In what way does your game fit the theme?
Pink can only defeat the monsters through relying on her friends' words. If she relies on one friend too much, she loses their support. She has to rely on all of them.

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes! The only thing we didn't make is the music because we don't have musical knowledge. But I (Fahrenheit) wrote all of the code, and Oddkey drew all of the art!

It' a super interesting and original idea for the theme!! The graphics of the magical girls are super beautiful and the message you want to convey is very poetic . We need more game like yours with a strong message. The gameplay is very simple but it's enough for now but maybe try to developpe this part for the futur of your game if you want it !

If you have time I would appreciate if you could rate my game too, thanks !

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! We do plan on developing the combat system in the future, we had ideas for it but not enough time ^^

(Oh your game is on my list of game I want to play! It looks cool and I'm very curious of it I just didn't have the time to try it yet :3)

Submitted(+1)

Love the art style, it's very unique. I also like the way your gameplay fits really nicely into the theme. I would love it if the battle system had a bit more strategy to it. I am just more of gameplay first, story second kind of guy. Despsite I think you could make the argument that the point of the battle system is to be a vehicle for the theme. Which I think is perfectly acceptable. Good job on your game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!!

We agree that the gameplay is a bit light for now, but it's mostly because of time contrains... There's ideas we didn't have time to develop to make it more strategy-based, that will be developed in the future. We're planning on making an improved version of the game after the jam :D

Glad to hear! Followed you so, hopefully, I get the chance to play it.

The game is beautiful! Art is amazing and the theme is unique form all othe games on the jam. Would be cool is there are not one big battle, but several little ones with different themes. Great concept!

Developer

Thank you for your review!! We're planning an improved version for after the jam so we'll keep that in mind :3

The first thing that struck me is how expressive the art is, with only a few images you managed really set a mood and have unique characters that stand out from the rest. I think you could really lean on that notebook / handdrawn aesthetic to have the UI and background be more pleasing, right now they're a bit bland (maybe you can split the fight in 3 parts, one for each enemy, and for each new one you turn the page?). The overall theme and message is very wholesome.

I think the main thing that could be eventually improved is just making the game more "gamey", right now it almost feels like a visual novel. Maybe there could be an incentive for choosing a specific message? Right now I felt like you could just click and do whatever, as long as you're switching up friends things were okay. So introducing things that force you to think more about your words would be great.

Thank you so much for taking the time to play and write a review!!

We do have plans for an improved version after the jam, with ideas we didn't have the time to develop during the week, including more strategy for the fight and better differenciation between the monsters. As it is, the monsters are differents (and there's a secret 4th one!) but it's not easy to see who is saying what so the identification might be messy...

We'll absolutely try to work on the backgrounds now that we have the time! Your notebook idea is interesting ^^

Again, thank you :D

(EDIT: accidentally posted too soon _ _")

This is a really charming game! The art is phenomenal, great job there. I love the concept of the game too, having to fight your fears and insecurities with the help of your friends is a good idea. Really great job here guys!

Developer

Thank you for playing and taking the time to write us a review :D

Green's dog is adorable!

Great game, really liked it. I even got teary eyes at the end.

The art is great! I wished the background was a notebook or something.
I kind of imagined it as red's notebook and her drawing her friends to keep her calm and fight her depression.
I will also note that in terms of game deisgn, I didn't really think much about what to do, or who to call.
Would be nice if there were different enemy types, and each color is effective on each enemy type, but that is a bit more complex and in a game jam must be hard to do.

Well done!

Developer

That is so sweet. I really love your interpretation of this being her writing her inner turmoil in her notebook, so cool!!

Fun fact: The monsters are different from each other and have different dialogue. Which dialogue gets thrown at you is random though. Can you guess which monster is what?

Also, there's a bonus monster if you don't call for your friends four times, it's Loneliness :D

We made it so someone playing normally can't lose easily, but there's ways to lose against the monsters hehe

Sorry for going on a rant, your response just made me so giddy! Promise: In V2, we'll draw green's dogo.

Submitted(+1)

Well, now I appreciate the game even more!
The loneliness one is really clever. Stuff like that in the game just make it such a better experience.

I actually think that it's really fitting that you won't lose easily, that should stay 100%. The game's charm is not about the fighting, but it sure adds to my personal experience having to understand what I need to do in each turn, decision making is huge for me.

