Nice game. I like the visual effects / shader on the screen.
Mechanics is ok too, but a bit difficult to get at the beginning.
Sounds of infected servers is really stressful. I know that it is intended to make feel the urge where the operator is in, but it is a little bit annoying.

Nice idea, original gameplay!

This was a great game, well done! I think because there was such a short time limit that you really didn't have time to analyze the words unless you got 4 of the letter correct right away. If you wanted to make it a bit easier, you could remove some of the words. But great job!

really cool idea.  i love hacking games and word puzzles, so this was perfect for me.  unfortunately, i found it too difficult to keep up with all the hacks.  as other comments have mentioned, it would be cool if you didn't have to keep typing 'connect' and 'analyze'.  maybe keyboard shortcuts or abbreviations, like 'cd' for change directory in DOS?  it would allow players more time for thinking about the puzzles instead of guessing.  nice work, though!

This was a very cool game. I really got into it, but dang is it hard. But that's a good thing!

I truly think my only nit pick would be that if I was a server admin doing this role, you'd best believe I would have a command that would connect and analyze the server at the same time lol. The amount of times I misspelled analyze while rushing to get to the next server really slowed me down. And then I lost the DNS servers, and all was lost lol. But I really enjoyed this one! The keyboard noises especially felt great.

Great job!

Thanks for playing! In the early development process I had another idea about the game, and the analyze command had a different approach. However, while testing it with my friends, I found that the layer of  difficulty added by the need of type the command while you are trying to type fast was funny.

cool!

Thanks for trying it!

I love this game and the concept is very original. I like the sounds. The difficulty is pretty hard, but I like it. A suggestion: For the passwords part, I initially thought I was supposed to create a sentence with patterns of words. But after some tries, I realized it was just one word, and you have three attempts. Are the passwords completely random? I think it would be a good idea to include some patterns for the construction of the passwords, but it's just an idea or maybe I didnt get it ?  Great job, guys!

Thanks for playing! The algorithm to take the passwords is:

1.- From a dictionary I pick a random password. All words have 6 letters.

2.- From the same dicitionary I pick 3 random passwords which has at least 3 letters in common with the password.

3.- Same as above but 3 words with 2 letters in common and 3 words with 1 letter in common. Then 2 words with no letters in common to complete 12 words.

So one little trick is that sometimes you "see" some words that looks the same, and one of those is 99% of the times the correct password.

That was absolutely stressful and so much fun. Wow. I barely survived.
I think the intrusion noise was a bit too loud, but the gameplay was overall really fun and one of the most fun games if not the most fun in the entire jam.

Developer

Thank you for your comment! It's grateful to read such a nice words :-D

I have reduce the volume of the alert sound. Could you please give it a try and share your opinion?

Thanks in advance.

Nice game, I do feel like a hacker xD.

Sound is indeed loud and I didn't understand the likeness of the password. I was just guessing.

Thanks for play it! Do you have play Fallout 3/4? It's the same game when you need to hack a terminal. The password is one of the 12 words that the console shows to you, and the likeness is the number of letters that your type has in common with the correct password. If the password is gamejam, and you type gonehat, your likeness is 3 because you have 3 letters in the same place as the correct password. It's similar to mastermind too. Give it another try!

wow, I loved this its to tense and stressful - also highlights how bad my typing is :D Great job - as said the sound is a little loud. but I enjoyed the added stress that the alerts gave. Well done!

Thanks for playing! I have adjusted the alert volume to not to be so loud, so give it another try!

One of my favorite games in Bitburner on Steam, so I really liked this game. Great job! I started to get pretty stressed out, lol.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I didn't know about Bitburner, but I will give it a try.

As much as I like Bitburner, you did a much better job in your game giving the atmosphere of a hack-prevention crisis. Really good job layering the alarms, the visuals, the tense moments!

I guess I need to go back to Fallout to practice some more. This was a good spin on the password system.

Developer

Thanks! I would like to add more puzzles in a future.

Nice game! I suck at the guessing game portion though haha. Really well-put together

Developer

Thanks for trying it out!

Really cool! Unique idea, adding time pressure to that hacking minigame ramps up the tension!

One critique: I would make that "alert" sound effect about 10-20% as loud as it currently is. I'm not exaggerating, that sound is painful if you're wearing headphones.

But everything else about the game is well-executed. Creative work, really well done!

Developer(+1)

100% agree with you. The alert sound is way too loud. Thanks for the suggestions!

Awesome little game, I was really feeling the pressure! I've always liked the Fallout hacking minigame but when you're on a time limit it's way more intense.  Nice work.

Developer

Thank you! One of the things that could be modified in Fallout is that you can't be attacked while hacking game and there is no time. This certainly could improve the pressure over the player.

Fun, but also frazzled my nerves!

Developer

Thanks! I tested it with my sons and they say same thing. The alert sound could be very annoying.

Really fun! This feels like a complete game and really played on the last stand aspect as you had to deal with more and more hacks. Very nice!

Developer

Thanks for playing! The initial idea was to add several puzzles, but didn't have time.
