Hello people! One of the devs here :3 If you're reading this I just wanted to tell you that the cards and endings were supposed to be illustrated but appearently sometime between godot 3.2 and 3.5, the warnings that some methods of file tree traversal were dropped, while the "functionality" persists. (Meaning, we dynamically load some image files but it only works when starting from the editor, not the exe, appearently)

As such, the build we submitted isn't 100% what we intended to show. There will be an updated version shortly after the jam ends if you're curious. Because if you already like the art style, this will be even more of that!!

I love the visual aesthetic so much! The ui is particularly sick and juicy! Had a lot of fun exploring around the universe you made.

Good work :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much :3 Turns out the build broke without us realizing, so when the jam ends tomorrow, we'll post an updated version that has even more of our visuals, if you want to check it out :)

Submitted

I'd love to! Looking forward to it :)

Developer

New build is now up on the site :)

Nice visuals. Not sure what happened at the end, got stuck in the new universe (blank white screen) talking to sticky bug. Did I not collect enough cards first? However, exploring space is fun!

Developer

YEA ABOUT THAT! I posted a comment in this comment section but the tldr is that godot kinda broke the dynamic visuals that were supposed to give you an ending scene -.-

So check back in like 31 hours when the jam ends and we'll hopefully have a version that has actual endings

When I first started the game, I just got lost in space and did not understand what to do. After I restarted the game, I realized that all this time I had a compass in my character. In the game I liked the visual and audio component

Submitted(+1)

I like a lot how you managed to make the interface juicy ! Sometimes the movement of the buttons moves them too far from the cursor, so it hovers the button immediately, but that's not a big problem.

Really cool dialogues, and general mood ! I got lost a bit at first but it felt like it was part of the game, and added to the feeling of being a little thing wandering around in a big universe.

this game is just good, feels the vibes let me a relaxing feeling while playing, it has a nice juicyness to the gameplay and gameplay while wierd it's feels okayish i belived i could be polished little more but still is good, the story gives some outer will vibes and i love it, really good game

My first try I launched off into space and had no idea what I was supposed to be doing. I floated around for a while and, to be honest, almost just gave up and moved on to another game. I'm glad I didn't though, because once I tried again and figured out the 'compass' it's actually a very cool little narrative game. I don't really understand the ending though. The whole screen turned white and it seemed like I could still move around (based on the sound effects) but I couldn't see anything. Is that what's supposed to happen?

Also, would I be correct guessing that The Little Prince and The Outer Wilds were both inspirations?

Developer

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the narrative! The ending is supposed to fade to all white and then fade into a final ending dialogue, but it takes about 20 seconds for that to happen so maybe you didn't wait enough, or the game broke (which could also very well be lmao)

In terms of inspiration, I can't tell you much because the other person on our team did the writing, but I'll try and get him to share some of the details on that :p

Developer (1 edit)

While not an active inspiration, I have played and greatly enjoyed The Outer Wilds so I'm not gonna argue it hasn't had an effect ^^ I've never read The Little Prince though. Another source of inspo, however was Disco Elysium, especially in writing the Stickbug, Mushroom, and a little bit for the Hothead

Submitted(+1)

Nice, I can see that DE is awesome. I definitely recommend reading the little prince! It's a very short read (an hour?) and I think you'd like it

The atmosphere (no pun intended) was so good in this one! The artistic direction was consistent and everything managed to give off the "infinite space and endless travel" vibe. Shame on me though, I got lost just after the hot head, I was just enjoying using the slingshot to travel at hair-rising speeds :p. I didn't find anything after that, so I think the game could benefit from giving at least some sort of direction, cause the environment really is that big. But the movement felt very satisfying, and add to it the atmosphere, caused me to enjoy just moving around without purpose. Nice one!

Your game have a unique vibe I liked very much! The gravity-based controls take a few try, but once you get it, it’s super enjoyable.

Eventually got lost in infinity, will try to reach the Sun next time.

Great sound design and visuals. My only critique is that it could use a bit more direction as far as where to go. I know it's meant to be explorative but i got stuck in the void of space for awhile. Anyways great game, great job.

The mood of the game is amazing, Music, writing and visuals are really unique and well crafted for a jam!
But I've got lost pretty quickly in the vast emptiness of space :'( losing my cards and my progression... I'm not sure what the cards do or which one I've collected.

But just as a contemplative interactive experience, I had a great time! I wasn't expecting to have this kind of metaphysical journey during a game jam ^^
Good job!

Developer

It's great to hear you had a pleasant experience! If you're curious about terminating the story: The cards ultimately trigger different endings; Once you've completed your journey through the system, you can talk to the sun to conclude the story :)

trying to escape the planets' gravity was really fun and satisfying, and the characters were fun to talk to. however, there should be some limits in the playground. but overall great game!

Developer

Haha yea, the infinite nature of the play area is the one negative thing that keeps popping up in feedback but I'm glad you still had a good time with the world!

Submitted(+2)

Beautiful setting! Very nice traveling around space. I know we're talking about space here, but some border would have been nice! I think I got really lost and found no more planets to visit. I think I might have heard a sound indicating that something was near once, is that correct?

You really went all in on the juice here :D
I think the buttons could have chilled out a little, they were almost hard to click on because all the juice.

I really like what you made with the gravity and traveling!

Are the regions of interest all pretty close to the start?

Cool submission, I'm impressed with the space mechanics and how it looked and felt.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I definitely agree on the border thing, right now it's fairly subtle but at some point the background gets pitch black if you're really far out from any points of interest, and yea, they're all around where you start :3

Most sounds are just ambient, but thank you for mentioning this! (The only proximity-based sounds are with characters but y'know, you'll know when you're with them because you'll be next to them)

Submitted

ah, i noticed the change in background and thought maybe i'm lost.

I'll try and stick to the center when I play again :-)

So what did the cards do? I ended up in a white scene which I guess was the end? Although it didn't end.

Submitted(+2)

Graphically, this game is great. The movement feels really smooth and the sling-shotting sound never felt repetitive. The characters had a lot of personality and the writing was good.  This game is great although it was kind of easy to not know where you are going.

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the slingshotting and writing :)

Not knowing where you're going is something others have pointed and and probably will continue to do so, which is totally fair :/ There's literally no boundary on the play area, you just have your little proximity compass around you to see where other planets are
