or "clear the enemy rooms" would be a wonderful addition. As it is, this is a great proof of concept!
I agree in hindsight that some sort of need to kill the enemies would have been a good idea!
Thanks for playing my game!
I thought you did a really good job of showing and not telling the story. Organic bad, Robot good. The visuals were so crisp! Nice little backing track as well. After getting my ass handed to me by our robot friends I decided to sprint my way through the level, and saved the princess in record time. Great job, this looked amazing.
Thank you for playing the game!
I'm glad to hear the narrative made it through.
The game is a bit too hard honestly, I thought the enemies would fill up the level nicely, but it just ended up making it quite hard haha
