Best executed combat of any games I've had a chance to play in the jam (roughly a quarter of them). I really liked the fluent chaining of moves. I might have to steal it for something.
Artwork was also great. I know you said elsewhere that you felt it was "amateurish", but consistency of style is more important than the quality of any individual piece, and the pixel art combined with the music selection and the background effects all play off each other here to great effect.
I'm not really picking up on the duality theme. It is there a bit in the backstory (real world protagonist, with this ability to to enter a digital world, but that doesn't come into play in any interactive manner.
Well done.
Damn, the combat is just amazing. Many combat actions but it is just "what is this enemy weak to?". A few combo interactions and this game would feel really good.
Nice style and combat system -- reminded me of a jam entry I wanted to do in 2022 but never finished, so I'm glad to see a game that explores similar ideas. I'd like to see it expanded into a complete game at some point.
I love this game! this is one of the funniest entry I played ! Congrat!
I beat a ransomware.
I like the movement feel and the dithering on the walls. Combat is fun too, the game is not hard but I almost got beaten by the enemy before the boss which means you can't do anything and still win, that's good.
I loved the simplicity of the art in this game. Wow! Great work on the polished and stylized UI.
The combat mechanics are really interesting and I would love to see it expanded and balanced a bit more in a longer game.
Overall, fantastic job!
haha "simplistic" is a great way of saying "amateurish" xD. It's funny how many people are saying the UI (I'm assuming battle UI) is the most polished aspect, despite the battle flow and UI code being probably the worst thing about the project! And maybe one day I'll have the motivation to make a full on RPG :3
Great minimalist scenery. I especially loved the skybox and the viruses in the distance. I like the command queue and execution.
Only thing I could ask for is some upgrades or unlocks.
Well done art style! It conveyed cyberspace in a fun way. I ended up not feeling like I was doing much with the combo system (other than not being able to spam the best move), so maybe I was missing something. All in all it felt like most of the gameplay came down to memorizing weaknesses, but that's certainly understandable for a jam game.
In general the UI and flow felt like something I'd see in a full game; it was very polished for a jam game. Good job!
If I had more time I would've scripted a tutorial segment, but I didn't have time. I was hoping that people picked up on the "x.5" in the UI to show that chaining the same moves is ineffective and did less damage. If I had more time I would've also explained how focus boosts your damage and protect halves the damage of the next enemy attack.
A big inspiration for this game was SMT, and as a stretch goal I wanted to add a press turn like system (exploiting weakness giving you bonus actions), but in the time I had it would've been impossible.
I love the art style! The dungeon tiles are simple but very efficient. My only remark is since your character's stats doesn't seem to progress, battles are taking longer and longer the deeper you go (I died in level 3), some progression would have been nice. Besides that, I love the combat system, programming your actions is fun, it's something that can easily be expanded upon like combos. Great work!
Loving the concept! Nice furry art. :D
