Awesome art style! Also really nice game, simple but really fun! I would suggest adding instructions, in game, also option menu was very unique! Well done!
This is really fun, and very well made. I like your MS-DOS style graphical style, your sound effects are great, and the digging mechanic is really fun. My biggest complaint goes to the health system, where the player dies very quickly. It feels like the player needs more starting health, or the AI needs to be a little less aggressive near the start of the game.
cartoony games always mean great fun and ridiculous gameplay. i enjoyed this. good job
Great job on your game. Liked the art style and the music. Its really small though and hard to see things.
Very nice gameplay and aesthetics! Reminded me of some old DOS games as well as Spelunky.
Criticisms/Suggestions:
Could use a little tutorial, the game requires some fast reactions so there's not much time to learn how to use bombs and such.
It's also not immediately clear you can interact with the shopkeeper (or that he is a shopkeeper). First time I encountered him I thought it was a checkpoint.
Ability to skip the starting animations would be appreciated, they're nice the first time, but not after you've had to restart the game several times.
The game over sound effect was really loud compared to other audio, at least on my speakers. Also, the game over lasts longer than it has to - it'd probably be better to let player push a button to pass it than put it on a timer.
Minor point: Not sure why you've added the tag "roguelite" since there doesn't seem to be any permanent upgrades. From what I could see, it's a full-on "roguelike".
Nice game design and procedural generation works well. I enjoyed playing it. This games gives a lot for 5mb. :D Well done!
Hey, loved your game, loved your <art , music , game design > a bit of polish and your game will be pretty cool!
All the best and Good luck! Do check out our game we need the feedback! - https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-3/rate/574293
This game is really well polished and you get a nice art style! lovely game
graphics and sounds are amazing! It does require some polishing as axe sometimes aim down instead of where I want it to hit. making it really hard to kill the enemies on sides.
The UI and animations and everything was great! well done ^^
I’m working on a refined version that is going to release on steam,, it will have a tutorial in it x)
Thanks for the feedback, I was thinking of setting lifes to 3 and now that I’m reading this, I will.
Looks like game maker has a very little overhead, then the game has less than 50 sprites in it, and rooms are generated from strings (ascii art).
Yoyo games did a splendid job with their engine :))
Wow, this is a pretty rad game. Top-class for me.
Love it. It's retro design makes me feel this pretty much showcase worthy for this game jam.
I really underestimated this game before playing! i didn't expect a lot of content! really well done, the art is amazing and it's well designed. if only the screen transition was much faster and there is more lifes when getting hit by enemies, i'm still wondering how this game is only 5mb lol. i love it, nice job :)
Low res graphics and audio, and the amazing small overhead of game maker made it possible to compress everything in 5mb!
Also, chunks are generated by a set of strings ( ascii art ), so there are 7 scenes only!
Thanks a lot, I'm glad you liked it! I've addressed the issue of the screen transiction in the build that I'm going to release on Steam ( sadly not available for the jam )
