Nice sense of humor on the intro. Simple but pleasing art style! Nice entry for the jam.

Oh yeah! Just realized I will be your "20"!

Could you please play and rate my game as well?

Yo’ Templar here,

  • An interesting take on golf games.
  • The art and sound fit each other well. A few things to point out:
  • I can’t tell if this is a bug: When you rewind, you go back to the start position, the rewind ends, but if you start spamming rewind, then your remaining shots keep increasing.
  • While the rewind mechanic fits the theme, I quite doesn’t fit in the game itself, without it is a puzzle golf game where you want to get as much points (patience) as possible while still reaching the exit with your available shots; but with the rewind mechanic it turns into just a regular golf game where you can just keep spamming rewind and farming for points before moving.
  • The “points”/patience is quite unclear what each does if there’s even a difference, a better take would have been having different personality traits (following the personality test theme that you’re going for) like fun, loving, patience, etc. This would make the player have to aim for certain traits while avoiding others as they navigate through the level.

Thank you for the detailed feedback!

Regarding the "bug", it was intended as some levels are a bit tricky to pass and I didn't want players to get discouraged. HOWEVER, I didn't think about spamming rewind. Thanks for pointing it out!

The rewind mechanic is a stretch, solely introduced to fit the theme. This is bad and I know it ^^' In previous comments I have mentioned the original idea and how it evolved to the final game. What it boils down to is that I liked the idea too much to start anew.

Your last point is exactly what it was supposed to be but I had to rush it and didn't have time to implement it :/ In case you wonder, each "level" of patience gives different amounts of points/patience at the end (1x for Patience, 10x for More Patience and 50x for Even More).

Thank you for playing!

This is weirdly cool in a way. Hilarious intro - love it. Other things of particular note:

1) Excellent sound design. Every hit with the patience balls, with the walls just has that OOMF. Very cool.

2) Good art direction. In conjunction with the sound design, your choice of sound, music and art style all fits quite cohesively. Was a pleasant to play from start to finish.

Thematically, I admittedly have no idea what to feel about it. You have implemented it both narratively and mechanically a good incentive for the rewind but I also don't feel particularly satisfied with how it works. I think it's the fact that you have to replay the level everytime? While sure, it a way that DOES test your patience but it just goes against the nature of having a fun game?

I might be rambling on that previous paragraph. So if you are interested in gathering more feedback after this game jam, consider asking what people think of your rewind mechanic. I'm actually at a loss and I don't really know.

Very fun game actually, for how short it is. Too bad I got a cat, I simply was too impatient I guess. :[

Wow, thank you for the long and detailed feedback!

1) I'm glad you liked the sound design. I think this is one of my weakest points (along with game design) so it feels nice being validated :)

2) I'm actually quite proud of the art direction so I'm happy to know you liked it!

3) I completely agree with you about the theme (or lack thereof). The original idea was to have a simulation of your future life with the pet, and you could rewind at any time to see different paths. This was already at the limit of fitting the theme as I was worried it would be seen as a glorified "New game" option. In any case, several constraints (time and art, mostly) led to a deviation from this idea to the game we finally ended up making. Basically I liked the idea too much to scrap 2 or 3 days of work just because it didn't fit the theme very well :)

In the end, I justify the rewind mechanic as an abstract representation of training a puppy, as sometimes you need to "go back to basics" in order to teach him well.

In any case, I'm glad you enjoyed the game and thank you for playing!

fun and very short game. sound effects were good, graphics are okay.rewind mechanic used as a restart the level i guess. i got a puppy :3

Developer (1 edit)

Good job on getting a puppy! The rewind mechanic is a stretch, I agree, but we had fun making the game :)

Thank you for playing!

Controls were a little difficult to grasp at first, my ball took about 1 minute before it finally reset and it didnt exactly explain

Developer

What do you mean it took the ball a minute to reset? You can click and drag at any time and it should stop the movement of the ball.

I agree that some explanations would have been welcome but unfortunately I had to rush the level creation :S

Thank you for the feedback and thank you for playing!

The theme is fun and I like the old text editor-MS Basic style of it. I love that rushing the game only grants you a fruit fly xD

Fun concept and interesting gameplay! I like that there are different endings based on how much patience you earn, but since you can go back to previous rooms it's really easy to get lost of patience, it just takes, well, patience. The visuals and aesthetic were great too, would have liked a backing track  or ambient noise during gameplay.

Developer

The original idea was to have an abstract dog training simulation. When training a dog, sometimes you have to go back to basics and if you do, the dog will be better trained in exchange of your patience. That's why I don't penalize "rewinds" or going back a level :)

Regarding the music and sounds, that is something I need to work on as I feel they are my weakest points...

Thank you for playing!

I understand, sounds are my weak point as well, good sound designers are honestly underrated in game jams. Great job again!

I like that you went with a very simplistic, yet polished art style!

Great mechanics.  It's funny that when I choose "No", it tells me that this is not the right choice. Good job :D

Developer(+1)

I couldn't let you stop playing, now could I? :)

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I thought this was a really unique game because of the narrator AI aspect, really loved the Asimov reference too. It was genuinely fun to play and very straightforward and I was interested to find out my  outcome. Loved the music too!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked the reference! And the music!

Thank you for the kind words, and thank you for playing!
