Ooooh, this is a creative one! :D  Being able to change the environment around you and having to adapt to other players doing the same is so cool! ^^ Also love the character designs and the little story behind the game. :>

The game did feel a bit slow paced at times tho with the ability meter recharging quite slow and you aften having to go through multiple shifts to reach your destination. Also I found it a bit difficult to tell which bug belongs to whom as the colored outlines were a bit thin.

Props to you for including so many different level styles and layouts tho. Can't wait to see you guys add online multiplayer to this! ^^

Really nice game, and a nice amount of variety in level styles and layouts! Wanna try it out with friends some time. My only small gripe is that i would get "stuck" on colliders from time to time. It would be nice to have slightly angled colliders around the corners so you slide in.

Developer

Huge thanks! I'm glad you like it.  In the version we submitted for the game jam there's 12 unique custom levels spread over 4 visual themes, and then each visual theme can have randomised layouts too.

cool game there is a lot going on with that maze. the difficulty was a little to hard for me, and I could not figure out the movement, Like sometimes pushing up would move me left or right , takes getting use t, but the story, audio art and visuals were all really cool. great job overall .

Developer

That's interesting! Curiously what type of controller were you using? I tend to play it with keyboard or a dpad, and even with analog sticks we lock into 8 directions to prevent the player getting snagged on walls and such.

Whichever method you are using it should just move in the direction you are facing.  Thanks!

Submitted

I am using a keyboard and you are right, It does move in the direction it is facing, not necessarily the direction of the arrow you are pressing. I am using the arrow keys on standard US keyboard and it is functioning something like the analog stick of the controller, So in the tutorial the view is isometric so the player starts  facing to the left ( right + down ) if  wanted to move up in the maze and I push the UP  key the player does not go up in the maze it moves to the right , to get the player to move up in the maze I need to press the left arrow key, i do not know if any body else experienced this.

Developer

Oooh, I think i see what you're doing! I assume you're moving entirely in diagonal movements on the keyboard which isn't required for you to do

We should have made it more clear during the tutorial, but pressing "up "on the controller moves you north east, pressing "down" moves you south west, "left" moves you north west, and "right" moves you south east.  On analogue sticks this isn't the case and you have to use it as you would perhaps expect.

Responding to people's comments we have got a build of the game where the camera is slightly off the isometric view, which would hopefully make it a bit more intuitive, but updating that during the game jam felt a little bit unfair, so we'll do that after the fact.  The character not facing in the correct direction on entirely diagonal inputs on the other hand is a bug.

Thanks for the feedback!

Gosh the functionality of the maze-forming was so baffling to me and to see it used with and against other players was very fun! :D The art direction and soundtrack was very neat as well, can't believe you put this all together in such a short time!

Developer(+2)

The maze shifting and changing as the game progressed was something we were really striving for with this!  We really wanted to allow players to block each other in, or take them further away from their goal, but never in a way that felt too frustrating. We're very pleased with what we came up with!  And thank you! It was a very intense and focused week or so, but I really enjoyed working on it!

Making a viable multiplayer game in the span of 9 days is nothing short of incredible.

Very nice job with the nifty shifting mechanics :3

Developer(+1)

Huge thanks!

Mani took care of the multiplayer handling of controllers and such. I handled more of the single player bot AI, as we really wanted to include both!  Especially as we felt most people playing the game for the game jam are most likely to be just playing it solo, even if we were trying to make something which was more focused on multiplayer.

The shifting mechanics was a tag team, effort which ended up working really nicely!  Thank you very much!

I say the best thing going for this game is the -vibes-. It just makes me happy to experience it. however I kept feeling like my fingers were tied trying to control it. 45 degrees on a keyboard is tough. I physically turned on my board to make it work better. It also took me a while to realize you cant collect all of the bugs, only the ones that match your colour. So I wasted time going after and failing to pick up others until it clicked. Over all, a nice concept and a happy little game. well done everyone!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing the game! The rotation is tricky and something we do want to make easier - it's a lot easier with a controller due to the analog stick, but with the keyboard it's kinda tricky! As for the colors, we do say they need to be of your color in the tutorial, but it would be nice to make it a bit more obvious! Thanks again for playing and giving feedback! :D

Woooow I really love the gameplay idea coupled with the multiplayer!! Even some cool details added to the effects, some narrative, multiples maps. Nah really such a coolk idea and execution of the project. If I would search some problems, yeah I would say the controls are weird to take hands on due to the 45° angle, and insects are a bit not enough visible, but really the gameplay idea works really cool! GG!

Developer

Thanks so much for your kind words! I'msuper glad you enjoy our little game! The idea really clicked with us early on and felt fun early too! :D

Really like this one! As is, I could totally see it shipped as a CD Rom game! Lot of fun, only feedack is to increase the speed of shifting over time to add some pressure and maye some powerups to help spice up the gameplay and keep the pace active!

Developer

We definitelyhad ideas for power ups that we couldn't do due to running out of time, so maybe after the voting we'll look into that idea again! :) Thanks so much for playing and your kind words!

Developer(+1)

also saw your VOD just now. Very fun! Excellent groovin' and some good suggestions!

I really enjoyed the game. The visuals look good, the gameplay is great and the different maps is a great addition to add variation. The only issue I had was the movement that I found hard to handle at first (due to the 45° rotation of the map), as well as the insects that are sometimes hard to see (I always find myself stopping for 3 to 5 seconds looking for the next insect). Other than that, it's a great game !

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your comment and trying out the game! :D We did think about making the sparkles marking the bugs bigger, but that kind of made it a bit too intense. Always a balancing act, heh! :D

Oh wow this looks super cool, great composition of the screens and dialogues.
(game screen on the other hand feels a little smallish and collision/motion during maze rearrangement could be more lenient)

Mad Maze-Agasca Takes the "Crazy Labyrinth" board game principle and turns it into a real time frantic local multiplayer, with screen wrapping and cool animals.

Fossas FTW. Great soundtrack, absolutely slaps. Oh wow does it slap.

Developer

Thanks very much! I am glad you liked it! :D We are pretty aggressive with locking the players to the tiles to prevent accidents with the physics engine, and keeping everything in frame is a challenge with larger maps for sure ^^

Unfortunately I’m lonely and don’t have anyone to play local coop with, but absolutely love the gameplay! Even just a round against COMs was incredibly fun. The art is also super good. Only critique I have is that the camera feels a bit too zoomed out, an orthographic perspective would be nice.

Developer

Huge thanks!  Hoop/King Civet did an outstanding job with the art direction for the game.  Maniko and I came up with the concept for the game play and gave them full control over that, and they did a wonderful job with it!

That could be just from having a large monitor, whoops  While 7 by 7 is our default grid size there's a bunch of different maps in different sizes, which zoom the camera in further!

Thanks!

Developer

Thanks so much for the comment and playing the game! I am glad the CPUs worked well! :D We were playing around with Orthographic at the end, but it messed up some things we couldn't fix in time!
