  • Congratulations on your completed entry into the Fireside's first ever Game Jam!
  • The music, art, effects, and concept are solid. Just a couple of issues with the game: -It's easy to get caught in a corner and go from full to 0 health, because you aren't reset back on to the track at a point of safety when you run in to a wall. -Restoring your health upon completing a lap makes the pick ups less viable as the speed increases, because the risk to reward ratio breaks down.
  • A very nice retro style to this game. The bland colours and basic graphics could have been brought forward to be a bit more modern and still retain that nice retro style I think. An interesting attempt to include the theme, but it fell short and felt more like trying to slap it on an already existing game. The actual gameplay is very well done with smooth responsive controls. I like the random generation location for the hearts. Even though its a small track it can feel different with new locations each lap or two. I liked the music selection and felt it was appropriate for the racing genre. Overall, I was most impressed with the actual gameplay which is what counts.

That main menu music with the morse-code-like beeps is so good! And the game is quite fun too. Well done.

thanks buddy.

This one is really dope, and I usually don't like these top down racing games! The controls felt pretty good and it was actually really fun to try and see how many perfect laps I could do, (The color change was a really nice touch) in fact, I think that could be a fun direction to take it if you wanted. With every consecutive perfect lap you could add more visual noise and color to the screen so keeping up a streak would be extra challenging. The only change I really suggest is when the player hits the wall, it would be good to send them off at the opposite angle they crashed in. When you get going at the faster speeds, one mistake pretty much is guaranteed to kill you as your car just grinds against the wall.   The music was really great and fitting as well.   Overall, very well done!

hi, thanks for playing. I love the idea of adding colour with each consecutive perfect lap. That would have fit the theme sooo much better as you'd be rejuvenating the actual game from black and white to full colour. I will definitely add this feature and yes, I'll improve the collision when you hit the wall as you are right 1 hit st high speed and its curtains. Thanks for the suggestions.

Brought back lots of nostalgia a fun little challenge, one thing I found was when I crashed sometimes there was not much coming back and I continued to pow into the scenery.

Still a well made little gem.

thanks for the nice comment.  Yeah you can get stuck on the sides if you're not careful

Fun retro game with lots of polish that will really test your reflexes. It's very satisfying getting perfect laps and and barely getting yourself out of those sticky situations with those impactful collisions. It also has lots of variety of music that fits the game well. Great job!

thanks for the nice feedback my man 👍

Really fun and addictive game, more like flappy bird but a race game :3

the soundtracks are really awesome and fit the race genre very well, i like how the game start from slow to faster and faster the more laps you get, more like easy > hard > harder

fun and challenging  and fit the theme, well done !

Great game! Tough to get a high score on but I certainly gave it my best. Music and sfx are great as always from a Xanderwood entry, and I thought this was a great little twist on the racing game genre to work with the theme. The graphics are great and i think the colors and sprites really work well the game. It seems this is a genre you’re quite comfortable with given your YouTube tutorials, and it shows in a well polished little experience. Excellent work!

thanks man, that's a lovely comment. Yeah I'm retro pixel art to the core. I love designing and creating in that style no matter the game.

This game was really fun and addictive! Simple fun and polished. The car getting "rejuvenated" gave me a lol but still the game was fun enough for me to overlook that. Would have liked a little more variety in the circles, maybe just the ones that are touching the track even. Still the overall art style is slick and polished, really liked it!

Hey, thanks for playing, I think I was pushing my luck trying to blend a racing game with the rejuvenation theme.

As long as the game is fun! Theme be damned! :)

Feels really smooth the play, looks good and the music fits really well. But I must admit the interpretation of the theme feels a bit loose. It's a Race game with a health bar. I'd have liked more of a focus on that rejuvenation.

Developer

Fair comment :) The rejuvenation element comes in because the goal of the game is to keep your car health as high as possible, you get rejuvenated with each successful lap.

Amazing game, the controls are wonderful. The music and sfx could have been better and the fullscreen button is not working.

Developer

thanks for the comment. What didn't you like about the sound? Also the full screen button works for me, I'm not sure why it wouldn't go full screen for you? Weird.

Love the aesthetic!

Developer

thanks I'm glad you liked it