Don't be sorry, that's the point of the jam! I can see you and your partner have a lot of things you want to add and do which is awesome!

Good luck!!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much!!

As my partner in crime said, the monsters are differents, but it's true that as the game currently is it's not easy to guess which monster is saying what... We do have plans to improve the game after the jam tho, using ideas we didn't have time to develop and people's reviews!

Your notebook idea is really cute, I love your interpretation ^^

Again, thank you for taking the time to play and review our game :D

Submitted(+1)

Wow, that game is genial, it's so well done, and the music, nice, i want to see a complete version as soon as possible

Developer(+1)

You can count on that :DD the positive response from you people got us so hyped up for making it even better!

Submitted(+1)

This is great. I like the hand-drawn art style and the way the message was conveyed was powerful.

Developer

Thank you!! I'm happy staining my desk with pink paint was worth it xD

Submitted(+1)

I really really really enjoyed this game and the message you send through it. I love games like this... and I love this game. Keep up the great work!

Developer

Thank you, we're really happy the message is working for players :D

Submitted(+2)

such a nice game :) I love the message, and the art is very nice. Also, I know you didn't make this game directly for me but, thank you for making this game, positive games like this really help me feel better :)

Developer(+1)

I am so happy it had a positive impact !! You can definitely interpret it as being made for you, it's canon now :D

I was kind of worried generally of handling the subject of mental health clumsily, since it's such a different thing for each person. That it resonates with some people is what makes it worthwhile!

Thank you.

Absolutely loved the artstyle and message! It felt unique among the games in the jam :) It reminded me of Omori ! It already has me wanting to learn more about the characters and world!

Developer

kfdjvlfjdbvkjfnvlmfdnlsr

That is so lovely to hear!!!! We do plan on a second version with more strategy and interaction!!

(And maybe someday other games about the friends!!)

Omori is such a cool game so I feel flattered hehe

Thank you!

Wow, the ending really hit hard and was a really good twist. The entire writing of all this is also very emotional, and everything hits really hits home. <3

Decreasing the time between animations might help make the flow better to increase the already great immersion! But otherwise this could really be expanded into a larger story world / RPG, the concept is great.

Thanks for sharing! I can tell this was created / written from a really deep part of you, and really appreciate you sharing that with us.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!! It's our first completed game so it means a lot ^^

We do plan on making an improved version after the jam, with ideas we didn't have time to develop, so we'll keep your criticism in mind :D

Submitted

I'm so glad you're continuing developing it! Keep us all updated :)

Developer(+1)

We'll keep your advice in mind, thank you! And thank you for giving the game your time and attention, it makes me so happy that it made you feel some emotions!!

Submitted(+2)

Wow, such an interesting game idea. I love it! And the art is really cool 😊

Developer

Thank you I'm happy you found it interesting :D

Submitted(+1)

Good game really inovative!!

Submitted

The artwork as well as the message of the game is quite nice, however, it would be nice if the animations were a bit faster so the game would pick up the pace.

Developer

Thank you! If you don't mind, we'd be interested to know which animations felt slow, so we can improve the game after the jam ^^

Submitted(+1)

The "slow" part is just the transition between you calling a friend and the friend coming and going. The dialogue is fast paced and is broken up by the friend characters flying in. It would just be nice to have those go a bit faster.

Developer

That was quite helpful, thank you for taking the time to answer! We'll make sure to improve this for the second version.

Submitted(+1)

I love the art style you went for! very refreshing, the gameplay itself needs a bit of a strategy, but otherwise its really nice ^^

Developer

Thank you! :D We do plan on making a second version of the game with ideas we didn't have time to develop, so hopefully there will be more strategy in the future ^^

Submitted(+1)

I love the art in this game! The fighting need a bit more strategy but otherwise its great!

Developer(+1)

Thank you :D We had ideas to make the fighting more complex but didn't have time to develop them, however we are planning on making an improved version of the game soon enough!

Submitted(+1)

My god I absolutely loved it! The art, the writing, everything was just so on point. The handrawn art is also a thing you rarely see nowadays, hope to see more!

Developer

Thank you so much! It's our first game, we're really happy you liked it :D

We do plan on making an improved version with ideas we had but didn't have the time to code in the game!

Have my rate Dev!
