Thanks, glad that you liked our game.
Our friend Fatal Exit is to be thanked for the awesome music that he made in 1 days notice :D
Keep tabs on the game, there is more to come post jam ;)
Very nice game took me awhile to figure out how to transition to the next level
Very good polished game. The graphics are lovely. The gameplay is nice for people who love speedruns. But there is only 1 level. After I gold star all flags, it just show big silver star on top center, clicking the big star doesn't do anything. I don't know how to proceed. Regardless, good job making it mobile-friendly, I played on mobile. Here is my screenshot of stuck situation:
Glad that you liked our game.
There are 3 levels.
You just have to backtrack back to main menu via home button or ESC
then select a new level with left/right.
(On mobile there is a bug that prevents pressing left on some levels, it's fixed in dev version)
The last star is defined via the combined score.
<0.5 Bronze
<0.3 Silver
<0.1 Gold
As your combined time difference was 0.191 it remains as silver.
Interesting concept, but I agree with other commenters - it was hard to understand the goal and what “ON the second” means. It wasn’t also very clear that you can select levels with left/right on the main screen. The game itself is very polished, nice graphics, sound effects, and a lot of small things like particle effects on jumps and collisions, gentle screens shake etc. Cool distortion effect at the bottom third of the screen. One suggestion I have is not to use only colors to indicate something (like red/green to add/remove one second) - use also something else like shape.
The controls feel good and are really great with the animation and sound effects! (Except when the bug kicks in, but that’s no problem in a game jam like this, because we can just reload the game.) The sliding effect when turning feels great! I like the concept, and it got me hooked enough trying to get a perfect score, which isn’t easy.
I didn’t know that the order of the flags matter, so I though it was a bug when nothing happened when I reached a flag. Some number indication on the flags would help (or maybe don’t care about the order, letting the player decide.)
I like that you have mobile control support as well as keyboard support for PC gamers. Maybe you also have controller support, which would really suit this game.
It was a bit difficult to understand the difference between “menu” mode and “play”-mode, because the UI looks almost identical. The music changes, which is a good indicator that something is different, but I think some extra UI changes would make it even more obvious.
These minor critiques aside, I really enjoyed this game. I think it can be released after fixing the bugs and giving the game some more love from you guys, to make it even better. Adding more levels, and maybe a few extra game elements (e.g. add a power up to slow down time,) and you have yourself a complete game ready for release. Good job.
So glad you liked our game.
You are very correct that the difference in menu and game is too similar, that will be fixed later on, as well as the other points you made, took not end will enhance.
I've already made major improvements to the game to be released post jam.
There will be much more time related shenanigans including warps, time dialations and such as well as more mechanics using the water line that is used only as a visual effect now.Just had no time to implement all I wished for to the jam version since I entered only 2 days prior to jam began.
I used Chrome on Mac. I’m not 100% sure how it happened, but I think it happened because I was pressing the UI-buttons and using the keyboard at the same time in window mode (not full-screen mode.) If I press and hold the “up” button in the UI, and drag the mouse outside the window, it happens (I’m not sure if this is what happened when I experienced it the first time.)
it was nice, require strategie to understand how to get near the 2 s.
I really like the concept and all around very original. I would agree with other comments that the main mechanics need a little restructuring and clarity. Keep it up!
Very cool! I love the speedrun/time race slant of this game!
I'm very confused about the time difference and dashing ON the second. I just do not know what that means.
I feel like this game just begs for a high/low score leaderboard. I would love to see real time how other players did. If you develop this concept a lot more, it would be very awesome to show the high scores as ghost runners while you play just like Mirror's Edge did!
At first, I’m a little confused. I wasn’t sure about the order of the flags. Maybe you can add a number to the flagpole to indicate the order of the flags. Also, after passing all the flagpoles, I couldn’t get to the next level.
And I think there is a design that can improve the game experience. There seems like wall at the platform edge, but characters could pass through it. Or some platforms can be modified as jump-through platforms.
Anyway, it's a great game, with geat graphics and music, I like it
Thanks for playing our game.
The information is lacking due to time constraints I started making the game only 2 days before the deadline :D
The next level entry will be available in the next iteration of the game after the jam, just didn't manage to put it there in time.
There will be loads of more time and scene altering effects and shenanigans coming up after the jam.
Try to get all gold stars in all 3 levels, I managed it so it's not that hard for proper platformer players :D
It was super difficult to hit the time on exactly 2 seconds. I figured out that the green beam reduced my current time which helped, but still it was fractions of a second in difference each time. It would be cool if I as a player had the ability to slow down time in order to help me hit the flag at the right moment. Your graphical and audio assets were awesome, it really made the game a coherent experience! Well done! :-)
I hope you have had a great jam, and if you have the time, we would love to hear what you think about our game, Potion Panic.
