Damn, this actually hurt, especially the “special thanks” line.

I need to see Operation Nutcracker to completion; one day…

I thought this was lovely - I’m glad to see more interactive fiction. You might like our game too; we also marked it as “visual novel” (with light gameplay elements) and ended up with a “slice-of-life” kind of story :)

I really like that this had a personal touch to it (at least felt like it).

The story was simple and short—I think that worked really well.

You did a great job with the audio. In particular, the background music was used really well towards the end of the game during that final bit of dialogue.

Dialogue was simple and to the point—I liked that. I was still able to connect with the characters quickly.

I see a lot being discussed about gameplay. My opinion is that the game was exactly ‘as advertised’ and I enjoyed that. However, I would like it if the experience was even more streamlined and focussed on the dialogue. For example, I was not as interested in walking around the store and trying to interact with the various elements in the shop. I was more interested in the dialogue with the people and Deans thoughts as he talked to them. More focus branching dialogue/choice and less walking around/interacting would be my preference for this game.

Great work!

TBH I would say don't listen to the people asking for gameplay. You said it was an interactive story and boy did you deliver. That hit me a little harder than I was expecting it to, and your comedic timing is actually pretty good. Keep making more like this, it's really good!

The art and animations looks sooo good!! The story is really relatable, I'm a reader myself so I sometimes just pressed E a lot not reading much but still looked nice!

Wonderful presentation and theme! I'm a little confused about all these comments saying it's "not a real game," when interactive story / visual novel type games have existed forever. I was incredibly invested in what Dean was going through, but it felt like the game ended at what should have been the very beginning of his journey. It felt inconclusive to the point where I actually thought I had gotten the "bad ending" due to my dialogue choices. I would love to see a longer version of this game where Dean struggles to make himself the person he was hoping to be, and maybe develops his relationship with the woman who kept entering the store. This is a truly fantastic story waiting to be told, so I really hope it continues development after the game jam.

If you're interested, my game is another "interactive story," though I doubt it will be as emotionally resonant as yours was to me.

Thanks! Will do!

I was trying to keep my scope on story very small so I would be able to finish the game. In the future I may expand more upon it. So perhaps this is a prologue of sorts :).

Graphics and audio are great, but I don't quite understand what's the point of the game?

Developer

Just a short story.

Game was epic.

You implement rewind theme through story.
If you want you can play my game:

I get that you called it "An Interactive story" but there is no game-play in the first minute, if i want to play a game, i won't play this, there is basically no game-play, if i want to read a story, books are everywhere, just saying this so maybe you could make this more "interactive".

Developer

Fair enough. In the future I would implement more game play into this type of game for sure. This was my first time doing a dialogue system and more RPG-type UI so now that I know that I could probably raise the scope of something similar in the future.

The sprites/animations are so good! A really interesting take on the theme.

I was waiting for something more gameplay wise. I like the humour here and it could easily be expanded into something bigger. Sounds and graphics were top notch.

Although not much of a "game" per se (except the meta-game of guessing the movies through vague hints was fun and I need more of it), still a very enjoyable experience.

Very commendable entry, for sure. Great job!

I feel bad for Dean. I like the goofy walking animation and the interactive title screen.

I love the art. Gameplay was great and an all around solid entry
