Fun game, the pixel art is very nice and i liked the premise of the game, but as another user mentioned, the way the enemies spawn should be a bit more randomized, but if you do that you may find that the enemie's speed might be a bit too high and it then becomes too easy for the player to get surrounded and die.

Cheers, cool submission and i hope this helps! :D

Really well done! I've always wanted to be a candle and be John Wick, should've known: James Wick!

Developer(+1)

thank you!  And thanks for playing!

Nice pixel art and music :p
Adding more variety to ennemies could improve the game IMO, like randomizing how ennemies appear and adding 1-2 more HP to big ennemies to make them tough

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing. I agree. There's a lot that could be done with this.

i loved this game! it took me a second to realize the elevator only opened if i killed all the enemies... i thought i could speedrun and dodge them all, but alas. I liked that the big bosses indicated "okay this spawn door is done," because that helped me know if i could move on. I think the controls were super intuitive and easy to use. my favorite sound was the "oof" of the enemies dying. i thoroughly enjoyed this tale of flames, hamsters, and revenge. good job on the submission!

Developer

I'm glad you like it.  Thanks for playing!!

The idea with the candle was fun, and the dying animation is creative. I really liked it.

Thank you!

Cool game, the music, sounds and art are fantastic! The enemies killed me too quickly to make it past the first level, but I can still appreciate it!

Had a lot of fun playing this game. I got to Level 3 and I found a door that I thought would take me to the next level but it didn't seem to open? Anyway I loved the sound effects, music and art and how it all game together. It really gave me a kind of nostalgic vibe, like I was back in an arcade playing a classic arcade game, and thats a really special feeling to have created. I think theres a lot of potential here, and I noticed that you said the only assets you used for sound samples which means you did the art yourself? I really appreciate that, especially for the main character and the death animation. This is really a great game and it's got a lot of potential I reckon for you to develop it into something more fully fledged that you could even commercialize. Great job.

wow thank you so much!

And yes I did the sprites myself.  The animations ended out looking much better than expected.

Also level three has an enemy spawn point somewhere out of the way so you have to find it before the elevator will open.  Maybe I'll add a compass for something like that in the future

Fun game!
Maybe add some variety in enemy appearence. It's easy to shoot them at spawning points.

thanks for playing!

Great job finishing the game. I liked the art, especially the animations of the bad guys falling to the ground. That last stage was tough. I think I broke the button on my mouse. Haha.

Cool game. Love the bobbing head movement. Gave me Johnny Bravo vibes. Well done.

Great work! I love the little dudes in suits! The later levels are quite a challenge!!

Developer(+1)

thank you!  Glad you like it.

Wow, very creative to have the character be named James Wick and be a candle (wick as in a candle wick)
John Wick stands no chance against this dude lol B)

The gameplay and music and everything is also spot on!

Developer

thank you very much!

Ah, the character is a flame. Glad the hamster is okay at the end. Great submission!

Developer

thank you!!

Very solid game, congratulations ! The controls are great, the music is a banger and the pun is hilarious. Also the dynamic lights are a very cool and thematic effect.
One suggestion that I have would be intermediate doors in the level that only unlock when the room is clear, because right now we can just run straight to the end of the level and trigger the spawning of all the ennemies at once.

Developer

thanks!  And yes that would be a great addition.

Good job! great fun to play and pacing is really good. also like the game re-starting at the current level makes a big difference. Well done and thanks for playing my game as well!

Developer

Thanks!!

The art looks great from the screenshots but I can't play it on mac ):

Developer(+1)

sorry about that.  I wouldn't be able to test it on Mac but maybe it can still be built?  I'll check into it

I'm on a mac, the web version should work on all devices that have access to a browser. If it's running slowly on your end though, then it might have to do with the type of browser you're using. For example, Firefox tends to run browser games slower than chrome

Submitted(+1)

Yeah, the web version works for me(: I don't think it was there at first though, so that's why I was asking.

Funky music and great gameplay! My favorite level by far was the one where you had to explore the map for some bit (the third one I think).

Developer

Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Liked the mechanics and the strategy behind clearing each level, and it looks great - very nice job on the game!

Developer

thank you so much.

I loved the parody narrative! Also, i think your game might be the first one i played this jam where the player IS the threat forcing others into a last stand, so kudos for that!

I think the projectiles were well done, having the illumination shader on them matched the theme of you being a candle!

And i echo the other gameplay sentiments mentioned by others (variation of spawn pos and types etc)

Solid entry!

Developer

thanks for playing and for the feedback!
