Excellent aesthetic and presentation. I love the minimalist style and the progression of mechanics as you keep moving. Like others, I did encounter a bug where I was set back and the next sun patch didn't heal me, making it impossible for me to progress, but I liked what I saw and would love to try it again if updated.
I'm always a fan of minimalist design and indicating health in a world element is a particular favourite. Well done.
I enjoyed playing through this and wanted to, nay, needed to see it through to get this little guy to the big tree in the distance.
The end section I was unable to run or plant anymore (not sure if this is intentional), so that section leading up to the final tree became quite tense as I had to walk through fire.
Well done on a really good game.
Really nice atmosphere. I love the visuals and audio. It was really clever to show player health with the leaves, made the game much more immersive without needing a HUD. Great submission!
Overall, I really liked the style of this! Great atmosphere! I was not really sure what was hitting the character and blocking me from moving on many occasions.
Very much enjoyed the graphical style and the player character, really neat. The fx looked nice, but occasionally I would get blown by wind without a visual queue of what was happening. The hitboxes on the trees are a little big, so I would sometimes get stuck. The level design is really great! Good job on the jam.
The ps1 style graphics are totally pushing the atmosphere, loved that!
It really scared me when the wind was blewing me towards the fire :D
Nice idea to visualize the players health with increasing/decreasing leaves!
Overall really liked the game! :)
I liked the setting and the atmosphere. Blending the player's life with the tree model losing its leaves is an interesting idea that blends story and mechanics well. I liked the music, artwork and cinematic parts that are fitting to the theme. The gradual introduction of the buttons is a good way to learn the controls. I agree with other comments on the fonts being hard to read. Also I tried playing this with a gamepad and I had to switch between keyboard and gamepad for pushing E or left-shift. It would be awesome if there was gamepad support as well.
All in all I think it was a good submission!
The atmosphere and storytelling are awesome! I had a hard time reading some of the text in the game. Overall I really liked it! Good work!
Absolutely loved the look of this game, the atmosphere was great. I was a little bit confused by it all though, I seemed to hit a slowdown effect almost immediately (I guess that meant I was dying?) and then it wrecked the controls for some reason. When I finally got to a sunspot nothing much seemed to happen and it was just stuck in slow motion. A real shame because I would've loved to see where this one went! It's a nice idea.
Got to agree with the atmosphere and the storytelling. Both are done very well. I also like how the "teaching the player" tutorial parts are done. They are done more in a way that doesn't break the flow of the game much. I did run into the pause menu bug and getting pass the second area was a bit difficult. It's cool that you added checkpoints. The second heal pad in the second area seemed not to heal. I don't know if that was on purpose or not. But the wind was a bit of a hassle to deal with at that point.
Great atmosphere. I like how the graphics have a combination of retro low-res 3D art with a more modern lighting style. The shading, the environment, and the ambient sounds all help create the eerie atmosphere.
Unfortunately, I couldn't seem to get past the second area, the more open one after getting past the first area with all the trees. I didn't know where I should've been going and kept getting blown around by the wind. I used Shift to sprint and fight against the wind, but I ended up running out of life. The sunlight is supposed to help heal you, right? It seems like it worked sometimes, but not other times. Also, the sunlight would disappear without even healing me, it seemed. Not sure if this is a bug or if I'm missed something. I also encountered the pause crash other people had mentioned, although the pause screen worked fine the first time I had used it.
Overall, a very interesting game. Your team did well with capturing a creepy atmosphere. I think making the mechanics and the objective more clear to the player would benefit the game a lot. Nice job!
I LOVE the atmospheric vibe of this game, & the low-res 3D stylized pixel artstyle as well! The music also fits the moody atmosphere pretty well. Overall in my opinion, it's a really pretty game. However I'm not sure if my game's bugged but I can't progress past the second cutscene (My character keeps getting pushed back by something? None of my abilities work & when I tried pausing the game, the menu won't show up so it freezes my game)
There were definitely some bugs with the wind (probably what was pushing you back somehow) and the intuivity of the player losing one of their abilities after each cutscene, but I'm glad you were able to give it a good shot. Will definitely be working to fix immediate issues asap. (Absolutely adored your submission btw, unreal)
The ambience and atmosphere of this game is top notch! I love the movement as well. At first, I was a bit unclear of where I could move at some points, but once I got the hang of it the game was very satisfying to play and move around in. Great job!!
So beautiful, incredible work! I did have a couple of bugs, but nothing new that other commenters haven't already pointed out. I hope you keep working on this game after this, it has a lot of potential!
I can tell a lot of love went into this game. The graphics are beautiful, and the presentation is A+. But there were a few issues and points of confusion I ran into while playing, though I really like it overall.
I pressed Escape to pause, and was unable to resume.
The "E" text on the right side at the start of the game, my brain did not parse as an "E" at all. In fact, it wasn't until I saw "L-Shift" that I realized I was staring at text. I see that it's consistent with your title text, which looks great, but I would consider showing something other than 1 letter for the early stuff. Maybe "Press E."
In a similar vein, I think the game is perhaps a little too hands-off (for my taste) with the lack of UI and information, though I certainly appreciate the goal there and I think in general this is just a lovely project.
Awesome work!
Beautiful game, you nailed the aesthetics. I think the health is bugged, it was working as expected for a while, but after the first cutscene where you drop down the cliff it never felt accurate, with the full leaves blinking in and out, and I was unable to use the root ability after a while even with full leaves. There's a lot to like about this game and I think you did some incredible work, but I wasn't able to complete it due to bugs (unless I'm misunderstanding the mechanics).
Thank you for the feedback. Definitely had some bugs that we are looking to address and maybe push to a posthumous update to the build. Someone that we definitely looked at was that after each level you lose one of your abilities, so when you get to the 2nd area you lose your rooot ability, but it's clear that we didn't make that intuitive, the health is definitely buggy though, really appreciate everything however.
