I love the positive messages this game gives and the art is so cute! While the gameplay is a little repetitive and slow, I appreciate the amount of effort you all put into this very positive game!

In what way does your game fit the theme?
Pink can only defeat the monsters through relying on her friends' words. If she relies on one friend too much, she loses their support. She has to rely on all of them.
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes! The only thing we didn't make is the music because we don't have musical knowledge. But I (Fahrenheit) wrote all of the code, and Oddkey drew all of the art!

I really like the message of this game! The art is very cute, and I liked how the different friends had their own personalities. The gameplay itself got a bit repetitive after a while, it would be nice if there was some sort of strategy in deciding which friend to call on or which 'attack' to use. But I understand there is only so much you can do within a week. Overal its a good game :).
Hi.
I like the setup for this game and the fact that the attacks were based on feelings and awareness of them. I got a "Steven Universe" kind of feeling playing your game.
The core mechanic got a little bit repetitive over time. I feel like a little bit of randomness would have been helpful to feel that the game was a bit more organic. Like, the battle was too predictable for me (ignoring the dialog). It would have been good that sometimes the player got more or less hurt depending on what the creature said. Same case on the other direction.
So yeah. Great game overall, and I hope my feedback can help you in any way. Take Care n.n
Very fun game, with an interesting mechanic.
I don’t know if it is intended or a bug, but the health bars of both opponents did not seem to go down until I pressed quit, it would be nice to have some more feedback during the game.
I am curious how you created the art, did you draw it by hand and then scan it?
Thank you for taking the time to write a review!
What you describe might be a bug but it might also be the fact that the health bar decrease very slowly in general, so if you stopped playing after just a few rounds it might have looked like they were still full... Did they went down when you pressed quit, though?
For the art, yes that's exactly what I did, haha!
Nice motivation game, I guess because you read both good and bad comments in the end haha, but magical girls win so it is a good message !!!
The art style is sweet, the enemy looks like ice cream to me to be honest, like strawberry and red fruits ;)
- Maybe the attack should matter more, it takes a long time to reduce the life of the enemy.
- I would have like also that our sentence are answers to the bad one and not the opposite, it leaves a bad note. But again, I guess it makes sense since the last attack (if you win) does not take a bad reply. So I would see maybe attack, that are said first, and defense that are said second. Maybe.
Oh and I tried the two challenges... Could not fight without calling someone, and Yellow stopped talking to me :'( (someone bellow said Blue does the same)
Nice little start! Good job.
Thank you so much for your review!! It has interesting points that we'll keep in mind for the improved version of the game ^^
We have plans for more diversity in the fight system, so it should need more strategy in the future and hopefully won't feel so long.
I'm super happy you took the time to try the special things :D so yeah, the point of the game is that you can't win without your friends, but if you don't call them for too long a new monster appears (it's loneliness, each monster has a theme^^). And every friend will stop answering at some point, if you only rely on them (except Orange because she's the mentor, but she won't stop loneliness from appearing, at least in the updated version) because you need more than one friend to help you!
Thank you again ^^
I really like the theme and the art :) It's more of a story than a game but I like that blue stopped talking to me after I called it few times in a row :D
I love the hand drawn art style! It really shows that you put some love into this game :)
It' a super interesting and original idea for the theme!! The graphics of the magical girls are super beautiful and the message you want to convey is very poetic . We need more game like yours with a strong message. The gameplay is very simple but it's enough for now but maybe try to developpe this part for the futur of your game if you want it !
If you have time I would appreciate if you could rate my game too, thanks !
Love the art style, it's very unique. I also like the way your gameplay fits really nicely into the theme. I would love it if the battle system had a bit more strategy to it. I am just more of gameplay first, story second kind of guy. Despsite I think you could make the argument that the point of the battle system is to be a vehicle for the theme. Which I think is perfectly acceptable. Good job on your game!
The game is beautiful! Art is amazing and the theme is unique form all othe games on the jam. Would be cool is there are not one big battle, but several little ones with different themes. Great concept!
The first thing that struck me is how expressive the art is, with only a few images you managed really set a mood and have unique characters that stand out from the rest. I think you could really lean on that notebook / handdrawn aesthetic to have the UI and background be more pleasing, right now they're a bit bland (maybe you can split the fight in 3 parts, one for each enemy, and for each new one you turn the page?). The overall theme and message is very wholesome.
I think the main thing that could be eventually improved is just making the game more "gamey", right now it almost feels like a visual novel. Maybe there could be an incentive for choosing a specific message? Right now I felt like you could just click and do whatever, as long as you're switching up friends things were okay. So introducing things that force you to think more about your words would be great.
Thank you so much for taking the time to play and write a review!!
We do have plans for an improved version after the jam, with ideas we didn't have the time to develop during the week, including more strategy for the fight and better differenciation between the monsters. As it is, the monsters are differents (and there's a secret 4th one!) but it's not easy to see who is saying what so the identification might be messy...
We'll absolutely try to work on the backgrounds now that we have the time! Your notebook idea is interesting ^^
Again, thank you :D
(EDIT: accidentally posted too soon _ _")
Green's dog is adorable!
Great game, really liked it. I even got teary eyes at the end.
The art is great! I wished the background was a notebook or something.
I kind of imagined it as red's notebook and her drawing her friends to keep her calm and fight her depression.
I will also note that in terms of game deisgn, I didn't really think much about what to do, or who to call.
Would be nice if there were different enemy types, and each color is effective on each enemy type, but that is a bit more complex and in a game jam must be hard to do.
Well done!
That is so sweet. I really love your interpretation of this being her writing her inner turmoil in her notebook, so cool!!
Fun fact: The monsters are different from each other and have different dialogue. Which dialogue gets thrown at you is random though. Can you guess which monster is what?
Also, there's a bonus monster if you don't call for your friends four times, it's Loneliness :D
We made it so someone playing normally can't lose easily, but there's ways to lose against the monsters hehe
Sorry for going on a rant, your response just made me so giddy! Promise: In V2, we'll draw green's dogo.
Well, now I appreciate the game even more!
The loneliness one is really clever. Stuff like that in the game just make it such a better experience.
I actually think that it's really fitting that you won't lose easily, that should stay 100%. The game's charm is not about the fighting, but it sure adds to my personal experience having to understand what I need to do in each turn, decision making is huge for me.
Don't be sorry, that's the point of the jam! I can see you and your partner have a lot of things you want to add and do which is awesome!
Good luck!!
Thank you so much!!
As my partner in crime said, the monsters are differents, but it's true that as the game currently is it's not easy to guess which monster is saying what... We do have plans to improve the game after the jam tho, using ideas we didn't have time to develop and people's reviews!
Your notebook idea is really cute, I love your interpretation ^^
Again, thank you for taking the time to play and review our game :D
Wow, that game is genial, it's so well done, and the music, nice, i want to see a complete version as soon as possible
This is great. I like the hand-drawn art style and the way the message was conveyed was powerful.
I really really really enjoyed this game and the message you send through it. I love games like this... and I love this game. Keep up the great work!
I am so happy it had a positive impact !! You can definitely interpret it as being made for you, it's canon now :D
I was kind of worried generally of handling the subject of mental health clumsily, since it's such a different thing for each person. That it resonates with some people is what makes it worthwhile!
Thank you.
Wow, the ending really hit hard and was a really good twist. The entire writing of all this is also very emotional, and everything hits really hits home. <3
Decreasing the time between animations might help make the flow better to increase the already great immersion! But otherwise this could really be expanded into a larger story world / RPG, the concept is great.
Thanks for sharing! I can tell this was created / written from a really deep part of you, and really appreciate you sharing that with us.
