In what way does your game fit the theme?
You play as a cassette tape and you leave a tape trail as you move. You can rewind the tape which moves you back to where you were previously, while destroying enemies in your path. Plus the graphics and sound effects help rewind you back to the 80's.

Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all the code myself and made most assets from scratch. I did not make the music, fonts or most of the sound effects, but they are all licensed for commercial use. All the attributions are on the game's page. Every other asset was made by me.

Truly amazing game. Theme, design, implementation, sound effects, amazing in every way! Will probably be playing this one even after the game jam is done.

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing! I appreciate the kind comment! Stay tuned for post Jam content/fixes.

Definitely will do! Would you mind having a look at our game. Some friends and I in our first game jam! :D

Sure yeah!

Love the A E S T H E T I C.

Nice gameplay too, very fun to make a little tape nest and rewind when being swarmed. But is it just me or does the enemy bullets not collide with the player?

Some more feedback for hits would be nice for sure, and making the weapons feel more punchy would definitely be on my list of polish.

Good entry, definitely better than most.

Please give me a review as well if you would be so kind. Kind regards,

Developer

Thanks so much for the review! Yeah I've been beating myself up since I first found out it was happening. Of course a simple last minute change breaks a key gameplay element : (

I will totally check out your game!

Beatiful game and amazing aesthetic left me wanting more :D My only issues is when rewinding the rewind effect sound is too loud.Other than that great work :)

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I agree, had I had more time an audio setting would have been included. Will add to the list of post jam additions!

Just have a very good time playing your game ! The retro feeling (and the music) were amazing !

The only thing I can say for criticism is that I would make the (awesome) background music reverse when rewinding, such as setting the pitch to -1 for example, replacing the rewinding sound effect you've included, this would be perfect !

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comment! While rewinding the music would be awesome, I figured with how frequent the rewind is used, the same parts of the music would be played over and over again. This also creates problems because enemy spawning is based on the music loudness.  So I instead made it the rewind sound to provide a brief relief from enemy spawning while adding audio feedback. Thanks for playing!

The enemy spawns based on the music loudness? I didn't realize that. That's so cool!

I had to wear neon shutter shades to play this game. past that it looks sounds and plays amazing, along with having an A+ aesthetic. you did an amazing job putting all this together. The only real critique I have is the levels in the beginning didn't feel like I was making any progression.

Developer(+1)

Haha thanks for the comment and feedback! I agree, level balancing is a focus with post Jam updates.

Just so goddamn fun and the music is just incredible

Very cool and good looking game. Had a lot of fun playing it! the ability to rewind into the enemy adds some tactical depth to the combat.

P.S. Awesome music. Synthwave  always strikes my heart - I see synthwave I slap 5 stars for 'Audio' :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the lovely comment! Glad you liked the choice of music! It was fun picking it out.

I love me some vaporwave aesthetics

Superb game, this was awesome. on top of that I liked the last levels song a lot.

Developer

Thanks a bunch for playing! Yep the last level was meant to be crazy and exciting!

Submitted

Very well done.  I love the retro aesthetics and UI. I really only found myself "enjoying" the last level.  Though, I supposed it was meant to be as a progressive way.  Great job!

Developer

Thanks for the comment! Level tuning will be coming right after the Jam ends!

Wow.. just wow. We only had 7 days and you managed to produce this. The art is perfect and fits the setting. Your ui animations are glorious, I really like the pause menu when the cassette pops up.

Developer

Thanks so much! Really glad you like the game!

Loved the art and music! Overall, a very enjoyable game!

Excellent Game, love the mechanichs And very polished

one minor bug i noticed is that when you go behind the highscore UI it doesnt become semi trasparent

Developer

Thanks for playing! I was going to add that but I felt the numbers were not large enough to be blocking. Will look into it post jam!

This game is great! I love the overall style (art and audio), and the different stages.  A couple of things I would change:
-The red bullets from the yellow boxes don't do any damage.
-Maybe you should add more bullet hell to the game, because it seems pretty easy to me. The player also has too much health. But I mean, better easy than too hard :)

Developer

Thanks a bunch for the feedback! I will double check to see if the projectiles deal damage, I'm fairly certain they do. And yeah as you said, I tried to make the first few levels easier to give time for mechanic learning and because the levels can get long. You also get a bonus for completing a level with more health : )

Submitted

Oh, you can actually complete levels? I didn't know that, that's interesting. I though that they were endless!
Well then I have motivation to beat them, will play them right now again.

Submitted

I really think you're gonna win the jam! Everything's so polished hard to imagine this was made in one week!

Developer(+1)

Wow you are too kind! Thanks!

Submitted

You're welcome :)

Also I already posted on your discussions feed, but I'd appreciate if you give my game a try, if you have the time. Thanks!

This game was really cool! Felt incredibly satisfying and really utilizes the rewind ability. One thing that could be improved is having special abilities for fire power, but felt incredibly flushed out especially considering the week you had!
