As already said, it has a great, juicy feel. Great work. I could only manage about 50 seconds before I'd get killed but was pleased with myself whenever I did.
The concept is simple, but it incorporates the jam theme very well, and is very addictive and fun to play. The game has just the right amount of juice with screen shake and particle effects, decent art and fitting sound design. My only complaint is that there seems to be a bug, when after some time, no matter what you do, the explosion circle just won’t grow past certain radius.
Sorry, this is indeed a bug, let me explain, I originally designed to let the player not always hold down the left button, because after the time slows down you can easily pass by the enemy’s side, this way it lacks a lot of tension, so I added an over heat mechanism, when the explosion range rises to the maximum after a few seconds it will trigger this mechanism, it will make your explosion range slowly shrink and time flow speed recover, but I seem to have messed up, wait until the jam ends I will fix this bug.
I love the juice in this game. The screen shake, the animations, the particle effects, the sound effects, time moves slower the larger the circle is getting, it’s all really satisfying. The color palette and the animations are cute. I like that the hit box on the player is slightly smaller than the player, making the game more forgiving, and you get many “phew, the ghost almost hit me” moments, which is good. Add some music as well to make the game even more fun!
I think there’s a bug when we hold down the mouse button too long, when the circle starts shrinking once, it will never expand again.
Aha! You noticed the little details I designed! Yes, after completing the prototype, I have been testing the game balance for a whole week. About that bug, yes, it is indeed a bug. The intention was to punish the player when holding down the left mouse button, but it seems that it was not done well. I will fix it after the jam ends.
That was fun. Charging up my explosion while positioning to affect more ghosts feels good. Well done, and congrats making a simple and interesting game.
The gameplay is both simple and thought provoking as finding the best spot to explode is crucial to surviving. Very fun and well put together.
My favorite game I've tried so far, great job! The tutorial was a bit long but it was helpful
