Really good! had a lot of fun playing it!

*maybe you would also like to try and rate my submission*

Cool game! It was a bunch of fun to play it! I liked the art style a lot!

Submitted

Really liked this game. We also did a video store with the same idea but in 3D.

Yo’ Templar here,
Very fun game, the art and sfx fits it quite well. A few things to point out would be:

  • The numbers in picked up tapes are too small.
  • The ratings stars are barely noticeable, I only saw them there at the beginning, and completely forgot about them for the rest of the game.
  • Following with the previous point, getting more stars for doing a good job doesn’t really feel like much of a reward, of course this is totally subjective.
Developer

Thanks! I agree that there isn't really much of a feeling of accomplishment here. We'll think about more ways to communicate that in the future. Good input!

I didnt'really notice the 'rewind' situation. There was a rewind button, but does it rewind returned tapes? Or something else? For the rest. Nice graphics, funny tune, fun to see what tapes what customers are getting next :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the input! We tried to communicate the idea of rewinding tapes from the bin in a more natural way and it was mentioned at the start of the game, but maybe that needed some more explicit directions like the rest of the tutorial popups

Submitted

Very fun! a different twist on the theme, really appreciated it!

only thing, sometimes the tapes don't go in the shelf and pass over it, expecially titanic ones for some reasons

Developer

Yeah throwing tapes disables the collider of the tape for a fraction of a second as a last second workaround lol. We anticipated people not being right against the shelves when throwing tapes.

Thanks for the input!

Nice game, I liked the graphics and the cover arts.

Developer

Thank you! A lot of love went into the art

Submitted

great take on the theme, anazing art well done.

Submitted

really unique , took me a minute to understand but I could see this being a full game :) good work

Submitted

I liked this one! A little tricky to understand the rewind and sell interaction right at first, but once I got it the game flowed pretty well. Nice job!

Submitted

Nice twist on the idea. I give 5 stars on "theme" for not choosing "time".

It was pretty fun! I kept getting a lot of action movies though, the shelf was always full, but every other shelf kept getting grabbed from haha

We had a similar issue in our game, those numbers are hard to balance on movie generation

--EDIT--
Forgot to mention, I didn't hear any audio. Don't know if that was by design or bug

Developer

Huh that's weird about the audio. Did you download it or play it in browser?

Submitted(+1)

I played the web version on Chrome. I try not to download games from itch.

This game is SUPER impressive! The art covers clearly had a lot of care and the game play  loop is really engaging. I could see this being an actual title for a micro game. My only criticism is it seems that rewinding tapes appears to be an inferior strategy compared to just grabbing more and more tapes from the bin until you get pre-wound tapes.

Developer

Thanks for the input! Yeah, we found that loophole and added the tapes dropping onto the floor to try and deter that strategy. Any ideas to balance that out are greatly appreciated!

Submitted

If I had to think of something I would probably say the tapes on the floor should affect costumer reviews. Eg. a messy store will lead to unhappy customers.

Submitted

Great job! You took a simple idea and made a very good game that was super fun.

Developer

Thank you!

I have a bit of soft spot for games like these so I really enjoyed this.

Submitted(+1)

cool game, enjoyed it.

Fun game, it was hard to tell how many movies were left on a shelf so didn't know what to prioritize

Developer

Thanks for the input! We made the sprites of the shelves change due to how many tapes were on the shelf, but making an actual counter somewhere would better communicate that.

This game was great! the graphics were awesome, and the music fit the game perfectly

Submitted(+1)

This game is so good.  The art, the music, the gameplay loop are all solid.  If I had to nitpick I would say that the player should automatically put tapes to rewind and in the shelves if they are next to them.  Also the game can get a little stale if you play it for too long, but this could just be because I only played on the lowest difficulty because I suck at games :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you! and yeah, I agree I think lowest difficulty stays a  bit too easy.

Reminds me a lot of "Night of the consumers", but not in a bad way of course. I really like the game because it is just soo full of quality. This maybe the first entry I played with a full on tutorial to teach you how to play. Very cool game!

Developer(+1)

That means so much! Our last day was spent really trying to get the tutorial to not be a wall of text, and also to have the environment tell you what to do.
