Did you write most of the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
The only thing not made from scratch was fonts and audio.

Very clean! My only concern is that there's no easy way to learn how to play. I had trouble in my few games because it's only after a while that I figured out I could shoot stuff.

The game looks and sounds good, and even if it's simple, the fun is there, and that's what's important. Well done!

Developer

The controls are listed in the itch.io game page but that is not shown in the game jam page which is sad :/ that is the only reason we thought we could get away with it. But thanks for the feedback!

What highscore did you get? and what was your most hated enemy?

Submitted(+1)

I got around 22k I believe. Unexpectedly, the basic purple ones ended up being my bane, even later in the game, because there's so many of them that come from all sides, and because they camouflauge themselves pretty well lol. The red ones were the easiest enemies because they didn't feel too threatening, and they weren't rewarding enough to chase. :)

Developer

Nice, that score is above average I can tell you that!

A really well polished game! I liked how you used the concept of rewind in this bullet-hell. Also, i never saw a bullet-hell in a spherical map, this was pretty cool and a game changing! The visuals are really great, and gameplay is pretty solid, simple, and fast! :D

Great job, it has potential to turn into a big game! :)

That Super StarDust vibe is big in this one. Wish I could make this :D. Though the rewind option didn't really do a whole lot, the implementation was cool.

Great game! I tried it with my ps4 controller but when I went on the x-axis it started to go slower and when I shot the ship stopped. Pretty weird but I guess it's more made for windows at this point in time :)

Developer

Hmmm, thats really odd. We had one of our friends play the game with a ps4 controller without problems. Thanks for the feedback.

Great game, had a lot of fun playing it.

A bit sad that the rewind doesn't seem to do much (though beint a way to save yourself is still nice).

But other than that, really nice game.
Loved the spherical level and the fact that you see the shots following the curve.

This is great! It feels like a finished game, nice pacing and polish. Personally though, I didn't find much use for the rewind mechanic, even if it in itself is really cool and well made. But maybe that's why my score sucks haha.

This is such a cool game!!

Good

  • The neon graphics are great and the music goes very well with the theme of the game (did you guys write the music? It fits very well)
  • The gameplay is fun with a variety of enemies! I like how you can see your bullets go around the planet and it's really cool that you've managed to use spherical geometry as it makes the game unique
  • It's satisfying to kill enemies because of the particles and sound effects
  • The path the player leaves also adds to the cool look of the game.

Could be improved

  • I did not realise that I could rewind until my 3rd or 4th round. Maybe the first time someone plays you should point out the bar on the left and get players to try it out. The bar itself was also quite small, it would be good to make it more visible to players and make it really obvious to players when it recharges so they know they can use it again.
  • Even after figuring out the rewind, I didn't really use it. To be honest though I only got a high score of 5.12K so I am pretty bad at this and maybe if I had used the rewind I would be better haha. I just rarely had the time to use it before I died.

Also an online leaderboard would be great!

Overall I really liked playing, 5 stars! :D

I had a lot of fun playing your game. It´s that well polished! The music fits, the sounds fit and the artstyle is great. Especially the sound when enemies spawn is very useful. There are two small things that I would change.

  1. I would make the purple enemies in a different colour since they are sometimes very hard to see.
  2. I would give them less HP since they don´t give a lot of points which means that it should be the easiest enemy.

Maybe it´s intended but that´s what I think.

Got one Highscore of you :D (I know I´m bad at games like yours :) ).
Pictures are not allowed but:

3,397 Me
3,343 Thea

I think you would deserve more ratings. Good Job!

I´ve submitted a local multiplayer game: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-4/rate/722755. I would be happy to get your feedback on it. (I´ve also posted a reply to Kiwiov´s topic.)

Nice polished game, I had trouble figuring out how to rewind, but got it eventually. cool graphics with simple shapes.

HOW DOES YOUR GAME ONLY HAVE 10 RATINGS?

It is so good. It feels polished. I love the Neon theme,

Gives me nostalgic arcade feelings when playing this. Great game!

Fun arcade, I got highscore of 4k! Some comments:

  • Nice implementation of the planet-like movement area
  • Nice VFX & tron-like effects, but I think it can get slightly too bright when there are many things on screen
  • Nice controls & gameplay for a shooter
  • I find the rewind mechanic pretty basic. It does have the ability to help the player get out of a situation where they are surrounded - quite a straightforward mechanic

Great arcade game!  I love the glowing effects and all the sounds, they give a whole lot of impact to shooting enemies. I think the game works pretty well even without the rewind mechanic, I sometimes forgot to use it. Well done! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! We tried to keep it simple and satisfying. What was your highscore?

Submitted

I wasn't that good.xD

I was able to pass the first score and get to 5000 something but I was never able to get a better score ^^'

Good game, Its really fun, the art style is well done and the difficulty scales nicely.

Enjoyed it a lot :D

Developer

Thanks a lot for the kind words :)

Nice and fun game. Reminds me of 'Geometry Wars 3'. It would be great to add some power-ups)

Developer(+2)

Thanks :-)
We were planning on doing power-ups but we didn't have enough time, we are planning on adding it later though.

Love your game! You guys really went IN on the post processing effects and it looks awesome. I love the glow effect! Plus it's also quite fun!

Well made, very fun. I wish the rewind was automatically triggered if charged when you die though, I found it was a bit hard to use, and usually more risky than just playing it like a standard bullet hell. Definitely enjoyed myself though

Developer

Happy to hear it :)

You have to believe me if I say I wanted to do my game in a spherical world but I cut it off because it was over my head in the time I had. I'm going to play now.

Edited:

It reminds me of SuperStardust, a game I love, with the rewind thing. I would want some power-ups (may be they are, but I haven't seen them😅), or that the rewind makes some other effect. Congrats on submitting!!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! We had some thoughts on adding power ups but didn't because of time constraints. The math needed to make the spherical world work was a real headache but Im really happy that we went for it. Thanks for trying the game. What was your highscore?

Submitted(+1)

3000 🤣

it was a really cool game and i love the grid - like controls this game deserves more ratings
