Funny game, it seems simple at first but ultimately it's quite challenging to bring these boxes to their destination, it's quite relaxing to travel between the two areas even it would have been cool to have more visual variety to make the trip less repetitive but it's a good jam game overall, nice job!
Fun little game! really dig how you did your water background. Controls where a bit odd and for some reason I had troubles going down sometimes? not all the time. Or maybe the inverted nature was confusing me...not sure.
Now was it me? or did the jelly fish and fish dance to the music....I stopped and just watched them for a moment, and it looked like they moved back and forth to the music. if not, you the ironic movement timing with the music works really well.
for more Gameboy astethicness. i would try to avoid doing any scaling with your sprites. i had a hard time figuring out what to do with my bubbles but ended up drawing them to the pixel ratio needed.
Definitely could be expanded into something more!
Thanks a lot for giving such thoughtful feedback! The controls are definitely unnecessarily complicated, especially when movement is a main focus of this game. We will simplify it for future iterations.
As for the fishes dancing to the music, it was a happy coincidence in that their movement cycles is around twice as fast as the music beat, so it often randomly syncs up with the music. I'm glad it worked out!
Great feedback about the Gameboy aesthetics. As I worked on this game I slowly noticed that scaling and rotation aren't great for such a low resolution since the result will be blurred and hard to see. Will definitely keep this in mind for the next GBJam :)
Nice concept! The aesthetics really gives the feel that you're underwater. One issue: the arrows looked a bit weird when rotating, so maybe a minimap or radar would be nicer.
Thanks for the feedback! I didn't consider how rotations can affect sprites for such a low resolution so I will keep that in mind for future GBJams :)
It is like Subculture demake for GameBoy :) Cool visual effects with bubbles - it really brings that underwater feel.
Fun control scheme
I enjoyed the music and the mood of navigating in the ocean.
The controls were a bit weird and not having a background made it hard to understand how fast I was moving.
Thanks for the feedback! Lack of any stationary background does makes it a bit hard to gauge distance and speed. I will look into these issues
I wasn't too sure what to do, but the vibe is cool. Lovely graphics. Not sure if those rotating sprites conform to the gambeboy resolution or not, but I didn't mind :D.
Thanks for checking it out and nice catch! I relied on my library for viewport scaling to the required aspect ratio and should have paid more attention to the actual pixel density. As recommended by the discord community, I've uploaded a small postfix to conform to the 160px x 144px density. :)
